Clothing in the gym

I have seen this going around - do you agree with him?

I think I do, I really don't understand the current trend of ridiculously small shorts shoved right into arse cracks and bandeau bras for working out.

I go to the gym 2/3 times a week and feel no need to dress like this.

Or, are they just 'dressing for themselves?'

I can see both sides. I follow Joey Swoll on social media and some of the things he posts are pretty bad. Lots of influencers and women who make content for only fans are in the gym acting like it's a strip club. He equally calls out men who are half naked and making content too. There's a woman rubbing herself on a machine on one video and two women groping a man's arse when he's working out so maybe it's not just men who can't control themselves.

I see men perving and women filming content for only fans in my gym, both are as bad as each other and luckily my gym bans people who do both. You should be able to wear whatever you want as a woman but we also have to recognise that there are some women purposely going out of their way to shock people for the views and reactions.

MonsteraMama · 26/04/2024 11:21

This is a teeny skip away from "she was asking for it" mentality.

My gym is hot and I run hot. My shorts and sports bra are not a sexual invitation. If men feel they can't help but letch that's their problem, my arse existing is not inherently sexual, not my fault they think it is.

I'm quite capable of observing the extremely fit, attractive men in my gym in no shirt and lycra shorts that allow me to see the outline of their cock without getting the fanny wobbles, not my problem if men can't do the same.

minou123 · 26/04/2024 11:37

@KreedKafer
What men should NOT be allowed to do is to tell me that I have to modify my clothing to avoid distracting/tempting/bothering them.

Hell yes, KreedKafer 👏
Exactly what I was going to say.

Essentially what this man (and the Op) is saying is:
"I deem this clothing unacceptable and I don't like my thoughts, when I see women wearing these clothes.
Instead of dealing with my own problem, I demand women change what they are wearing"

Fuck that

Sapiens · 26/04/2024 11:52

MightyGoldBear · 26/04/2024 09:54

Wow the male entitlement there.

Why doesn't he consider a blindfold if he has no self control over his thoughts and objectification of women.

Women are not sex objects they are there to exercise the same as the men in their speedos. No women are complaining that men shouldn't wear speedos because we have self control basic respect not seeing men as purely sexual objects!

Never seen a man in speedos at the gym.

No…. And honestly there is a huge difference between thinking someone is dressed sexually and being sexually aroused by them

I personally don’t want to see girls doing RDLs in tiny scrunch butt shorts

Pancakefam · 26/04/2024 12:00

I'm on his side. When I last went to a gym I couldn't help but notice a group of 3 women, barely dressed, that decided to invade a group exercise class and take over a corner of the room, because they weren't comfortable working out in the main gym area. I thought to myself that it would make more sense for them to fully dress themselves.

I don't think it's a man/woman thing. No one should have to avert their gaze in public to avoid viewing overt exhibitionism, which is what wearing next to nothing to the gym is. Material also absorbs sweat.

Funkyslippers · 26/04/2024 12:01

Nevermind31 · 26/04/2024 09:35

E we Omen fo not have to dress in a way that men don’t feel they want to look. It is not up to women to control men’s urges.
Having said that, there is appropriate clothing / and I don’t really want to look at sweaty arm hair and nether regions outlines either. Which is my problem.
but mostly, I don’t want arse sweat on the workout machines…

You'd get that anyway whatever one wears in the gym

Funkyslippers · 26/04/2024 12:04

Bloody hell, what's he like when he goes to the beach/pool on holiday?

I never see women in skimpy clothes at the David Lloyd where I go. But I barely notice anyone else anyway, I'm too focused on what I'm doing. Maybe he should try that

OneTC · 26/04/2024 12:04

Sapiens · 26/04/2024 09:31

Control himself how? Afaik he didn't do anything?

You can definitely see people wearing not much clothes and not make it into some weird sexual emergency.

This says much more about matey than about anyone else

Why should "no one have to avert their gaze"? Isn't averting ones gaze what we usually do all the time? Do we usually go around staring at each other?

LaurieFairyCake · 26/04/2024 12:10

I don't have any weird anal porn issues Hmm

These are the leggings I mean - you'd have to be living on Mars to not know what I mean

unsync · 26/04/2024 12:12

TBF I find those butt scrunch leggings distracting, but more in a 'how can you work out with a wedgie' kind of thought process way, rather than a 'gosh that's so attractive' way.

bragpuss · 26/04/2024 12:16

Its a silly post by a man because straight men will always be distracted/mesmerised by attractive women in any kind of gym clothing. but not at all by unattractive women. The clothing makes no difference.

GR8GAL · 26/04/2024 12:17

I have no problem with people wearing what they want to the gym, if they are in fact going there to workout and break a sweat.

I've seen these "gym bunnies" wearing next to nothing, makeup on, barely touching machines and lots filming themselves seemingly looking for a reaction.

I do 30 minutes on the rowing machine which faces a mirror in a smaller room in my gym, there are some free weights and low-impact equipment in there too. I constantly see women dressed like strippers setting their phone to record, doing a short set that is completely pointless in terms of a workout, and walk out of the room.

THAT is what needs to stop. Its a gym. Not a casting room for OF.

Rustycheeks · 26/04/2024 12:19

No, I don't agree. I train regularly and my choice of workout wear is old fashioned leggings and a t-shirt but a lot of the women who train wear tiny crop tops and skimpy little outfits. They don't seem uncomfortable wearing them, and I imagine they're probably quite proud of the bodies they have worked hard to get, so if they feel confident wearing that then good for them.

Men need to learn to control themselves rather than trying to dictate how women should act or claim their choice of clothing is responsible for a mans actions.

And lets be real, you're going to check out a woman with a hot bod even if she is wearing more clothing.

ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 26/04/2024 12:28

I'm guessing he should avoid swimming and the beach if he can't cope with being around women in shorts and vests. 🙄

He's right about one thing it's absolutely his problem.

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 26/04/2024 12:48

If the poor man can't cope with unwanted arousal, he should join a men-only gym.

Allfur · 26/04/2024 12:50

I am not a fan of skimpy anything at the gym including topless men, just put it away

There's a difference between DELIBERATELY going out of your way to use the gym as your personal porn studio and looking at all women and calling them porn stars...

KiwiOtter · 26/04/2024 12:58

Those scrunch bum leggings / shorts are vile. I find myself looking at women’s bums when they wear them, but not in a sexual way, just in a bemused way at how uncomfortable and bad they look.

GerbilsForever24 · 26/04/2024 13:03

Personally, I can't stand the sort of super thin, super tight leggings that, as a PP says, do a particularly good job of delineating the butt cheeks. Ditto very low cut tops where it's hard to understand how the breasts are being protected during a workout.

But I'll defend a woman's right to wear them at the gym if she wants to. I agree with previous posters - we have all been subjected to shirtless men, often wearing nothing a but a tiny little speedo at the swimming pool or gym. We see men in ridiculous cycling leggings that leave NOTHING to the imagine. And believe it or not, we've all managed NOT to jump them.

If a man sees a woman in revealing clothing and finds that attractive, fine. Doesn't mean she shouldn't wear it. He can find her attractive and not be so distracted he can't function ffs.

Everyone knows what leggings you mean, but most people's brains don't immediately jump to anal porn on seeing them.

I'll repeat, women can wear what they want and if it makes you think of anal then that's your problem.

PoppyCherryDog · 26/04/2024 13:07

I agree the clothing has got a bit more revealing especially the scrunch bum shorts and I wouldn’t personally wear a lot of the outfits I see BUT women can wear what they want and it’s on the men to not look!! Women should not have to adapt their clothing choices because men can’t control themselves!!

Allthatglittersisntart · 26/04/2024 13:09

Completely agree now although I used to be in the ‘it’s your problem’ camp. Got a stern talking to by my big sister about clothes(Im tall and was wearing 1960s style dresses) . They were too short for an active woman, without shorts underneath.
Since I have thought more about what to wear in gym.
Grossed out by the bum crack leggings in tightly spaced gyms. If the gym is well set out it shouldnt be an issue but one gym I went to had half the machines lined up like a viewing platform facing where women were doing squats etc…

justjudy · 26/04/2024 13:09

I agree for the most part. Even as a woman, I feel uncomfortable being able to see another person's genital outline because her shorts are almost spray-on tight. It's grotty and no one seems to have any class or dignity anymore.
