Company announcement, what could it be?

In your experiences, when you have been told there is a company announcement, what has it turned out to be?

I'm currently off work, but have been told there is an announcement tomorrow and that I must attend unless it's absolutely impossible that I can't.

My first thought is redundancies. What else could it be?

Relocation.

Ridiculous24 · 01/05/2024 04:00

Good luck.

Smidge001 · 01/05/2024 04:46

I'd have originally plumped for takeover/change in CEO, but the additional smaller meetings do suggest redundancies.

We have been told company wide meeting then various smaller meetings throughout the day afterwards.. if it was a merger/takeover surely there would be no further meetings after it?

This is almost guaranteed to be redundancies.

The first meeting will be to say that a mass reduction in headcount is required due to x.

The second meeting will be to advise individuals how they are personally affected by the announcement m.

Good luck OP, I hope it goes well for you. If not, embrace it as an opportunity to do new things.

judgementfail · 01/05/2024 05:24

Almost certainly redundancies now you are saying there are additional focused meetings.
First to tell everyone it's happening.
Focused ones to talk about which roles will be going.

Big meeting = There is going to be a restructure

Little meetings = you are either at risk or not affected.

Jobsharenightmare · 01/05/2024 05:48

Another idea. If you've already had redundancies then it could be the Company is in financial difficulty and are unable to pay full salaries. I've had this where they were desperately trying to secure additional investment until the wire then we were paid 70% of our salaries whilst the administrators came in to advise.

Topee · 01/05/2024 05:48

It does sound as though it may be redundancies, hopefully it’s not. Are you off work because of holiday or sickness or are you on maternity leave?

Sux2buthen · 01/05/2024 06:04

We had this in November. It was redundancies; I am now approximately a week and a half away from finding out if it's going to be me.
Easily one of the worst times of my life.
Good luck OP, hope it's not that

The thing that pisses me off with this scenario is consultation meetings are bollocks because who's going has been decided months ago.all that point scoring is corrupt, management can engineer any outcome they want.

Always redundancies ime. Can't recall such a meeting ever occurring for anything else.

Just to provide a counter view, when it happened to me in a previous job it was that the business was being sold to a bigger business in the same line or work, not a single redundancy and a couple of people actually got promotions out of it

It might not be bad news for you OP it certainly isn't always,

chaticat · 01/05/2024 06:27

Redundancies. Potentially lots if there's lots of smaller groups

Freakinfraser · 01/05/2024 06:29

I’m afraid it’s redundancies op. Could also be with a take over or merger as root cause.

CharnwoodFire · 01/05/2024 06:35

Everyone is getting a £mill bonus and a three weeks hol?? 🤞

Sux2buthen · 01/05/2024 06:56

@Thevelvelletes
I'm just praying the outcome they want is for me to stay at this point

NonPlayerCharacter · 01/05/2024 06:58

In my experience, either the CEO leaving under a cloud or redundancies.

SD1978 · 01/05/2024 06:59

Redundancies if they are making an announcement and then break away groups I would have thought.

Totally get that , I've been through three lots of redundancies with the same firm and it was third time unlucky.
Hope you make it and I understand it's like being put through an emotional wringer.

Mapletreelane · 01/05/2024 07:06

Could be a team / teams being outsourced ( which can be very positive long term for people being outsourced) .

VestibuleVirgin · 01/05/2024 07:10

The whole company is relocating to the moon and WFH will no longer be allowed.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 01/05/2024 07:11

Restructure. Usually involving redundancies.

mitogoshi · 01/05/2024 07:23

Restructuring most likely, unfortunately that is likely to include redundancies

Wigtopia · 01/05/2024 07:30

Merger, briefing on a scandal that is about to be made public, restructuring, CEO resigning.

always horrible to receive one of these notifications without more info

bluebag27 · 01/05/2024 07:31

I am on mat leave, does redundancy affect me any differently?

No. You are treated the same as everyone else/
