I think I was only 5 when Diana died although I do this remember it
and I do remember the tsunami but again think I was fairly young but I do remember my grandparents having the news on watching it unfold.

John Lennon being shot dead.
Margaret Thatcher becoming prime minister.
9/11 - remember pretty well every detail of that day.
Diana's death.

Blueyparentsmychild · 13/04/2024 15:28

I stand corrected I wasn’t that young for the tsunami ( 13 )

i remember the news paper Madeline McCann
and then the Shannon Matthew story

but the one that sticks most despite me being young at the time was Holly and Jessica’s
I was a child and blonde and my best friend and brown hair and we always wore our united kits. I always remembered being spooked every time it came on the news.

John Lennon's murder - I'd just arrived at work, in an office, when it was announced.
Diana's death - I was at home, my dad rang me to tell me to put the news on.
Twin Towers - I was working as a carer, the client and I were watching tv and we thought at first it was the thought of a film.
The Queen's death - I was looking after my grandchildren.

needsomewarmsunshine · 13/04/2024 15:35

Death of Elvis on holiday in Devon, death of Princess Diana, woke up to hear the news on t.v. 911, had just dropped dc off at school and was walking across the playground when I overheard a mum saying a plane had gone in the World Trade centre. Came home put news on and saw the second crash live into tower.
Felt sickened beyond belief.

Patchworksack · 13/04/2024 15:36

Diana’s death - but more the aftermath because I was in Kenya and away from news coverage and came home to this mass hysteria about it.
9/11

needsomewarmsunshine · 13/04/2024 15:37

I can’t remember where I was for anything of significance. Place isn’t a category I remember particularly.

SpottedOnMN · 13/04/2024 15:43

Diana’s death because I was in a hotel room in Paris at the time
Buncefield because we were staying with family and my dad phoned me and woke me up to ask if we were ok as it was so close (found house damaged when we got home after the surreal experience of driving towards the fire in the sky)
9/11 as I just remember watching it all unfold on the TV here in my lounge

I was living in Eccles and was a student nurse when Manchester was bombed in 1996 my sister was in Manchester that say catching a train back to her university and were all Evacuated for a " controlled explosian"
It was a miracle nobody was seriously hurt !
As awful as this sounds it was the making of the Manchester City centre we have today, they were forced to rebuild it.

x2boys · 13/04/2024 15:52

When Diana died I was a newly qualified nurse on a late shift I had moved back to.my mum.and dad's, I remember my mum waking me up to tell me
And when it was 9/11 I was working nights so i had worked the night before and was asleep in bed and only heard about it when I was listening to the radio whilst I was getting ready for work.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/04/2024 15:52

Elvis's death - on kitchen radio my mum was listening to
Challenger exploding - in hairdresser's
Cumbria shootings - at work
Diana's death - watching French tv on holiday abroad
Kurt Cobain's suicide - in a bar abroad
9/11 - a friend who worked at the Beeb messaged me and I put the news on online at work. I didn't compute immediately that the time difference meant it was just happening.

I can remember exactly where I was when I heard about or saw these things happen.
