At the gyms absolutely. Out and about. Also yes. My girl is wearing the long version today 🤣

bradpittsbathwater · 20/04/2024 18:28

I think it's hilarious that people would wear them on a school run! I see some people wearing them for a run in London and that's ridiculous enough. Might as well wear a neon sign saying look at my arse.

Weighnow · 20/04/2024 18:29

Have you been under a rock? They're everywhere. There's a lady who must be in her 70s who wears them in my yoga class, but they're street wear for younger people (these and the leggings equivalent)

SuziQuinto · 20/04/2024 18:29

I don't go to a gym, but I see them a lot in the streets.
The leggings version are worn by 6th form girls where I teach, and I see lots of young women in them.

That is surely their intention?

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/04/2024 18:30

I see them a lot in the gym, not so much in the street, thankfully.

SuziQuinto · 20/04/2024 18:31

When I was a teenager, you had to hide your bottom. Every girl thought their bum was too big!
I like girls and women reclaiming their arses!

DoraSpenlow · 20/04/2024 18:32

There used to be a young woman wearing a pink pair of these at my gym. She had an enormous wobbly arse and looked like a giant blancmange running on the treadmill.A sight not to be unseen and the cause of many double takes. I don't think that was the look she was aiming for.

SuziQuinto · 20/04/2024 18:32

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 20/04/2024 18:03

Normal wear for young women in SE London....

In Yorkshire, too! Very popular.
With a crop top, usually.

EndlessVortex · 20/04/2024 18:32

I wear the legging version running, the reason being that they are cut very high on both the thigh and the bum (clearly) and therefore prevent chafing, which I very much need as I’m trying to shift the baby weight.

I’ve always been self conscious of wearing them, as my bum is a lot heftier than I’d like, so I’ve been wearing a long running hoody that comes down mid thigh. I’ve recently been contemplating what to wear now it’s getting warmer and had just about convinced myself to just wear any old top as nobody would care about my bum. This thread has just made me order three extra long vests!

Womblingmerrily · 20/04/2024 18:33

I see them a lot in the gym - they're just a type of cycling shorts that emphasise the glutes - I've heard them call booty shorts.

It's gym gear so yes it's tight. They're not my sort of thing but for those who are young enough and confident enough to wear them, leave them alone.

Stop policing women's clothes.

EvesamtsirhC · 20/04/2024 18:08

A mum on the school run has these in a nude colour. Always warrants a double take.

I taught some girls last year who always wore nude ones with a nude crop top! They did look like they were auditioning for the part of Lady Godiva!

Maelil01 · 20/04/2024 18:35

I do a night class and a girl in the class 18/19 often wears a pale peachy-pink pair. They are horrendous- very thin and show every lump, bump and ripple. She’s overweight and I can only think she’s NO idea what she looks like from behind. She’s a really lovely person and I just keep thinking if she was my daughter I’d be trying to dissuade her.

Branster · 20/04/2024 18:36

Even a size 6 with a nice well defined behind would barely look half decent wearing this style.
I've got a fantastic back side and would never put it on display like that. I would not have done it when I was 18 or in my 20s either.
It looks very indecent. Why would anyone want to showcase and display their body like that is beyond me. Like it is for the 'consumption' of the general public.
And the aesthetic is so bleurgh. They'll go out of fashion at some point I'm sure.
I've only ever seen them in real life once, in a random Tesco I stopped at to grab a small shop. 2 lovely looking very young women but the whole ensemble looked cheap, uncomfortable and weird and didn't do either of them any favours. At least the leggings were black, not nude or some bright colour to draw even more attention.

I'm not an advocate of everyone can wear what they want. No, people should dress for comfort, style, decency and appropriate for the occasion. And, by all means, to enhance their look if they so wish. Can't buy good taste unfortunately.

The idea that people should dress appropriately is not “policing”.

nadine90 · 20/04/2024 18:43

I’ve seen lots of young teens wearing these and the shorter version (cheeks hanging out). I’m really not one to comment on what people wear, but it does make me feel uncomfortable when I see young girls with their actual bums out. I just think about creepy blokes staring at them want to take my coat off to wrap around them! I’m glad I’ve got boys because I wouldn’t know how to manage a teenage daughter wanting to leave the house in them x

spookehtooth · 20/04/2024 18:44

I have to be honest, I find them quite a nice sight So long as the wearer doesn't mind and person(s) noticing do the right thing and not be inappropriate I guess there's no problem?

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/04/2024 18:44

At first I thought nah..they’re an abomination, but thinking about it, they’re just a modern version of the Victorian bustle, only less frilly and more ruched.

They are!

Divebar2021 · 20/04/2024 18:45

I’m not sure where you’ve been living that you haven’t seen this. In fact I’ve been seeing rather less of them of late so I think they may be on their way out.

Grapewrath · 20/04/2024 18:47

I bought some by mistake as I didn’t realise they were scrunch bum! I don’t wear them out but wear them to work out at home and they are actually really comfortable!
I think they’re fine tbh, I don’t care what people wear.

This reminds me of hot pants I used to wear pre teen 🤮 over 25 years ago. I can't believe my mum allowed it. I was a bit put off wearing them after I noticed a dirty old man ogling my arse at 11. Plus once a parent of my friends grabbed my thigh when I was wearing some

FuzzyWuzzyWuzABear · 20/04/2024 18:48

They look like they smell of sweaty crack

And after an hour or two I've no doubt they do 🤢🤮

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 20/04/2024 18:48

The plastic people wear them at my gym
