Vans

The clothing label.
Not the vehicles.
DS wants Vans clothes.
All his mates wear Vans.
Apparently it's a really cool label.
DH says its a skateboard label and only skateboarders should wear Vans clothes, anyone else will look stupid.
DS is not, and never will be, a skateboarder.
I say you can wear Vans even if you're not a skateboarder.
Anyone with any inside info on this?
Which one of us is BU?

And I am 52...

AbbeFausseMaigre · 26/04/2024 21:47

DS is a skateboarder. For some reason he's not into branded stuff at all (he's only 12), but from what I've seen of his fellow skaters, Vans is maybe a bit too mainstream for actual skaters iyswim. Personally I really like Vans stuff and I am most definitely not a skater, so perhaps your DH has a point - I'm not convinced it is cool anymore. But if your DS likes it that's what matters! Try Vinted if you don't want to pay full whack.

I wear vans. I sometimes trip over my own feet, trust me I’m not skateboarding anywhere.

I DON'T MEAN THE SHOES!!!!!!!
Jeez, did any of you read the 3rd line down of my OP?!?
CLOTHES.
Please do not let one more person answer me with a comment about the shoes!

DH says Vans clothes haven't sold out, says he's checked and there's lots of their stuff for sale🤔

I think the prev poster means they sold out in the respect that they used to be for skaters and BMXers etc, that was their original target market but then they became mainstream. Not that they are physically out of stock.

i know lots of teenagers/young kids that wear Vans. I don’t think your DH is as with the kids as he thinks he is.

Hankunamatata · 26/04/2024 21:49

Let dc wear the cloths they want to wear. My teen wears everything north face. Dh rolls his eyes as he thinks it's outdoor clothing

DH says this has made his mind up.
He's not dressing teenage DS like a 52 year old woman.

I really don’t think you need to be as caught up on this as you are - there isn’t a huge difference between wearing the shoes and wearing the clothes. You are still wearing the brand.

NerrSnerr · 26/04/2024 21:50

Why is your husband trying to police what your child wears? If your husband doesn't like Vans clothes then he doesn't need to wear them does he?

Your son needs to find his own style, not his dad's.

NerrSnerr · 26/04/2024 21:51

Why is he trying to dress his teenage son? This is so odd.

AbbeFausseMaigre · 26/04/2024 21:52

Also - I am not an expert but from threads about teen fashion on S&B I understand that what is cool/current is very very dependant on where they live. Eg North Face can be very in or completely out. Your DS probably has a better feel for what's popular in his peer group than your DH.

Agree! And OP is weirdly angry in her replies.

I wear yoga pants and running trousers but don't do either. My dd wears Van shoes to school and fell off a skateboard the only time she tried one

Exactly what I was about to come and say!

oOiluvfriendsOo · 26/04/2024 21:54

My 19yr old non skateboarder wears Vans clothes.

Your hubby needs to back off and stop trying to control what your ds wears.....it's not like he's asking for a dress and heels.

GloriaBunniford · 26/04/2024 21:38

DH has read this thread and says if all these women are wearing Vans clothes then it's most definitely not a cool look for a teenage boy!

Wow. What a prince. Lucky you.

Vans shoes

thesugarbumfairy · 26/04/2024 21:57

Mine wear Vans. Neither of them have ever been near a skateboard. DS1 (17) lives in his vans hoodie and high tops. (He has incredibly wide feet and they were the only casual canvas type shoe we found)

That's not very PC is it.

I'm currently curled up in an oversized Vans hoodie, so comfortable. And on the sofa, not the concrete after falling off a board!

Is this for real. Why doesn’t he just stand up and say look im a right twat who won’t let my kid wear what he wants. Just own it instead if looking for stupid excuses.

thesugarbumfairy · 26/04/2024 22:03

Also, with vans i dont really distinguish between clothes and shoes. I realise they fit on different body parts 😂 but its like superdry or some other trendy brand i cant think of cos red wine friday night. The label itself encompasses both footwear and bodywear and accessories in equal parts.

I wear vans clothing all the time. Anyone can.

AliceMcK · 26/04/2024 22:05

Most boys at my DDs high school wear Vans, very popular brand for teen boys.
