To think this dress isn’t too sexy to wear to a wedding?

SIL wedding in October, attending as a guest. Is this dress too sexy? Too bridesmaid-y?

I always go for bodycon dresses as that’s what I feel most comfortable in, I am size 10/12 and an hourglass body shape so not sure what else would suit my body type really, I find a lot of other dresses make me look huge/frumpy.

OP don’t you dare wear a bolero with those arms and at your age!! The dress is fab. Check the colour doesn’t match the bridesmaids and take a wrap just in case you’re cold but if it’s indoors don’t bother with sleeves.

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 21:40

Thank you @marmiteoneverything - it’s a fairly posh hotel wedding so no church to consider.

I just feel like those type of dresses are all I know. But this has thrown me off, especially with it being October, I’m very used to summer weddings.

Just very wary as it’s SIL, I’m going to be in photos and want them to look lovely and appropriate too!

I think you would look fantastic in it (you look absolutely stunning in that green dress!) but I think it’s a bit sexy for a wedding, personally. It probably wouldn’t be if you wore something over the top, but then it would sort of defeat the point of wearing the dress, if you see what I mean?

Where are the getting married?

I agree. A jacket definitely needed. I would also suggest a bright handbag and perhaps a broach

Arrestedmanevolence · 20/04/2024 21:45

The colour doesn't scream wedding to me, more GI Jane.

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 21:48

😂 @Arrestedmanevolence I think I was trying to go ‘autumnal’

I wore a similar navy dress for a wedding last year with an organza jacket over it. Perfect for the church and photos and then took it off for the evening reception 🙂

I really like it and would wear it for a wedding with a jacket.

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 21:49

Thank you everyone - this has been really helpful. I think it’s still my front runner but if I see a version with long sleeves I think that’ll probably be more appropriate! I have time, thank god!

I think it’s the bare shoulders which would make me think it didn’t look smart enough and the colour is a bit blah but a jacket or something would be perfect until the dancing starts!

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 22:05

I have also found this version, which might be a good middle ground but not sure I like it as much as the first. But maybe with the right jewellery and shoes..

Sigh, I do wish we could just wear a suit and be done with it.

Bushmillsbabe · 20/04/2024 22:09

Not such a fan of 2nd one
I know what you mean re suits - men have it easy. Women can of course also wears suits/a smart jumpsuit and jacket, but still not as easy as for men

OnHerSolidFoundations · 20/04/2024 22:11

I'd wear a jacket over that.
It's not massively weddingy, but it's fine.

Dargawn · 20/04/2024 22:12

Lovely! But wear jacket for day to evening.

Why can’t you wear a suit if you want? you can wear whatever you want - just don’t try to upstage the bride!

Dweetfidilove · 20/04/2024 22:12

That’s a gorgeous dress! Great figure too .

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 22:13

@Soontobe60 I just meant more so that men have it easy, whereas our options are seemingly endless. But I do love a dress!

i personally would not wear it as its brown and its unlucky to wear brown to a wedding.. but thats just me.

will you be dressing it up with say heals, jewellry and a hat or head peice?

in a different colour i would see no issue with it.. if you have the figure and you like the style and feel comfortable why can't you wear it?

Lj8893 · 20/04/2024 22:14

Not a huge fan of the brown one but the first one and the green one are lovely and perfectly suitable for a wedding.

Absolutley howling at the wear a broach suggestion….not even sure where you would buy a broach from 😂

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 22:16

@nervousweddingguest I have never heard that! Why is it considered unlucky?

i disagree with suits for men being easy... we have a wedding tomorrow and hubby has bought himself a new suit, and its lovely but blimey did it take some picking!

Allfur · 20/04/2024 22:19

If you have a lovely figure, surely most dress styles suit - not just body con

Ginspirational · 20/04/2024 22:22

@Allfur I’m not sure, I have tried on a few dresses that just made me lose all shape and look much bigger than I am. I find that bodycon just suits my body type the most. Or skater dress, but that wouldn’t really suit an October wedding.
