To think a lot of CBeebies is crap

cbeebiescrap · 15/04/2024 20:57

Yes I know I am not the target audience.

But Vida the vet seems to constantly be on.

I like go jetters and octonaughts but a bit too grown up for toddlers.

The clangers is boring shit.

What the hell is waffle and biff and chip

I don’t like bluey. I know. But I don’t.

Come Outside was the old time classic. Extremely dated now as it's from the mid 90s (last shown around 2011 on CBeebies I think). My youngest often asks to watch it and thankfully they are all on YouTube. The crisps one was never shown in later years as apparently it encouraged unhealthy eating 🤣🤣

You're thinking of Show Me, Show Me

This is the best episode of that 🤣

Omg yes Show Me, Show Me!!

WinkyTinky · 16/04/2024 14:57

Me and the kids, now 16 and 12, often flick through to see what's on CBeebies as we used to absolutely love it, and it seems to have gone downhill a bit. Saying that, I can't really be sure if it was them that loved it or me! Show Me Show Me was so lovely, and Chris and Pui will always be my all time favourites. I was a bit sad when they moved away from the CBeebies House, but then Alex and Cerrie were soon new favourites. Speaking of Mr Bloom, I met him and his vegetables once when he brought his show to a local Sure Start centre. I got to hold Baby David the Cucumber....

Still howl at the Show Me Show Me fluttering kite clip @SprainedBum 😂

FWIW, Bluey was a joint BBC commission with ABC.

Ah! I want to know who made it, as in wrote, storyboarded, etc. And how far removed from the Beeb they are. 😆

The creator is called Joe Brumm, and it was created by Aussie company Ludo Studios. Brumm was an animator for a couple of programmes, Charlie and Lola was one I believe as well as that hideous pig. He's not that involved with the beeb I imagine.

Toddlers are not supposed to be watching lots of TV, so the BBC doesn't provide lots of stuff that is addictive for them, being a mostly ethical organisation.

Things like Cocomelon that you find on other channels are not fun for toddlers to watch, just addictive and bad for their developing brains.

When your child gets to about 4, is when the BBC content comes into its own. JoJo and Gran Gran is great.

Lolling at "mostly" ethical organisation.

We don't have tv so I don't know if they air it live but Cocomelon is on the BBC iPlayer.

cbeebiescrap · 16/04/2024 20:01

Laughing at Yakka Dee being good for language development. I’m not sure shouting at children to say a word over and over is a SALT approved tactic! Or perhaps it is 😂

TheBirdintheCave · 16/04/2024 22:06

@cbeebiescrap As far as I know Yakka Dee was created with language development in mind and they work with a speech and language advisor.

My eldest is 10 now but remember him loving Topsy and Tim that made me want to jump out the window. He also loved Mr Bloom and later ‘Do You Know’ and Graces Amazing Machines.

My toddler goes mad for Twirly Woos, Mr Tumble and for some reason Nick Cope Popcast?

Andy Day, Bing, Waffle Doggy, Vida the Vet and Olga da Polga can get in the bin.

Tisfortired · 16/04/2024 22:13

Ah yes we love JoJo and Gran Gran, and what a good theme song too.

Andy and the band, Tracy Beaker and Danny and Mic are my toddlers go to programmes!

You need to go see Andy and the band live!

Do they still have Abney and Teal? I liked that one.

Omg I loved Abney and Teal. DS not so much but I used to make him watch it

Can't speak for what's on these days but we have very fond memories of Razzledazzle, Boogie Beebies and Me Too which were DC1's favourites (now 18!).

God they bring back memories! DH and I still break out into song now and again from some of the old shows. Every time I cut a mango I have to start singing "Mango! Go, go, Mango! Mango, shake your coconuts!......watermelon, honeydew and canteLOUPE!" The kids, now 18 and 20, look at me blankly. They can't even remember nursery rhymes, which strikes me as wierd because I'm sure my generation could recite most nursery rhyme from their own childhood with little difficulty.

Nick Jr was a favourite in our house too. Wonder Pets "a baby penguin, stuck on an iceberg! We have to help him!" blah blah😆 - that's another one I break out into if I see any random animal sometimes. Then there was Little Einsteins, Max and Ruby, Backyardigans etc. They were US shows but dubbed with English accents to not too annoying. Their very favourite was Thomas the Tank Engine - both totally obsessed between 18 months - age 4 ish.

None of us ever quite got the very very wacky Yo Gabba Gabba. I'm sure the producers must have been on drugs.

I don't know any of the new ones, although I've heard of some of them.

Springtimewingtime · 16/04/2024 22:41

CurlyhairedAssassin us too.... "add a little chilli if you like things hot!" 😂. The teens just cringe. Max and Ruby I remember, also Humf was a favourite. Gigglebiz was genius when it first started too....can't make a cake without say sponge like Dina Lady 🤗.

Ah yes we love JoJo and Gran Gran, and what a good theme song too.

Husband has a music degree and raves about that theme tune 😂

NeverEnoughSleepNeverEnoughCoffee · 16/04/2024 23:29

Olga da Polga has ruined my love of guinea pigs and I have to turn over if Old Jack's Boat comes on, but I will gladly watch Sarah and Duck even without the DCs.

AprilShowerslastforHours · 16/04/2024 23:38

The Blocks series are all amazing. My dd has learnt so much from them. She's just 4 and has known all her letters for over a year, has recently learnt her number bonds to ten and is forever moaning at me for calling a colour blue when it's indigo. I also love the humour, my favourite line being from the Alphablock Numberblock crossover, when two of the letters try to emulate the numbers' way of adding by jumping on top of each other which results in T moaning "Tut, that's no way to make a number. Be rational!" to P and I.

I'm still discovering new things about them too, despite having seen them all many times. I've only realised why 3 is so narcissistic (because he's the same shape as I who is likewise). There's meant to be a competely new series being made and I'm really excited (more so than my dd)!

My daughter adores Nick Cope!

She sings Ralph is a rusty robot often.

We went to see him live and he's really exceptional, had all the adults laughing and all the kids entranced.

We loved him so much we have booked to see him again!

RazzberryGem · 16/04/2024 08:07

Bluey and Hey Duggee are top notch, some of the shows are a bit shit though for sure.
I detest Bing, that's got to be the worst by far.

Oh Bing just needs a good slap as my nana would say!

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 17/04/2024 07:12

I used to love Come Outside with Auntie Mable. My favourite episode was about 'useful holes' which always made me laugh. I loved Balamory and I Can Cook, with Katie and children cooking. It had a catchy song about washing your hands.

Londonrach1 · 17/04/2024 07:20

Biff and chil are amazing and love waffle. Moon and me is so boring but my dc loved it at 1. There's different shows for different ages. Ccbebbies grows with the child. Yabu.

LesserSpottedAlligator · 17/04/2024 07:37

DGD loved Sarah and Duck, but called it Sarah and Fuck. Which was bad enough, but always called my friend Sarah, Sarah and Fuck. Embarrassing when she saw her in the street and yelled to her 🤭

RedRobyn2021 · 17/04/2024 08:12

My daughter is 3 and we don't watch CBeebies but we do watch shows on iplayer

JoJo & Gran Gran, Alphablocks, Numberblocks and Bing - I think all of these are brilliant

We're on holiday and I let her watch 20 minutes of CBeebies, I watched with her and the utter tripe that came on, so I'm inclined to agree

There was a show about a talking dog called Waffle and it was so terrible

whee2y · 17/04/2024 08:25

Yeah CBeebies has steadily been going downhill for years.
I Remember the fimbles and Tweenies vividly
Anyone remember doodle do?
That was one of my favourites :)
Space pirates too!

whatsagoodusername · 17/04/2024 08:35

We love Sarah and Duck. It is part of our bedtime routine and it is watched faithfully every night, regardless of how late we are or what is going on.

DC are 12 and 13 and not watching it is inconceivable. It's lovely. They can recite word for word most of the episodes.

Loved Hey Duggee. I still hear the occasional Duggee episode or Numberblocks from the kid's iPads at breakfast (perfect length!).
