Lots of young women and teens wearing these leggings around London often with angle socks over the top - very 80s Jane Fonda.
Many others including mine wearing bra top with cargos- very 90s. Both equally revealing in their own way.

Personally I prefer both looks to the drippy oversized tracksuit look from a few years ago when everything was unisex.

2024istheyearforme · 21/04/2024 08:12

I've seen them, honestly I think the lines on them look like an anus .....

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/04/2024 08:14

I’ve seen nude/pink ones (long) in the town centre.

Was tempted to clutch pearls and think how frightfully vulgar.

You’ve obviously never been in a gym 😂 they don’t actually look that obvious and can actually be quite flattering

This…my DD wears them in the gym.

She mainly does weights/power lifting so I’d imagine the extra fabric in the scrunches gives a bit more room for manoeuvre.

They really don’t look that obvious in RL!

Saying that, as non-gym wear I’d raise an eyebrow but I don’t particularly like the sportswear aesthetic anyway.

RockAndRollerskate · 21/04/2024 08:33

Jesus the judgement on this thread about what does and doesn’t look good on women. Reads like a bloody sun article.

I have some and they are ridiculously comfy for working out in.

crumblingschools · 21/04/2024 08:42

@RockAndRollerskate I would comment if I saw a man in something similar.

If they were designed for powerlifting etc do men wear similar in the gym?

It’s not about what they’re designed for, it’s about policing / judging women’s clothing choices.

crumblingschools · 21/04/2024 08:49

@RockAndRollerskate as I said I would comment if men wore something like this out and about.

I was wondering whether men wore similar in the gym, because they don’t appear to have become fashionable for men to wear outside the gym. But for girls/women they are being promoted as fashionable item and the fashion industry is very misogynistic.

You just have to remember the original advert for the wonder bra. That was all about men ogling

BeakyPIinders · 21/04/2024 08:56

My gay friend wears them. He likes the pulling in effect and the attention

Some men do wear leggings to the gym but I’ve really only seen that in the winter. They’re very compressive, more like running tights. No scrunch bum. Usually with a pair of shorts over the top.

TrishM80 · 21/04/2024 09:46

Men don't wear this shit. Some women just like to go around showing everything off for some reason. Same on nights out, everything hanging out. No self respect.

crumblingschools · 21/04/2024 09:48

@PortiaWithNoBreaks so why do women need to have something that accentuates their bum crack and genital area?

Is it similar to gymnastics/athletics where men wear slightly less skimpy and close fitting kit compared to women?

Will women in weightlifting competitions wear shorts like this? Don’t normally watch that event but may have to when the Olympics are on.

Interesting that the look of the male ballet dancer is not encouraged in every day life

thegirlwithemousyhair · 21/04/2024 09:56

Sadly not uncommon where I live among girls/young women. You may as well go out in your knickers.

😂😂😂

@thegirlwithemousyhair and if the male ballet dancer look became a thing, you can bet there would be a thread or two on here about it!

januaryjan · 21/04/2024 10:07

Why would you wear something that looks like you have a giant wedgie?😕

Sorry but they look gross and bum sweaty.

Shetlands · 21/04/2024 10:11

My 70 year old saggy arse would look like two deflated balloons so I'll pass. 😂

SuziQuinto · 20/04/2024 18:31

When I was a teenager, you had to hide your bottom. Every girl thought their bum was too big!
I like girls and women reclaiming their arses!

I agree!

all the faux shock that a young woman might be happy to show off her shapely arse. Go for it I say.

my arse is far more modest as its old and wobbly But if I had an arse I was proud of, I’d give these a go. And all the outrage from middle aged middle class women who probably wore hot pants and crop tops in their youth would only make them more appealing.

januaryjan · 21/04/2024 10:12

Nearly as bad as the offense to the eyes that is the banana hammock.

I say Nearly! mind you.😬

actually we already see men in lycra cycling shorts. Admittedly they have a reason for wearing them but its still requires one to avert one's eyes, especially among the slightly older crowd...ahem.

No need to get arsey about it. 😀

crumblingschools · 21/04/2024 10:17

@thegirlwithemousyhair but that isn’t such a fashion/every day look

I don’t know why ppl wear scrunch leggings as every day wear. Fashion maybe? Comfort? Unclench a bit. So what? Why are you looking at people’s backsides?

Wrt powerlifting competitions there are clothing guidelines laid down by all federations which are scrutinised and must be adhered to. So you’re unlikely to find scrunch bum shorts at comp never mind the Olympics. 😂

Come to my gym, there’s a special posing room and The Menz wear itty-bitty posing trunks. 💪💪

MumTeacherofMany · 21/04/2024 10:26

@TheHeadOfTheHouse that's probably why she wears them. How cringe on the school run

Help me with 'strong bum'. What is a strong bum, how does one achieve it, how does it benefit etc?

I have spent most of my life trying to keep my bum small and avoid people gawping at it, so I genuinely don't understand this concept.

Edited

A strong bum is just strong glutes and it's achieved through glute exercises like hip thrusts, donkey kicks, some types of squats and lunges. It helps with other exercises like deadlifts and everyday activities like walking up stairs, but it's also for the cosmetic look.
I grew up with women in TV shows and movies constantly asking 'does my bum look big in this??' so it's strange that trends have done a 180 but I'm glad they have and the fashion isn't to be as small and flat as possible anymore. The BBL is a procedure I hadn't heard of until the last few years but if people getting implants and fat transferred into their behinds is anything to go by I'd say small bums are out of fashion for now
