To think that Landlords have a bad name.

NC for this.

Is it just me or are all landlords frowned upon a MN.

We own and rent out 3 properties all our properties are rented out to young families, just under market rate, we allow them to decorate their homes how they like, and if there is any issues or problems they just call us and we sort it out ASAP.

I know that there is some terrible landlords out there, that should be dealt with but there are thousands of other that are decent that follow all the laws and their tenants are very happy.

Then that's a special use case and has a place in society. A family unit renting long term, because they have no choice, is an issue.

Where would you like people to live that that have no choice to rent, on the street, I will tell the single Mum that lives at mine, that can not work, that she has to live in a hotel in temp accommodation that she can not have a home, because someone on the internet says that there is an issue.

Landlords are not the issue.

I actually can't beleive this thread is still rumbling on with the same points of view on both sides that have been hashed out for what... Two days now? Three?
If they're not going to get it by now, they never will.

You misunderstand my point of view. A single mum who works should be able to afford her own house. However, she cannot due to the inflation of property prices compared to wages, caused by people owning multiple homes and selling them for profit over many years.

You are not gods gift for allowing someone to live in your second home. It's just that renting is the lesser of 2 bad options.

I bet there are as many bad tenants as there are bad landlords....we only rented for a year and made so many sacrifices to buy our home early on as a married couple. I already owed a property abroad that we had to sell to fund our first UK home. We used to pay £750 in a shitty terraced house 12 years ago and hated renting. The cherry on top, I had a couple of thugs showing at our door when my husband wasn't home, claiming we weren't paying rent, we had to show them bank statements and it turned out the agency was pocketing the money and not paying the landlady! 🙈

We are 29 pages in now and you are still asking the same questions you asked in the first few pages, which have been answered multiple times by multiple people. Do you want a different answer or do you want people to suddenly admit you are right and they were wrong all along?

You're relentless

So. Many. Times.

Well as someone that rented years ago and was not a LL, I have more idea than you do, having never been a LL.

Haven't I?

I haven't said that on the thread

I could have been one and seen the light

There you go with those super special landlord psychic powers again...

You will not get a sensible answer.

LLs are scum, blood sucking, and cancer according to that poster.

Why are you here.

Also why do you take money from your window company from LLs who's money is earned from being a "blood sucker"

The same goes for you.

You see it one way, I see it another.

The difference is my kids will have a home that they can call their own, and will not be paying for a LLs boat.

We both know, that if you could make your kids lives easier you would grab it with both hands.

We are about to buy a 2.75 million house that our tenants, will just be using as a place to live while working, the rent will more than pay off all our other properties within 3 years so will be a very a good investment.

Sounds good and completely agree. We did similar and now our kids are secure, which gives me peace of mind.

I wasn’t unpleasant at all. And I made no accusation of any sort. I just pointed out that your accounting method was unrealistic

Haha, no unpleasantness nor accusation! Was I supposed to believe that being accused of using sophistry was a compliment!

You being a solicitor was such a given! The usual phrase 'with all respect' with what follows is all but respectful. The use of big words that hides accusation of deception, the needing to point things out....yep, you represent your profession well....

As for my accounting methods, I have no idea what you are refering to. I only describe how currently, a big chunk of the income I receive from rent goes to the government and most of the rest is swallowed by costs. Costs to make sure my tenants are living in a safe and well kept property. Which part of it do you qualify as unrealistic?

Scurryfunge12 · 23/04/2024 21:21

I think the OP clearly must have some conscience to have posted here in the first place. Why would they post about such a topic if not seeking reassurance and validation that they are not an awful person? It didn’t go that way so that’s why it’s descended into an argument because OP feels defensive having not got the responses they were seeking. This is the sort of topic it’s probably best not to discuss as it’s never going to change anyone’s mind, at least not outwardly.

Only 2.75 million pounds? In a rough area is it? You'd need to spend 6 million pounds or more to get a decent place where I live. At least you don't need to worry about who rents it, as it's going to be a bit of a shithole for that price.

Same. Our kids will have a house bought for them when they’re ready to move out because of us being landlords and I’m very pleased about that.

Just to be clear i mean they moved into a rental. Not that they had a second home

I didn't say there shouldn't be any rental properties. I said that individuals shouldn't own more than one house.
