Cruella's boot boys out on the street again protecting our British freedoms in their usual brutish fashion with violent disorder. She must feel very proud.

The thing is, it’s only on MN where a majority think it’s absolutely fine to let thousands of economic migrants come to the UK - open borders and all that. In the real world, a majority of people don’t want it. Generally, people who champion it are usually nicely set up in their own homes, use private schooling and private health care, don’t live in the towns where it’s a problem. These people just can’t see that we can’t pull houses out of our arses. People born here can’t get a house, they have to live in temporary accommodation for years before getting somewhere to call home. Those who use NHS can’t get appointments, have to wait for years for operations. Schools are bursting. So why would anyone with a brain cell actually think it’s okay to allow thousands of extra people into the country? Bonkers….

Schools aren't bursting. The number of births has declined so much, particularly in areas of historically high population density and birthrates that considerable numbers of schools are shrinking, merging and closing permanently.

This year's Y7 admissions are at the end of the last peak in births and Heads are faced with some difficult decisions, as children are the only significant source of income for a school (hiring out premises or playing fields at weekends and evenings doesn't make much of a dent in the costs) and every empty place represents a loss of a minimum of £6k before pupil premium and high needs funding is added. Just two spaces per classroom in a five form entry means two teachers cannot be replaced; in a larger school, it could represent an entire department.

Localised issues where there is only one secondary of any kind in the area are not representative of the wider picture, which is that numbers are falling significantly. By the time we get to the implementation of the two child benefits cap and the reduction in births from the pandemic three years after that, the only reason for areas being under pressure will be because schools have closed due to falling numbers.

Louloulouenna · 24/04/2024 21:37

@NeverDropYourMooncup that’s certainly not the case for year 7 registrations in my region. UK population overall is projected to grow by 7 million in the next 12 years and of course the birth rate for immigrants is far higher.

It is with all due respect not a small number of desperate people though is it? This year alone and we are only in April nearly 7000 poor people arrived. 400 plus yesterday alone. All needing to be supported. It cannot go on surely everyone sees that?

It cannot go on surely everyone sees that.

Most people do see it and want it addressed @itsjustbiology. Just as they see the potholes in our roads, the schools that are collapsing around our children, the housing crisis, the fall of our NHS from No.1 in the world to where it is now addressed.

What most people don't do is blame our problems on black and brown and the wrong kind of white Britons. Nor do we blame those who have only recently arrived in the UK. Because they didn't cause this mess.

This.

I wonder if they know that St George is of Greek and Palestinian descent.

❤️

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2024 21:42

exactly @TooBigForMyBoots - including those people sitting in hotels and shared housing awaiting a home office decision - because they want to start a life, and work

If we really wanted to 'do something' we would ensure the asylum worked swiftly and those with no claim where removed - but this government has underfunded and cut so much that people are waiting 5+ years for a decision - which is so wrong

Black people really can’t rest can they?🤣 why are we in your minds when the topic has something to do with a completely unrelated matter. BLM this, BLM that, go away man

People on here are weirdly obsessed with bringing black and brown people into discussions that have absolutely nothing to do with them. Living in their heads rent free.

Louloulouenna · 24/04/2024 22:12

Most BLM protestors in the UK and Europe and many other countries were white!

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2024 22:28

oh okay - so are white people not allowed to be concerned with black lives ?okay noted (and filed away in the bin), I would point out that one poster did keep going on about 'BLM BLACK rioters' so maybe PM her and set her straight.

I wish I could say I’m shocked but I’m really not. Living in their heads rent free indeed!

You’ve completely misunderstood mate. Also, no one’s PM’ing someone to set them straight and risk potentially get banned, no thanks

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2024 22:37

okay mate

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2024 22:40

I think the most important thing is did they have horses? Sorry if I misunderstood your point - it's been trying to have a factual conversation with Trump tonight

Where have you seen that stated? Are you by any chance conflating economic migrants with asylum seekers, despite the fact that over 70% of asylum seekers are found to be genuine and the rest get deported? You do know, don't you, that the government lets thousands of legal migrants into the country every year, including the Rwandans it is taking as a quid pro quo for the ridiculous Rwanda scheme?

You know why you have to wait years for operations? It's because the NHS is extremely heavily dependent on foreign workers, and it lost a very substantial tranche of skilled workers due to the sheer folly of Brexit. The NHS needs migration.

Wow

Mumsnet, any comment as to the level of racism on this thread?

Not feeling that it should be taken down?

Do you, poster, have any statistics of white men raping, sexually abusing their own children, neighbours children, friends children, raping random women in the street? Or is this not a white problem?

JanglingJack · 24/04/2024 23:35

Stupid is as stupid does.

MarioIa · 24/04/2024 23:43

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2024 20:47

@MarioIa could you help - I'm interested in getting more involved in charities and campaigns that tackle issues such a FMG and modern slavery - they are important issues - which ones do you support or work with?

That's neither here nor there in the wider picture and honestly whataboutery.

Why do you want to ignore VAWG that's happening today and instead focus on what happened 300-400 years ago?

MarioIa · 24/04/2024 23:45

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2024 20:49

I'm also baffled as to why - if people generally are, quite rightly, concerned about issues of slavery or the impact of cultural practices on woman and girls in other countries we don;t welcome them here - to safety, when they flee?

Because 80% of those that come are young men and they commit a lot more sexual violence than the indigenous males.
