Prostitute checked into our hotel!

Ok, so away in London for a couple of days with DH and DD (10). We were staying in a 4* Hotel which is part of a large chain of hotels, not a small independent. We went to reception about 10.30 on the 2nd morning and was met with a lady (who was very obviously a prostitute) being told her room would be ready in 5 mins and her handing over £100 in cash to the receptionist. The hotel is £250+ a night and check in is 3pm!

AIBU to this this made the hotel feel a bit icky and sleazy after I saw that? Husband and I spoke briefly when DD wasn’t listening and he said “well they have to work somewhere!”. Not sure if I’m turning into a prude in my old age, but I really didn’t feel comfortable in the hotel after I saw that. I’m sure for her, it was a safe and comfortable place to work and I know this goes on in hotels, I suppose just seeing it in broad daylight shocked me a bit. We knew what she was there for, the receptionist knew what she was there for, the man behind us in the queue knew what she was there for, maybe I thought she and the hotel should have been a bit more discreet if they allow this to go on in their hotel, especially when it’s a family friendly hotel and there were a lot of children around?

Also prostitution related or not that hotel room will be covered in jizz regardless.

Howling 😂😂😂

HelloMiss · 13/04/2024 15:48

@greyonwhitesky don't be daft! 😂

The term 'sex worker' is used as it covers both men and women

Clutching pearls and objecting, how very mumsnet 😂

HelloMiss · 13/04/2024 15:48

'Away with your sneeering' 😂 😂 😂

She said - fifty bucks grandpa, for seventy-five, the wife can watch.

And breathed all over the glass counter.

🤣🤣 one of my favourite lines, ever.

Literally who cares who she was OP.

I think the word you’re looking for is sex worker not prostitute. Your wording is as archaic as your attitude. Would you rather she was having sex in a car down a back alley, where the risk is raised for her.

Yes! I actually think she would!

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 13/04/2024 15:50

I booked into a hotel with my DH for a night of fun- we had family over babysitting so it was an opportunity- picked a relatively expensive but definitely dodgy looking hotel in a seedy part of the city- next morning at breakfast there was family with a teen and a young child sat with them- all with a thousand yard stare.
i felt so bad for them. What were those parents thinking???

Anyway. YABU. DH is right they have to work somewhere and while I hate the sex industry is rather these women can work in a hotel which is clean and safe.

Paninaro94 · 13/04/2024 15:52

Hate to tell you but it’s probably happened in every hotel you’ve ever stayed in.

DreadPirateRobots · 13/04/2024 15:52

I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel that supports sex work

So all of them, then.

Lots of high end hotels have a "day use" offer for couples to use the spa and/or have some afternoon delight. Or for working girls to get some work done. Or people who just got in off a redeye. Who cares?

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 13/04/2024 15:52

Curious to know how she was obviously a prostitute?
Was she leaning/breathing on the desk, and saying "50 bucks, Grandpa, for 75 the wife can watch..." at you both?

Janetime · 13/04/2024 15:54

what am I reading, how were you so sure she was a prostitute do tell.

GingerIsBest · 13/04/2024 15:55

It's so funny how many things you don't know. She could have prepaid a deposit and the £100 was the remainder. She could have been moving rooms. Or upgrading.

Or she could be a prostitute paying a check in clerk to let her use a room on the sly.

So what? Does it affect you? No.

Babachew · 13/04/2024 15:57

Do you know what 5 star London hotels keep near reception?

Even Harrods has a basement full of sex toys.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 13/04/2024 15:57

She then exclaimed " well colour me happy, there's a sofa in here for two!" when the lift arrived.
Totally classless.

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 13/04/2024 15:59

Calm down pearl clutcher! Is she bothering you? No. She may be looking at you with her own thoughts...

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/04/2024 15:59

The woman may have had a big night out and decided she needed sleep rather than to try and get home. In which case she may have already done a drunken walk of shame from wherever she had been and had the courage to walk up to the hotel reception. Sounds sensible.

DojaPhat · 13/04/2024 15:59

This is a perfect example to use to teach your daughter the best life lesson: Minding your own business. So what to do with all your worry, concern and judgement?? Nothing. How do you move on in life having experienced this moment?? Nothing.

See, it's such a refreshing realisation when you understand that others in the world have their own lives which has absolutely nothing to do with yours.

Wishitsnows · 13/04/2024 16:00

Op are you sure you are not just annoyed she got a better rate than you if she only had to pay 100

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 13/04/2024 16:00

its a hotel, sex is going to come in all forms!

FoleyHuck · 13/04/2024 16:01

I used to work in a naice hotel and one Male guest dug a hole in one of the sofa seat cushions, filled it with shower gel and fucked it.

On balance everyone (housekeeping particularly) would rather he'd employed the services of a sex worker. The concierge could have pointed him in the right direction had he enquired.

It goes on OP. Everywhere and all the time. Although I'm intrigued as to how you were so certain based on the Woman's style of dress.

(As an aside, hotel day lets are common and booked for all sorts of reasons).

Marghogeth · 13/04/2024 16:03

What? Why the stare? Why did you feel bad?

You've missed some info here. Were they in the next room and were you banging up against the connecting door all night? Did you ride him into the breakfast room? Did you both come down naked and smeared in sweat and other... fluids?

Otherwise what are you on about?

WildFlowerBees · 13/04/2024 16:04

Sex workers operate in many many 'nice' hotels. It happens a lot.

Hecate01 · 13/04/2024 16:04

I think you need to check out dayuse.com. It's very popular for sex workers to book a room out for the day, I work in housekeeping and we have regular girls come in that we watch out for to make sure they are safe. You wouldn't even know if they are sex workers just by looking at them, they don't come in dressed in suspenders and knee high boots 🙄

Another reason which MN won't like is people use these rooms when they are having affairs, we can spot them a mile off because they act so shifty.

changeofusername · 13/04/2024 16:04

Describe what she was wearing so we can all judge her?

Honestly, it's pretty hot in London today and I've seen plenty of women walking around with revealing clothes just in the park ... I couldn't tell if any were working

London is the place that anyone can wear anything and it's not that unusual... a small village perhaps you'd have a clearer picture by dress of what someone is up to but London ... fuck knows how you'd tell
