To think a lot of CBeebies is crap

cbeebiescrap · 15/04/2024 20:57

Yes I know I am not the target audience.

But Vida the vet seems to constantly be on.

I like go jetters and octonaughts but a bit too grown up for toddlers.

The clangers is boring shit.

What the hell is waffle and biff and chip

I don’t like bluey. I know. But I don’t.

Cbeebies land Alton towers is awesome
Loved watching my grandson enjoying the characters he loved watching the live shows
He proved to be a big fan of Cbeebies.

Yes!

My LO also likes dog squad and topsy and Tim but I CANT STAND TOPSY AND TIM

Oh, I hated Topsy and Tim. I expected to like it, but I absolutely could not.

PaddingtonsHat · 15/04/2024 21:51

Flashbacks of Baby Jake at something that felt like 5am…
Honestly Numberblocks has been bloody brilliant for my kids numeracy.
In the Night Garden probably the most surreal childrens programme ever.

feellikeanalien · 15/04/2024 21:51

DD is 16 and has SEN. She is still a fan of Balamory . We actually went to to Tobermory on holiday last year and had to visit all the houses and, much to her excitement, stayed in Josie Jump's house. She is also a big fan of Nina and the Neurons, Boj and Katie Morag. She actually learns a lot from Nina and is now interested in all things science and has a season ticket to Glasgow Science Centre.

She's not a current CBeebies watcher but watches most of the things she likes on YouTube and Amazon Prime.

I've never heard of some of the current programmes but do have vivid memories of Waybuloo and In the Night Garden. I'm quietly hoping those don't make a re-appearance.

Peter Rabbit was really funny so removed from the classic Beatrix Potter that I loved as a girl. My year 8 DD loved CBeebies Peter Rabbit, she had the characters, the treehouse, one Christmas I drove all the way to Tunbridge Wells Toy shop to purchase Tommy Brockett, it was click and collect and last of two packets they day before Christmas Eve so no delivery!

What a lovely mum you are!

You can go and see the Balamory houses?! I didn't know that was a thing! Thank you!

RaraRachael · 15/04/2024 21:56

My GS seems to particularly love In the Night Garden which, to me, is just a jumble of random stuff that makes no sense. I also don't know my Ninky Nonk from my Pinky. Ponk!

I can still remember the outrage from my two - now 33 and 30 - when Rosie and Jim was replaced by Tots TV. They hated it and refused to watch it.

89redballoons · 15/04/2024 21:56

We hardly ever watch it "live", but stream the episodes of various shows on our TV.

Mine are 2 and 4 and they like Grace's Amazing Machines and the Clangers and Postman Pat. Older one loves Octonauts, younger one loves Dipdap and Twirlywoos. None of those are truly awful, even if they're not necessarily my taste.

ButterflyKu · 15/04/2024 21:58

I’m not a fan of Bluey either OP. I can’t get into at all. I rather watch Bing tbh

cbeebiescrap · 15/04/2024 21:59

I like Octonaughts. I got really into one episode where they were rescuing a seal but my DS kept shouting at me to put Gecko’s Garage on!

They're not quite the same as in the programme, Edies's garage is now a rather yummy bakery and teashop and Susie and Penny's shop is an art gallery.

Josie Jump's house is a hotel and is still yellow. DD asked if she could go on to the balcony but sadly that is the owner's private flat. We did have the room directly blow it and DD was beyond excited.

My kids are older now, but I sometimes feel myself missing the CBeebies days! When my son was little, there was some show with Chris and Poy? Can’t remember its name but he loved the intro which was some counting thing!? Also The Lingo Show if anyone remembers that?
My daughter who’s 4 years younger liked Sarah and Duck, The Alpha Blocks and Abney and Teal.
Ahh the good old days. Better than the YouTube crap they watch now!

Springtimewingtime · 15/04/2024 22:14

Can't speak for what's on these days but we have very fond memories of Razzledazzle, Boogie Beebies and Me Too which were DC1's favourites (now 18!).

SprainedBum · 15/04/2024 22:19

Bluey you need to fully watch and take in. There are a lot of deeper messages that will go over kids heads. Sleepytime makes me cry like a baby every time.

Hey Duggee is wholesome and also has stuff that is just normal and accepted - happy the crocodile who is adopted into a family of elephants, Roly who msybr neurodivergent and/or has a learning disability, John and Nigel the gay crabs, the koala/wombat thing in a wheelchair - it demonstrates all kinds of differences without shouting about it. There are also various in jokes for parents too, and spoofs of various films/TV shows.

As for Peter Rabbit, he can get myxomatosis and go to hell, the obnoxious little twat.

You're thinking of Show Me, Show Me

This is the best episode of that 🤣

mynameiscalypso · 15/04/2024 22:24

Oh god, Show Me, Show Me. When DS was a baby/toddler it was on very early in the morning for a while so it reminds me of those dreaded few hours between 5-7 when you know you're going to be in for a very long day.

Fivebyfive2 · 15/04/2024 22:27

@SprainedBum my son is 4 and still loves hey Duggee, he's my little Roly- there's an episode where they're drawing and they other 4 do pictures you know what it is and he does a yellow scrawl and they all know it's a banana and say it's the best banana ever and it's so sweet! Also the pop culture references are next level - my dad loves the river badge because it's a takeaway off of apocalypse now 🤣

As well as that he loves Bluey, Waffle and Postman Pat. The original fireman Sam is on there too and he likes that. He's not a fan of "the blocks" but loves one zoo three and dog squad because he loves learning about animals. We tried Octanughts but he found it a bit too much (he hates anything scary/dramatic!)

My 5 year old is obsessed with dog squad, to the point where he's convinced he is an assistance dog and mainly barks at people (in his defense, he is quite severely autistic!)

babybythesea · 15/04/2024 22:34

My eldest loved Show Me Show Me. Ten worms wiggling waving hello! Show me show me some things to do. Lots of fun here for me and you.
And the toys. It was essentially an updated Playschool!

Mine are both teens now but I remember the morning panic:
“Bing’s on? We’ve got loads of time.”
”It’s Postman Pat - time to get dressed.”
”Is that the Octonauts theme tune? Shit - I’m not dressed and you haven’t eaten your breakfast - I’m going to be late for work..”
Better than any alarm clock - timing my morning by theme tunes!!

What a lovely mum you are!

It was all she wanted and I remember Amazon charging much more than the petrol was going to be 😂

HerculesMulligan · 15/04/2024 22:41

We love/d Show Me Show Me when DS9 was little. Some of the phrases are still catchphrases in our house - “show me, show me your groovy moves” and “eee-ii eee-ii, ‘ave to go ‘round”. We dug up old eps on YouTube when DD4 was the right age.

Yes my 17 year old DS loved Me Too.

Ha, us too. Oh my woolly word!

Caravaggiouch · 15/04/2024 22:50

I think Bluey is overrated too. Is Jo Jo and Gran Gran still on? DD used to love that.

takealettermsjones · 15/04/2024 22:56

I don't get the Bluey hype either. And Bing can get in the bin.

I like the one where they're all in a market and the girl sings "I've got an idea, I've got an idea, it just popped into my head I've got an idea..." and then two minutes later "oops, oh no..." 🤣
