To think this dress isn’t too sexy to wear to a wedding?

SIL wedding in October, attending as a guest. Is this dress too sexy? Too bridesmaid-y?

I always go for bodycon dresses as that’s what I feel most comfortable in, I am size 10/12 and an hourglass body shape so not sure what else would suit my body type really, I find a lot of other dresses make me look huge/frumpy.

Can’t say I think that dress if sexy in any way 🤣

Angelil · 22/04/2024 19:28

So where is this dress from?? It’s lovely!

Sweetheart7 · 22/04/2024 19:31

It's giving clubbing vibes or Saturday bar. It is a nice dress and I love the colour I had a similar one but with a belt round.

Have you got a 2nd option?

ellyeth · 22/04/2024 21:46

I think it's a nice dress.

OldPerson · 22/04/2024 22:14

Wear a jacket, bolero jacket, hat, fascinator, and/or scarf, shawl for the daytime.

Just aim for elegant.

Take it all off for the eye-popping bodycon, after all the speeches have concluded and everyone's in the disco part of the evening.

Theeffingcleaner · 22/04/2024 23:29

I love the dress and think it is perfect for a wedding, if you go gold accessories add some nice shoes and handbag to match, and a not so over the top fascinator,You could even wear navy accessories to make the colour pop even more you will look amazing In the dress🤩
As ppl have mentioned October weather is unpredictable so I would either go with a nice bolero type jacket over the top of it or a nice wrap to place over your shoulders especially for church (that’s if ceremony is being held in one) then the night time do change shoes and accessories to a different colour for a complete different look to the day time,
the colour of the dress is very versatile so you have a variety of different Coloured accessories you can put with it

midlifepisces · 22/04/2024 23:41

I feel like I'm looking at a different dress to everyone saying it's "stunning". To me it looks cheap, too tight and clubby, and a horrible boring colour that flatters pretty much no one.

You've got a lovely figure and could wear anything, I really wouldn't choose this naff body bandage! It will also show every lump and bump... would you be comfortable in it (even after the wedding meal?!)

This is not a criticism of you OP rather that it's so exciting to have a lovely event to attend after you've become a parent that I feel you could make more of it

Mirabai · 22/04/2024 23:41

She linked a dark green version with sleeves later in the thread.

NewName24 · 23/04/2024 00:07

All the dresses @VoluptuaSneezelips linked to on page 5 are so much nicer than either the one in your OP or the one you linked to later - all of which are just shouting 'look at me' , which isn't really the look a guest at a wedding should be going for.

Ok yes just seen that. The colour is better but the style isn't really... it's not wedding wear imo... the website is called Club L which kind of indicates where it's for?!

They've actually got a huge "wedding guest" section with some nice dresses. OP has selected the shortest and blandest for some reason. She could do so much better with a figure like that.

LuckySantangelo35 · 23/04/2024 08:41

NO BOLERO OP

unless you wanna look really unfashionable. If that’s the case then go ahead and wear one!

Dentistlakes · 23/04/2024 10:40

Gorgeous dress! I agree, a wrap or jacket for the ceremony and then you could remove it at the reception.

TequilaSunsets · 23/04/2024 11:31

It's just quite naff - very Fox News circa 2010. Surely there's a happy medium between this and a caftan?

MissBedelia · 23/04/2024 18:02

I came in to see how quickly a wrap would be suggested 🙈Who in gods name, other than on MN, wears a wrap?

The dress is lovely @Ginspirational and perfectly appropriate

Realisation wearers or DvF wearers for example.

The Teale - Wild Cherry

The Teale, in Wild Cherry, is a 3/4 length, wrap dress with cap sleeves & deep v-neckline. Sometimes you just need sexy, entrance-making, wind-catching, memory making dress.

Mirabai · 23/04/2024 18:12

No, that's a wrap dress! A wrap is like a pashmina: a cover up to prevent any sexiness !!

MissBedelia · 23/04/2024 18:15

Wedding threads: poster posts perfectly lovely dress.

then posters pile on to suggest wraps; jackets; knee length; not so low cut; phase eight; etc

VoluptuaSneezelips · 21/04/2024 11:39

Have your considered a-line aka fitted and flared dresses or wrap dresses as they also look amazing on an hourglass figure.
Some examples from Jolie Moi, they have some lovely wedding guest dresses in both pattern and solid colour plus with the sale on there are some real bargins.

#frumptastic 😆

Londonrach1 · 23/04/2024 18:17

Depends on the figure...I promise you you wouldn't want to see me in that dress. Jacket maybe to dress it up Abit..

Mirabai · 23/04/2024 18:18

Oh I thought you meant a wrap dress, I can’t get worked up about wraps.

The dress in the OP is okay, nothing special - the colour is meh and the one shoulder is a bit Aintree. That’s why posters are suggesting alternatives.

Maybe mn members see themselves in the dress..I can and it wouldn't look like that.....I need a jacket at least

Poster clearly has doubts, or wouldn't be asking.

If you are perfectly confident / happy with your choice, then you don't ask strangers for their opinions.

There are also lots of dresses (or other outfits) that are perfectly nice, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are a good look for a wedding.
