Cruella's boot boys out on the street again protecting our British freedoms in their usual brutish fashion with violent disorder. She must feel very proud.

How is the state of the UK their fault? We were a fucking mess before they came, however they arrived.

Yes. Good point. But the brown skinned people in boats make a handy scapegoat so that those that truly have fucked us all over can keep fucking us over.

Treaclewell · 24/04/2024 20:00

Some years back, about this time of year, a historian on R4 made the point that St George was selected as our patron shortly before an English campaign aganst the Welsh, and suggested that it wasn't a coincidence. I have not seen this suggestion since.

It's not a good time to be straight, white or have a brain cell - that's for sure.

When you see what this does to your local area, you'll think differently.

If your country suddenly became unsafe and your life was in danger wouldn’t you choose the country where you already speak the language and/or have family and friends there? I would. That’s the reason most sanctuary seeking people chose the UK.

If you genuinely believe that then I respect your view. Sadly I do not. France.Italy,Spain all very safe countries to pass through on their way to good old blighty. Where they are housed, clothed. teched up with mobiles and bikes, medically cared for as a priority...Free of charge obviously. You think they dont know this? They do, the same way as they throw away their passports on the way over. The only difference is the above stated countries do not offer them the same. That is not seeking asylum to be safe. I would go to the first safe country for shelter in my desperation and be glad to be there not navigate which can economically support me best.

All of you do-gooders want to think long and hard - because you're going to be very sorry. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is demonstrating the power of having a brain cell.

I've got a bit confused, does one get a knight (white or otherwise) with the horse, I quite fancy having a knight.

Be careful what you wish for. You could end up with Sir Jacob Rees Mogg.😆

We had a patron saint before George. St Edmund who was English as far as I can work out.

That wonderful woefully useless King Richard the 1st prayed at a site dedicated to St George before he won killed thousands of people in a battle in a far land. where I personally don't think he should have been. He spent only 6 months in England but everyone thinks he's bloody marvelous. I don't. He then started taking the St George's flag into battle. Edward III made St George our patron saint.

I'm all for bringing Edmund back as our patron saint, makes more sense than George who is patron to many many countries. He wouldn't miss us

Flag is a white dragon on a red background - will make no difference to the Union Flag

Yes full.agree with everything...interesting fact. Richards heart didn't make it to England, it's buried with his mother Eleanor of Aquetain(sp) in France

I think it is fairly plan for all most to see that the governments ignoring of vital services for the population and instead focusing on a small number of desperate people has led to poor services for very many of us.
I am indeed sorry it has come to this, but change is coming.

Wouldn’t you? Really? Wouldn’t you try and make it to a place where you know people already? Really? Either way, we can have conversations about immigration without angrily blaming sanctuary seekers who are just doing what any of us would do in the same circumstances just because there are powerful dog whistlers trying to stir up division.

I have no idea, it was just a series of relatively unconnected words in a post.

itsjustbiology · 24/04/2024 20:16

It is with all due respect not a small number of desperate people though is it? This year alone and we are only in April nearly 7000 poor people arrived. 400 plus yesterday alone. All needing to be supported. It cannot go on surely everyone sees that?

@Iscreamtea it's not illegal to drink in the street in the UK.

The point I'm making is that the police had already made up their mind about this parade, or march, or whatever it was. They put out a tweet to say they expected Far Right people to be on the march. They put rules in place about where they could parade and pretty much pinned them to a small square of pavement. They kettled them almost immediately, they used riot gear and horses, they increased stop and search powers and removal of masks. Most of the unrest happened after the police took immediately aggressive action, not before.

None of these tactics have been used at the pro-Palestine marches which is why they are so 'peaceful'. Even people waving flags with Nazi swastikas on them don't get arrested in a hurry or until someone complains. They reserve that for lone Jewish men walking down the street.

To suggest that this is balanced and fair policing is laughable. And I have no particular allegiance with either group, just observing and stating facts.

Well said

It is a problem. It’s unsafe and desperate people are dying. We still don’t need to angrily blame the sanctuary seekers for all our problems and for doing what any of us might if we were desperate and had the bottle. A lot of our our problems are down to our own stupidity. Voting in a party that doesn’t care about people. Voting for Brexit. Ignoring climate change.
