To think that Landlords have a bad name.

NC for this.

Is it just me or are all landlords frowned upon a MN.

We own and rent out 3 properties all our properties are rented out to young families, just under market rate, we allow them to decorate their homes how they like, and if there is any issues or problems they just call us and we sort it out ASAP.

I know that there is some terrible landlords out there, that should be dealt with but there are thousands of other that are decent that follow all the laws and their tenants are very happy.

I strongly dislike the idea that there are families living in insecure private rented housing, paying extortionate rents (and just because its 'market rent' doesn't stop it from being extortionate) and not knowing for certain whether they'll need to up sticks and move every 6 - 12 months.
While on the other side of the deal you have someone who due to pre existing financial advantage is profiting from them. I understand how capitalism works, but decent secure and affordable housing (to which the private sector is a barrier) is so fundamental to wellbeing, and is the foundation on which people build their lives and their children's future, so it really doesn't seem an appropriate vehicle for profiteering. That said, it's the game I hate, not the player. And while I'd never be a landlord myself, I realise there are people who try to do it as ethically as possible.

After googling I can only find ‘grimace’ as a meaning for 😬.

Both PeaceOnThePorch’s posts and yours seem a bit weird and, well, childish.

But I suppose you’re both private landlords.

Their comments are not childish.

Your comments and vision have been a little outlandish and unworkable.

So much for your Tory leaning views, you and most posters on here can see what you are trying to do, if you think that LA will be able to afford to buy, maintain and then sell the properties on to tenants when they can not even afford provision for SEN kids, pick up bins or fund SS, then yes you are away with the fairies.

Oh dear.

So much for your Tory leaning views”? You can believe me or not. I choose to believe what you say about your goodwill and decency as a landlord. It might be nice for you to extend the same courtesy to me and other posters.

What am I “trying to do”? I have a view and I express it.

Why are private LLs so afraid of public interest measures? Why are you against stringent regulation? If you were forced to sell you would be compensated, at least for the most part.

Are you so wedded to unending profit from tenants that you genuinely cannot see that there might be better ways for us all to secure housing?

Where have I said that stringent regulation does not have a place.

Your "proposal" would only allow large companies to have properties to rent out and most slum landlords are the ones with huge portfolios.

You would take away a property from someone a that could cost them their families home because of you believe that only large companies can afford, because anyone that was told that you have to sell at a huge discount would not sell, just look at compulsory purchase buys at the market rent, plus pay all associated costs. I can assure you most of the public would not allow this to happen because their houses could be next.

2 of our properties are rented out for less than the mortgage (which we can afford to pay without a tenant).

I'm a Pharmacist.

Well, I have around 20 different types of meds and the like in my cupboards, including ibuprofen, anti-histamines, travel sickness tablets, paracetamol, heartburn medicine, cough medicine, some plasters, bandages, TCP, folic acid tablets, and asthma inhalers. So I'm practically a Pharmacist right?

😆

Oh and I am DEFINITLEY not a private landlord! 😂

I don’t need to ask you how you ‘earn’ your money: your stupidity and unpleasantness marks you out as a private landlord. Along with some others on this thread.

You have tripped yourself up.

God help your clients if you are a KC, its laughable. I can just see you in chambers.

Why have you been waiting for this? Are the arguments too much for you?

How have I tripped myself up?

Do you think barristers are inevitably not Tories?

Strange stuff.

That you have said that you are above getting personal, and you have no issue with LLs per se, and then I can see that you are a LL and how you make your money.

I could see that you were just trying to keep a lid on your true feelings.

Do you think barristers are inevitably not Tories?- what an incredibly strange question, for someone that has quoted quite a few times how they want people to think they vote, to show that they are not socialist.

You tried too hard.

I think there should be structural change in the housing market.

Being called a liar on a thread by a poster (with you as a hanger-on) whose contributions have before that simply been vacuous insults might explain my ire.

To add to the views on removing properties from the market, a lot of people will argue this doesn’t happen and landlords are martyrs for providing homes for people.

This isn’t true.

When we were buying our first home we were repeatedly outbid in auctions by buy-to-let investors on houses we would have afforded. So yes, you are stopping people from buying their own homes.

With our birthrate in decline we had enough housing. Population 57.87 million (1994) Yet our population has increased by 10 million in 18ish years 66.97 million (2022) - successive governments have promoted demand for more housing by creating that increase. We vote for the population increase. Yes it means our young can't buy houses. Diversity is good, however there is a price. Landlords are the symptom, without creating the demand they could not exist.

The elite want to us to own nothing. This is how it's done.

I have a btl mortgage and it is a condition that i charge a specific amount of rent. It wouldn't be allowed for me to charge less than the mortgage. Nor would i because what would be the point?

As it happens I don’t hate private landlords as a group. I have been entirely civil to the OP despite her prickliness.

My irritation was at a halfwit (landlord) who called me a liar.

I just think the system should be reformed.

It is interesting, though, how defensive and how ready to insult others landlords are on this thread.
