Company announcement, what could it be?

bluebag27 · 30/04/2024 14:59

In your experiences, when you have been told there is a company announcement, what has it turned out to be?

I'm currently off work, but have been told there is an announcement tomorrow and that I must attend unless it's absolutely impossible that I can't.

My first thought is redundancies. What else could it be?

New CEO, a restructure, a merger?

ItsMintUpNorth · 30/04/2024 15:01

Had the same in December and it was that we were merging with a larger firm.

LIZS · 30/04/2024 15:02

Restructure, takeover, financial announcement?

YouveGotAFastCar · 30/04/2024 15:02

I had this a few months ago. It was a change in company owner - the investor changed.

Clearinguptheclutter · 30/04/2024 15:02

we've had this twice. Once was redundancies, the other was company being sold (which turned out to be a good thing given the circumstances at the time).
CEO moving on?

SublimeLemonHead · 30/04/2024 15:02

Always redundancies ime. Can't recall such a meeting ever occurring for anything else.

Sealover123 · 30/04/2024 15:02

Redundancies or merger were the first things that came to mind

JiggeryWokery · 30/04/2024 15:04

Had similar last month. Turns out the owner of the (small) business has decided to shut up shop and take early retirement. I'm 'between jobs' now!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 30/04/2024 15:06

We have one every quarter, we're kept up to date of our financial position, work we've won, any change to higher management etc.

toomuchfaff · 30/04/2024 15:06

Takeover. merger, restructure, redundancy.

Whether you're impacted or not depends on how they are communicating with you. If you're in a 121 or small group then you're impacted - get your cv up to date.

if this is an all hands call with 100s on it, company wide statement, then you're not - or this is the "we are making changes" call that comes before the "you're at risk" call.

BobbyBiscuits · 30/04/2024 15:07

It does not necessarily mean redundancies, unless you've seen that the company has been failing in the last year? Even then it could a number of things.
Ceo, senior management change, office move, takeover of another firm or vice versa, it could be that everyone's getting a big bonus!
Just don't worry until you've heard what they've got to say. And raise any questions in the meeting if it's unclear how it might impact you and others in your position/role.

exomoon · 30/04/2024 15:09

It's unlikely to be anything worrying or interesting.

At worst a takeover / redundancies.

At best, a new CEO.

frankentall · 30/04/2024 15:11

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

RachelGreensFlair · 30/04/2024 15:12

New CEO
Pension provider mass update
Redundancies
Merger
Any important news relating to stock prices (had one recently about some bad press that was leading to a big decline in stock price and therefore impacted our shave save scheme)
Large scale organisational restructure

BigBadBarri · 30/04/2024 15:15

Yes, I’d agree with others - merger, takeover etc

Ginkypig · 30/04/2024 15:15

Happened recently. It turned out to be change from weekly to monthly wages.

bluebag27 · 30/04/2024 22:51

We have been told company wide meeting then various smaller meetings throughout the day afterwards.. if it was a merger/takeover surely there would be no further meetings after it?

OP posts:
Rainbowshit · 30/04/2024 23:06

Its redundancies. Sorry.

GenerousGardener · 30/04/2024 23:10

Yup. Redundancies. It’s happened to
me two times now. Sorry.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/04/2024 23:41

Redundancy.
CEO been arrested.

The smaller meetings after definitely feels like redundancy, some will be at risk and others won't.

Sorry OP, hope you're OK

EsmeT · 01/05/2024 02:04

This happened to me a few years ago, ended up being made redundant

coxesorangepippin · 01/05/2024 02:06

What's the industry?

loudbatperson · 01/05/2024 02:13

Without the smaller meetings happening later that day I would have said not to worry and it's likely a merger, the company sold/purchased or major change in upmost leadership.

However the follow up meetings, and then happening the same day, does suggest redundancies to me.

Hopefully you won't be impacted, or if you are then they will offer a good settlement package.

Thevelvelletes · 01/05/2024 02:15

If it's oil and gas ,it's redundancies.
