To ask for foods which are genuinely delicious?

I’ve just tried blue cheese and honey on toast and it’s so delicious it’s genuinely taken me aback. I had the same the first time I ever tried guacamole.

What foods have done the same for you. Not things that are tasty and you enjoy, but that you’ve tried for the first time and genuinely got a shock at how delicious they are?

Another one for Epoisse, I want all of you to try it. I first bought it about 4 years ago, convinced by the woman in the deli, and now always buy when people are coming over. It’s stinks to high heaven and not for the low on Tupperware , but once you actually taste it, you’re addicted. Paired with pickles, or fruit, crackers and like most things improved with a drizzle of honey. It’s so creamy and mild, but rich and savoury, such a treat. Like a Camembert on steroids. One Christmas my friend brought brandy round to have with it (it’s washed in brandy) and it was a perfect accompaniment.

Behl, especially Dishoom Behl.

amazing, like 1000 tastebuds have been awakened.

Dartmoorcheffy · 28/04/2024 22:58

Another simple but delicious, proper chips, deep fried, on thickly buttered Warburton toastie bread, withdalt and vinegar.

Epoisse cheese. Absolutely stinks to high heaven, keep in in the fridge in a sealed bag inside a sealed tupperware box. It tastes nothing like it smells, very creamy and delicious on crusty french bread.

It doesn't smell half as bad as munster, but I agree re the storage thing. Bag, box, bigger box.

It's delicious, and apparently illegal to carry on public transport in France !

But take your eye off it and it's walked half way across your plate before you've sliced the baguette.

I'm loving this thread but it's making me soooo bloody hungry

One of my favourite sandwiches is Brie, apricot jam and crispy bacon on white bread, heated up so Brie starts to melt. A work colleague introduced it to me and wow it was soooo good. Again that salty/sweet combo!
Cream cheese, bacon and apricot jam on brioche is also yum.

LauderSyme · 28/04/2024 23:07

Someone's post about steak reminded me of a Chateaubriand I once had at a steak restaurant. I am not a big fan of red meat but oh my goodness this was melt in the mouth. I had no idea beef could taste so good.

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 28/04/2024 23:08

A stinky ripe Brie on a warm toasted baguette washed down with a nice glass of red.

Hard goats cheese on crackers with sliced tomatoes, basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil.

Gorgonzola on a crumpet.

Cheese, basically.

I remember the first time I ate pizza, I was about 9 from ireland visiting cousins in London. My mother was at home everyone else was out and she ordered I think 4 star pizza. It was the most amazing thing I had ever tasted. No where did pizza in my area it was such a novelty getting it delivered. I have yet to experience anything like the taste. Every time we get pizza now I open the box with anticipation thinking it's going to taste like my 1990s pizza and it never does

I also as an adult used to go to this very posh french restaurant (now closed) and they used to do a basil icecream it was mindblowing. I'm afraid to try make it in case the memory is ruined for me.

Noseybookworm · 28/04/2024 23:12

When I was 15 I went to Menorca and had grilled sardines with fresh lemon squeezed over and I thought it was the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted! It's pretty much all I ate for two weeks 😂

rainbowbee · 28/04/2024 23:13

Salted peanuts in a jar of honey.

ODFOx · 28/04/2024 23:24

A warm (as in ambient temp on a warm day, not heated up) ripe peach or vine ripened tomato.
A square of dark chocolate melting on your tongue.
The crispy skin off a roast chicken.
Really fresh mussels steamed in white wine and garlic.
Home made salty butter on just out of the oven wholemeal bread.
Freshly squeezed orange juice diluted 50/50 with soda water.
A cold Tanqueray gin with fever tree light tonic and cucumber; Plastic ice cubes or freezer stones so it doesn't get too diluted.

ComeOnThenFanny · 28/04/2024 23:30

My late Nana uses to make brown bread ice cream - I have no idea what she did to make it, but it was out of this world. Just creamy, sweet breadcrumby deliciousness.

Yiayoula · 28/04/2024 23:31

Yoghurt chat bombs from Mowgli ❤️- anything from their menu really , but these are my absolute favourite.

Caffè in forchetta, Italian dessert of thick coffee custard topped with whipped cream .

Delphiniumandlupins · 29/04/2024 01:05

Ayrshire potatoes, freshly dug, boiled and served with butter. Never had new potatoes as good. I didn't eat them for over 30 years and thought the memory was probably embellished through time but they're still as fabulous today.

pelotonaddiction · 29/04/2024 01:41

British strawberries
I refuse to eat them unless they're British and in season
Had my first one today and I forgot just how amazing they are. Now I'll binge eat them until the very last punnet!

MyFirstLittlePony · 29/04/2024 07:32

The first time I had a real Caesar salad

also fennel salad with blood orange and feta

in real-life good salads are rare…

DilemmaDelilah · 29/04/2024 07:45

Still on the cheese and honey theme... I love a really tasty cheddar with honey. Delicious!

PeterGabrielsunderpants · 29/04/2024 10:15

Homemade Polish pierogi - a kind of filled pasta, topped with either breadcrumbs fried in butter, or onions fried until brown in butter. Fillings: mashed potato and cheese with browned onions mixed in, or finely chopped mushroom mixed with sauerkraut. Sweet option: filling made with fresh blackcurrants and honey, topped with breadcrumbs fried in butter.

Ooh reminds me the pizza I had in venice as a tween. I don't think I had even had pizza in an italian restaurant before so my experience was more pizza hut/goodfellas and omg the mozzarella they used in small blobs on the thin crispy base with the tastiest tomato sauce was mind blowing.
