NC for this.

Is it just me or are all landlords frowned upon a MN.

We own and rent out 3 properties all our properties are rented out to young families, just under market rate, we allow them to decorate their homes how they like, and if there is any issues or problems they just call us and we sort it out ASAP.

I know that there is some terrible landlords out there, that should be dealt with but there are thousands of other that are decent that follow all the laws and their tenants are very happy.

Remember you only had to rent because you couldn't afford it. You couldn't afford it because of the existence of landlords affecting the prices
Why are you baking this assumption? It's incorrect. I was renting because I wasn't yet stable in my life (hence the 5 different landlords). I moved to improve my job opportunities and really because I wasn't ready to settle anywhere specifically, so no, I wouldn't have bought then even if I could have afforded it too. As it is, I wasn't earning well enough until I had gained 8 years experience and was prepared to make that commitment with someone else.

So no, nothing to do at all with landlords, on the opposite, I feel very lucky that I was able to rent so much more easily than it is now, more cheaply, with more choice, and much less stress. If the gov had valued landlords better, we wouldn't be in the situation we are now where supply is much less than demand, because there is so much less to gain being a private landlord, and rent is ridiculously high because of the amount of tax landlords now have to pay, all this ultimately penalising tenants, who are nowhere in a better position to buy their own property.

Instead of making it better for both landlords and tenants, the gov has made it worse for both!

There's nothing inherently wrong with renting or being a landlord, the problem is buy to let landlordism which incentivizes and allows the landlord to exploit the tenant in order to maximise profit.
And if that weren't enough it has pushed up the price of housing so that fewer people are able to be homeowners under forced instead to increase the wealth of landlords- in other words it's a racket!
What we need is tighter regulation of landlords, for one thing if you are a landlord then you should own your asset outright, free and clear no mortgage.

About 40% of landlords own their property outright. I bet not one of them charge below market rate for new tenants. Bottom line.. All you need is one over leveraged twat setting a price higher then market rate and they'll all follow suite likes bees to the honeypot.

...and people will pay it because they have no choice.

I agree! BTL has set the benchmark, BTL is not in the interests of the people at all.

Grow up, OP. The criticism you are receiving here is completely justified. Your tone deaf ' woe- is- me' whining whilst people struggle to buy homes is quite nauseating really. Entitled, socially irresponsible and greedy. Have some self respect and accept that there will be bad feeling and resentment towards property hoarders given the current climate. If you don't like the answer, don't ask the question.
