Nobody eats oranges like this, do they?

I've just watched 14yo DS peel an orange (a small one), then stuff the whole thing into his mouth like an oversized grape. He says it's "easier".

Surely, nobody else does this? The correct way to eat any size of orange is segment by segment.

This made me chuckle!
no right or wrong I suppose 🤣🤣🤣

Fannyfiggs · 20/04/2024 11:22

Ummm, sometimes 😂

Depends who's watching...

WarshipRocinante · 20/04/2024 11:25

That’s a lot of juice and chewing in one mouthful!

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 20/04/2024 11:25

I might admit to having seen that method before. The reason I stopped buying small oranges is because dd ate them as fast as she could grapes

desperatedaysareover · 20/04/2024 11:27

Mine does this, it’s more hygienic apparently. He’s got form, since he was about three he'd eat strawberries with the stalks on and the other day attempted to eat a muffin, case and all (he thought it was ‘fancy edible paper’ God help him) so at this point I’m just glad he will peel his bananas.

TheMuskratOfDestiny · 20/04/2024 11:27

😂

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 20/04/2024 11:45

But is there a correct way? It is a bit like all those vids on social media saying you have been eating your toast all wrong, cooking your pasta all wrong, making roasties wring. Surely there is no wrong or right and people should be free to do things how they wish or how works for them?

It sounds like something a 14 year old would do to be fair 😂.

InTheShallowTheShalalalalalalalow · 20/04/2024 12:17

My dd peels an orange and then bites it like an apple. It makes me want to cry 🤣

SocksAndTheCity · 20/04/2024 12:18

When kiwi fruits first became widely available (and were considered extremely exotic) I remember a girl at my school who ate them whole and unpeeled, as you would an apple. It must have been like eating a hamster.

effoffwind · 20/04/2024 12:30

I could try this if was from Terry's !!

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 20/04/2024 12:50

When I was that age I went through a phase of peeling the 'skin' / membrane off of each segment, like some kind of surgeon. At least his way is quicker!

BlowDryRat · 20/04/2024 14:39

I used to peel the segments too. Very satisfying.

DS did it again this morning, in front of his friend who was similarly appalled.

😂😂 made smile..

TuesdayWhistler · 20/04/2024 15:36

My dad used to buy really small oranges ,he thought they were great and really sweet..

I'd try them and found them so sour that I could feel my face turning inside out until I could see last Wednesday.

He'd eat them whole.. I'd feel ill listening to him..

I hate oranges. Vile things. Like satans orange bollocks.

babybrum · 20/04/2024 15:38

I eat one half whole and then the other if we're talking easy peelers😂

babybrum · 20/04/2024 15:39

As a child I'd eat kiwis whole with skin on and leave nothing but the stalk of an apple

shoppingshamed · 20/04/2024 15:39

I've just had an orange, I can report that I ate some single segments, some double depending on how it came apart. It was too big to eat like a grape

NobecauseNo · 20/04/2024 15:41

For the small types I normally go this approach but half at a time.

Whether I laugh at this or not depends on how old your DS is.

If he's five I'd say 'Awww wee soul', but if he's 25 I will laugh and point 😂

Akamai · 20/04/2024 18:19

If it's an orange rather than easy peeler, I can see his point.

Trying to segment oranges is pretty hard!

Houseinawood · 20/04/2024 18:20

Mine once took the biggest bite of an apple that he could but his mouth got stuck in the apple 🍏 both top and bottom teeth and he couldn’t see as it was over his eyes 😂😂he could get it out with his hands as it was well and truly wedged in - I have to say I laughed and I did rescue him eventually

Were they not kumquats?

AhBiscuits · 20/04/2024 18:23

I might shove a few segments in at once but you have to crack it open to make sure you get as much pith off as possible.
