To think a lot of CBeebies is crap

cbeebiescrap · 15/04/2024 20:57

Yes I know I am not the target audience.

But Vida the vet seems to constantly be on.

I like go jetters and octonaughts but a bit too grown up for toddlers.

The clangers is boring shit.

What the hell is waffle and biff and chip

I don’t like bluey. I know. But I don’t.

We went to see the Balamory houses; my DD was gutted that there was no pink castle, she had wanted to go and see where Archie lived.

I really don’t get what the hell Duggee is about 😂

YouTube the frog spawn episode.

Cbeebs is great.

Number blocks - start at series 1 on iPlayer and it teaches them to count to 5 then ten. By now we're doing multiplication and number patterns but it will seem a bit over their heads of you're watching series 6 at 1 year of age.

Alphablocks, Great for phonics so more for the 3 yo

Colour blocks, that's new. But does what it says.

Yakka Dee, great for learning words.

Hey Dugee, great fun, it's basically squirrels (the group before Beavers) and they always learn something.

Sarah and Duck is just cool.

Octonauts and Go Jetters is over their head for now but lots of fun creatures so they can still enjoy it.

Bluey is ace.

Waffle is, I agree, awful.
Biff and Chip, based on books they'll read in school and no worse than Topsy and Tim which are also school books.

Peter Rabbit is just a classic.

TheOnlyMooncat · 15/04/2024 23:16

Omg i hate cbeebies and it's only on in my house once a week 😂
I hate Hey Dugee, Waffle dog, Vida the Vet, Peter Rabbit and saw pinochio today and hate that too 😂
Also, I feel like theres some kind of subliminal vegetable messaging going on. Supertato, that one with the dinoveggies and I'm sure there's another I've forgotten 🥕🥦🥔
I need to get her onto Disney+

SalmonEile · 15/04/2024 23:21

there needs to be a “I don’t think Bluey is great” support group at this point

I’ve tried and I don’t see why every one is gushing over it

Is Hey Duggee still on?

I adore Hey Duggee

Hey Duggee is funny!

Mycollectionofdundies · 15/04/2024 23:30

We don't have television to watch anything live but we have a projector and can stream programmes. I just pick and choose stuff for my nearly 3 year old. He likes Amazing Machines, numberblocks, and Bob the Builder from iPlayer, as well as the Julia Donaldson animations and Wallace and Gromit.

I tried Bluey once because everyone raves about it but they were all shouting their heads off and my son asked to switch it off. Thank god as it was bursting my head open.

I do worry about the mixed messages. Put the "eat them to defeat them" alongside Supertato (I'd bloody love to roast him. Team Evil Pea) and the dinoveggies and that's some confused kids lol

It's hilarious

I would watch it without the DGC

It's educational without being smug

And it's very clever

I miss the weird liminal time of my life that belonged to Twirlywoos. But even that was a bit... mono? When my kid was small. Night Garden is terrible. Mine was obsessed with Team UmiZoomi when he was CBeebies age and I didn't hate it. (Except for the UK dub, yikes.) I couldn't pay him to watch CBeebies once he found that, and Yo Gabba Gabba, and Peg+Cat... He does like Bluey (older now) but that doesn't count, it's not a BBC original. Most of their stuff is grating - it feels like it's prepping kids for a lifetime of accepting mediocre UK telly. In our house when a drama is a bit shit we usually say 'it's a bit BBC' and make stink faces. It's the over-acting maybe? The Beeb seem to be on the lookout for adults who have the overwrought quality of child actors. In the kids' TV shows (Chris and Poi, or that pair in Let's Play, that stupid gardening man or Andy the dinosaur guy) but the adult stuff too. Maybe it's scripting or direction or something but there's this THING in beeb telly that's really recognisable once you've tasted it. I need a word for it.

Grumblevision · 16/04/2024 00:16

Oh Sarah and Duck was good, yes. I'd love to know the pedigree for that one.

VampireWeekday · 16/04/2024 00:24

I also don't get the Bluey love. But the clangers is wonderful, this is the hill I will die on. Wonderful!

Flubadubba · 16/04/2024 01:09

I have a soft spot for Waffle. And Molly and Mack..

EsmeT · 16/04/2024 02:09

Andy and the band, Tracy Beaker and Danny and Mic are my toddlers go to programmes!

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 16/04/2024 02:36

Fookintired · 15/04/2024 21:08

I'd say you were right there.
OP, I really couldn't stand it, thank God DS is at school now.
Even worse... when eldest was 2 she loved Mr Bloom and the vegetables (Mr Bloom's Nursery). Don't look it up, it will give you nightmares.

God, I so agree with you. "Meet The Veggies" song: Mr Bloom's leering "Hello my dear, haven't YOU grown?" to young Joan the Fennel. Dubious.

OP, sorry but I'm #teambluey all the way. 😊

Alex Drake · 16/04/2024 02:52

Ah this thread takes me back...my son is now 11 yrs.

I LOVED Marsha & the Bear is that still shown? Was great at little nods of adult humour.

FWIW, Bluey was a joint BBC commission with ABC.

RazzberryGem · 16/04/2024 08:07

Bluey and Hey Duggee are top notch, some of the shows are a bit shit though for sure.
I detest Bing, that's got to be the worst by far.

My DH is a big fan of Sarah and Duck. Just saying.

I love 'Sarah & Duck' , my kids have outgrown it a bit. I'll still try and put it on, more for me though. Lol

GoodnightAdeline · 16/04/2024 08:27

Maddie’s ’do you know’ is brill for kids 4+

TheBirdintheCave · 16/04/2024 08:38

If we really hate something then it goes on the 'we don't watch this' list and son (three) just deals with the fact that it doesn't go on the tv.

His favourite CBeebies is Peter Rabbit but we are SO saturated with it that he knows the rule is two episodes of that then we have to switch to something else.

We love: JoJo and Gran Gran, Kiri and Lou, Bluey, Duggee, Clangers, Sarah and Duck, Octonaughts and CBeebies Proms.

We like: Postman Pat, Grace's Amazing Machines and (original) Fireman Sam.

We tolerate: Musical Storyland, Peter Rabbit, Bob the Builder, Moon and Me, Roots and Fruits, Charlie and Lola, Bing, Go Jetters and Vida the Vet 😤

Banned: Supertato, Chuggington, RaRa the Noisy Lion and Vegesaurs.

The creator of Bluey used to work on Peppa, so was doubly inspired to give us all something better 🤣

Fivebyfive2 · 16/04/2024 09:54

My son loves Bluey and I like it too, but some of the smugness around the (adult) fanbase is unbearable. Ohh it's soooo much better than anything else, it's perfect etc.

My boy is 4 and his biggest take away from Bluey is going"weeeellllll" constantly and calling people grubs 🤣🤦 He never picked up anything like that from paw patrol - just saying.

Oh Bluey certainly has moments of ‘why have you put that on for kids??!’. My eldest spent last night saying ‘and why should I care’ like Unicorse. I love the show, and that episode is hilarious but my god I was gritting teeth 🤣.

blanketfortden · 16/04/2024 10:00

Toddlers are not supposed to be watching lots of TV, so the BBC doesn't provide lots of stuff that is addictive for them, being a mostly ethical organisation.

Things like Cocomelon that you find on other channels are not fun for toddlers to watch, just addictive and bad for their developing brains.

When your child gets to about 4, is when the BBC content comes into its own. JoJo and Gran Gran is great.
