Clothing in the gym

I have seen this going around - do you agree with him?

I think I do, I really don't understand the current trend of ridiculously small shorts shoved right into arse cracks and bandeau bras for working out.

I go to the gym 2/3 times a week and feel no need to dress like this.

Or, are they just 'dressing for themselves?'

Well as a female I feel uncomfortable about some of the very revealing clothes that are worn so I can quite understand a bloke feeling that way - I really don't want to see your bum crack

I mean it's not just whatever you are comfortable in or like best is it? There is a fashion element

We have laws / norms against nudity in public places but the latest fashions are pushing the boundaries of those laws and I don't think it's really for the benefit of women

It's the men who don't avert thier gaze that you should be wary of

NonPlayerCharacter · 26/04/2024 16:41

Having said that, I don't particularly enjoy seeing....

Doesn't matter. You liking it isn't a prerequisite for someone else's clothing choices (and if you can't bear sweat on the equipment, the clothing should be the least of your worries in a gym. Save it for people who don't wipe it down afterwards.).

I've seen people in skimpy clothing in the gym but I've never seen anyone who "may as well be naked", just as I've never seen anyone placing their arse crack into anyone's face and all the other wild sexual fantasies we've had on here from people who are above all that.

If someone is dressed or acting in a way that is so obscene they shouldn't be in public, tell the staff; if it's really that explicit and offensive then I'm sure they'll agree to eject them. If you just don't find their clothing pleasing, then look at the screen and get over it.

midgetastic · 26/04/2024 16:44

So nudity ? Anywhere and everywhere is that also ok? Guess so?

We're not talking about nudity everywhere and anywhere, we are talking about gym clothing that you don't like. If you have to start criticising something completely different, that's pretty much an admission that you've no case against this.

GreyBlackLove · 26/04/2024 16:51

Admittedly I haven't read every post but on my skim read I haven't seen any proposal for nudist gyms. I don't think I'd be relying on my local's thin paper towel and anti-bac if that were the case...

I'd certainly be far more concerned about wiping down the equipment if those took off.

I am more bothered by all the women in brightly coloured patterned leggings they are an intimidating bunch.

as far as the porn claim goes that is on the looker not the wearer. I have been naked in saunas with other people and there is nothing sexual at all.

I often wear bright patterned leggings to the gym. I don't do it to be intimidating; I just like bright colour and prints. Why does that intimidate you?

What a disgusting pervert. Men are such vile creatures.

I'm not sure a heterosexual man finding females attractive is the definition of perversion

Billyhargrovesmullet · 26/04/2024 09:18

Wow no if he can’t control himself he needs another hobby

Oh stop it. Its biology. God forbid we decide biology is banned. If women walk around half naked, men are going to notice. Decent men will do their darndest to not look but that ends up making the whole experience stressful. And I'm a woman. Just not a man hating one.

Honestly sometimes it's just easier to work out in shorts and a small top. Less restriction, not so warm. A lot of men wear shorts and vest tops basically hanging off them to work out. They show a load of skin and surprise surprise women manage to control themselves.

It's the scrunch shorts designed to specifically scrunch up into your arse crack. Ain't no one telling me that's for comfort or for any reason other than for others gaze. After all unless you are a contortionist you can't see inside your own arse crack.

LuckySantangelo35 · 26/04/2024 17:03

I have been going to the gym for years and I can honestly say no one has ever put their bum in my face

Allfur · 26/04/2024 17:04

LaurieFairyCake · 26/04/2024 12:10

I don't have any weird anal porn issues Hmm

These are the leggings I mean - you'd have to be living on Mars to not know what I mean

Would you want your 14 year old wearing them

Bringbackspring · 26/04/2024 17:04

I assume this man copes perfectly fine controlling himself on the beach surrounded by bikini clad women? Or should we all we all be wearing big frocks on the beach too so as not to be too 'sexual'?

I think the way women use the gym has changed a lot in the past 10 years. When I went to the gym 15-20 years ago, I would rarely, if ever, see women lifting free weights or doing strength training. It was all cardio equipment for women and men did the weight lifting. But in recent times women have gotten really into strength training (which is great!) and are probably spending way more time in what used to be considered the 'men's' area of the gym. I think men are probably feeling a bit threatened by not having their own special man cave part of the gym anymore and so have decided to complain that women's clothing is inappropriate, because they can't say out loud they don't want women in the weights section at all.

@burnttoad

ooh poor menz , getting so stressed out in the gym.
You’re right, let’s make baggy t shirts mandatory for all who enter the gyms

burnttoad · 26/04/2024 17:05

LaurieFairyCake · 26/04/2024 09:38

Obviously I agree women shouldn't be expected to cover up, men should work on controlling themselves

Apart from one thing - the scrunched bum leggings scrunch around the anus and separate the butt cheeks into a giant peach with the anus highlighted

I'm a woman who is straight and doesn't do anal and I still can't help noticing/thinking of horrible anal porn when I see this Hmm

There has to be a middle ground where we're more respectful to everyone. We wouldn't work out in stockings/suspenders and a basque so why are we wearing anal porn clothes 🤷‍♀️

The perfect answer to this is women should wear whatever they like and men should LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE

But when I was having the clothing conversations with my teenage girls years ago I told them they could wear what they like but I encouraged them to think about how they kept themselves safe and how they could cope with the impact of leering white van drivers if they wore butt cheek hot pants

So women should be able to wear what they want..... except for things YOU don't like or arse crack encroaching scrunch bum shorts.

It's truly a miracle any of them ever survive a trip to the swimming baths, or the beach...
The act of not staring a woman's bum is a Stressful experience. The charmed life of a man.
Lord.

I've seen some farking stupid things described as man hating on here, but expecting men to keep themselves in check when a woman is wearing tight clothing is... actually, completely par for the course. File it away under having dating preferences and contradicting a man even when he states that he's a man so you didn't have the excuse of thinking you were disagreeing with a woman. Ho hum. Happy Friday to all. May nobody place their rectum in your face at the gym. That's probably man hating too.

Trulyme · 26/04/2024 17:27

I don’t like the thought of telling women what they should and shouldn’t wear but u do think gyms need to start bringing in a dress code.

Its a trend to wear very skimpy shorts with no underwear to show off their vulva and I just think it’s too much.

If a man was wearing something so skin tight with no underwear that I could see every inch of him (also a trend on the internet) then I too would feel uncomfortable.

Namechange666 · 26/04/2024 17:29

Tbh, I have more issues with the dicks that film themselves in gyms.

I wish filming was banned in gyms.

For one, I don't want to accidentally get in one and two, I am overweight and I've seen online sometimes people film fat people to take the piss. This always is at the back of my mind.

You want to film yourself, do it at home. No one filmed themselves in the gym 10 years ago. I don't care about that checking if your technique is right. You can see that in the mirror.

Back on topic, I feel like women should be able to wear what they want of course.

However, I do notice them (the scrunch shorts) and I'm a straight woman. I don't think anyone can expect not to be looked at. You can expect not to spoken to or touched but people will look if it's enhancing certain areas, I think it's natural to look. Same if a guy walked in with budgie smugglers. I would definitely notice a guy wearing that but I'd also look away because I'd be embarrassed. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lagoony · 26/04/2024 17:37

Ooooh it sounds like he'd be happier in a place like the middle east, where women are 100% blamed for the problems of men.

Sapiens · 26/04/2024 17:39

LlynTegid · 26/04/2024 15:12

Male possible behaviour is no argument for objecting to skimpy clothing. I object to the poor quality and choice of clothing for women to exercise in.

What are you on about. Tonnes of options!

I'm baffled some people are spending so much gym time watching other people - I hardly notice other people in reality - I'm too busy actually working out and checking my form etc.

If you don't have decent rest periods between sets, you're not working hard enough

But rest periods are taking in water, collecting new weights, sitting taking a breath - not scouting the gym to find people to disapprove of

And woman must be mindful that during these breaks during an intense workout, we should not distract this man, who loves his wife very much, by wearing a sports bra.

seriously.
