To think a lot of CBeebies is crap

cbeebiescrap · 15/04/2024 20:57

Yes I know I am not the target audience.

But Vida the vet seems to constantly be on.

I like go jetters and octonaughts but a bit too grown up for toddlers.

The clangers is boring shit.

What the hell is waffle and biff and chip

I don’t like bluey. I know. But I don’t.

I've been exposed to some of these from younger DC in the family and the DC of a couple of friends. Definitely #teambluey here, it's very well done and hits lots of different levels. I was pre-warned on here that Bing characters are almost all dicks (and that Flop is probably on a huge dose of something) so going into it knowing that, I can deal with it and watch it that way- Bing is a little bugger though. Luckily he doesn't get much air time amongst the children I know.

I think I have a weird taste in kids tv though; I can stand Topsy and Tim. I just don't mind it - although Tim would get much blunter treatment from me for some of his whingier moments! The one that grates on me is Hey Duggee. I can appreciate the inclusivity of it but just can't stand the style / format and find Duggee creepy.

Beansandneedles · 17/04/2024 08:59

You know the whole thing is optional? Especially if you dislike it you can just not switch the tv on. Audiobooks are a good option if you still want some chill time and the kids to be occupied. Mine are older now so we have a yoto player, but Tonie boxes are made for little hands. Or just spotify, loads of free audio stories on there.

Omg no didn’t realise. Thanks so much for introducing me to the concept of an off button.

D’you not just think it was a light hearted sort of piss taking thread? Don’t take life so seriously.

I got a bit snappy with the kids at bath time last night and I apologised and told DS ‘I think I need to be a bit more like Flop.’ He replied ‘indeed.’ Bing is worth it just for that 🤣

Honestly someday you might just miss it 😂

My DS is 16 now but when we're being silly we still have the odd blast of Ra Ra the Noisy Lion and Show me your groovy moves amongst others.

DH and I still cackle with laughter remembering the day Maka Paka tripped over his stones!

We still have our spider from Wooly and Tig. His all time favourites were Big Cook Little Cook and I Can Cook. He's studying catering. Wash your hands with slippy dippy soap ...🤪

Desecratedcoconut · 17/04/2024 10:33

It use to be brilliant. Big Cook Little Cook and Space Pirates were firm favourites.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 17/04/2024 07:12

I used to love Come Outside with Auntie Mable. My favourite episode was about 'useful holes' which always made me laugh. I loved Balamory and I Can Cook, with Katie and children cooking. It had a catchy song about washing your hands.

Oh yes "useful holes" is a classic.
Especially the song she sings:
"Holes, holes, here and there, useful holes are everywhere!"

35andThriving · 17/04/2024 14:41

Abney and Teal will always hold a special place in my heart. I know it's on iplayer but I'm not sure if it's currently aired. Ditto Clangers.

No, I was just trying to be helpful. I know quite a few people who do things because it's how they were raised, or because it's how their friends are doing it, and sometimes people benefit from 'permission' to do things differently. I know I can value someone reminding me there are other pathways sometimes.

But I can see you read my message in a negative tone. Wasn't my intention, I try generally to live positively, keep things friendly and not overthink things (i.e. second guessing peoples meanings when they ask a question on mumsnet!). Makes life more pleasant in my opinion.

Hope you have a good day.

Haha that is magic

RedRobyn2021 · 17/04/2024 20:49

@Beansandneedles

My 3yo has a yoto and they are fantastic as an alternative to screen time

Auburngal · 17/04/2024 20:54

My friends who have children or GC many prefer the older programmes. One for example - DS loves the claymation Fireman Sam over the CGI version.

Another loves Superted.

Plus the older shows, you can pick up the DVDs cheap from charity shops, CEX and online.

Plus any toys from old programmes can be bought fairly cheap from charity shops. Friend’s DGS who loves Superted bought ST teddy from a CS for £1.50!

Auburngal · 17/04/2024 20:58

During the first lockdown, people posted on local FB groups saying that they have stuff - toys, books, jigsaws, DVDs etc which they put on top of their drives for people to help themselves foc.

A couple of my friends got some old DVDs from these of children’s shows from the past and their kids loved it

KatieB55 · 17/04/2024 21:04

Bing is very whiny - awful programme.

Floogal · 17/04/2024 23:15

I must admit Evil Pea and Mrs Hobbs boil my piss. Bing is whiney and In the night garden drags on for too long. Other than that, I actually like Cbeebies. Sadly CITV got shut down and the pop channels have been deleted from Freesat

Pipersouth · 17/04/2024 23:21

I miss CBeebies- Pokémon are just irritating and Teen titans just get on my wick 😁

Desecratedcoconut · 18/04/2024 07:22

Oh, I love Teen Titans, the pyramid money mummy, the daylight saving time, the piss take of Lucy when Beast Boy is 'using 100% of his brain, y'all' to find to hidden objects in the picture puzzle. The, 'if it ain't broke, don't fiddle with it' song is sung regularly around here usually in a pa display after someone has broken something. It's comedy gold. I really miss it.

Teen Titans Go is the Animaniacs of today, brilliant quirky comedy. The Oregon Trail episode is absolutely hilarious! And I downloaded Night Begins To Shine, what a power balled.

Darcy86 · 18/04/2024 10:59

My 3yo absolutely loved Mr Tumble last year, to the point where we went to one of those Justin Fletcher weeks at Butlins (he was actually great to be fair!) As well as Night Garden, he'll watch them still now but definitely not as enthralled by them as he was. His faves now seem to be Vegesaurs, Bing, any Andy show. Bing is such a whiny little brat though, I'm sure my son has copied his intonation of "ohhhh"

He will watch the blocks shows and octonauts, yakka dee, old Jack's boat, the little messy/okido chap but given the option he would just watch Toy Story back to back all day now!

I can't stand Vida the Vet or Waffle. The Biff & Chip theme tune goes right through me. Love Hey Duggee. Bluey I can take or leave.

SquareEyesOO · 24/04/2024 15:34

Not sure if this is allowed, but I have a newsletter where I discuss this kind of thing at length.... including how Waffle is basically a stalker. If he were human he'd have a restraining order! Vida is on three-ish times a day, but if those three times are when you sit down, it would seem like it's always on. YANBU to dislike Bluey, but you have to admit it's well-made....

Do you have a professional interest in children's TV or have your children driven you so barmy with it you were driven to do something useful with it all?

I'm not sure it never leaves a mark, fwiw. I can still remember all the words and actions to a song about a digger from a boogie-beebies episode circa 2012.

Nanny0gg · 24/04/2024 15:47

AprilShowerslastforHours · 16/04/2024 23:38

The Blocks series are all amazing. My dd has learnt so much from them. She's just 4 and has known all her letters for over a year, has recently learnt her number bonds to ten and is forever moaning at me for calling a colour blue when it's indigo. I also love the humour, my favourite line being from the Alphablock Numberblock crossover, when two of the letters try to emulate the numbers' way of adding by jumping on top of each other which results in T moaning "Tut, that's no way to make a number. Be rational!" to P and I.

I'm still discovering new things about them too, despite having seen them all many times. I've only realised why 3 is so narcissistic (because he's the same shape as I who is likewise). There's meant to be a competely new series being made and I'm really excited (more so than my dd)!

It's great when these sorts of programmes are properly educational with humour and and cleverness.

I'll have to watch them again...😊

(That's why I love Duggee)

BouleDeSuif · 24/04/2024 15:58

I cannot, cannot stand Vida the Vet. It's utterly shite. It's so twee it makes me want to throw something at the TV. So fucking cutesy. Just fuck off with your bloody hamster and your stupid hair.

That feels better.

I do love Duggee.

SkyBloo · 24/04/2024 16:44

My kids loved/love:
In the Night garden (trippy a f but if you are 2 apparently it works)
Twirlywoos
Supertato
Go jetters
Octonauts
Bluey
Topsy & tim

I would definitely take Cbeebies over basically any other kids channels

I detest the hyper stimulating crap like cocomelon. That stuff is designed to keep 2 year olds glued to a screen.

pambeesleyhalpert · 24/04/2024 20:35

Waffle and everyone in that show drives me crazy. Same with olga da polga. Clangers is SO boring. There's loads of shite on there
