Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

You and me both, I’m depressed anyway (various issues including health worries) and this weather is nit helping. I find the biting wind the most difficult to deal with and I’m only in london, not on a moor somewhere!

@peakygold

why? You must have quite a limited life if that has made your day

i want a heat wave

manifesting this for happy horses and horse owners

Agree. I am not a horse owner, but have several friends who are, and I LOVE horses. 🐴 Beautiful, graceful, gentle, amazing souls they really are. And my 'horsey' type friends are lovely people. 😍

I live in a little village and have quite a few fields around me, and there are many horses to look at, talk to, and make a fuss of! They make me feel all warm and happy inside when I look at them. They bolt up the field when they see me. I love them! Grin

derxa · 09/04/2024 12:38

Have a thought for our lambs standing out in this all day. It makes problems like joint ill proliferate

olivehaters · 09/04/2024 12:39

Finding it hard but force myself and the kids to do stuff anyway and always happy after I have. Did a massive three hour walk in the rain with the kids on the back holiday. My eldest even carried on some more with his dad. Try and get out a little bit every day. There is normally a gap in the weather at some point.

Blah12345678999 · 09/04/2024 12:40

Omg I totally get you OP! It just feels like the weather is struggling to get any kind of consistent sunshine, pleasant temperature! I also find there is no consistency with the weather here and there’s 4 seasons in one day far too often. I don’t know if I’m struggling with it more as I get older but I have started seriously considering looking to Dubai as a living option… And not just for the weather either!

cliovillee · 09/04/2024 12:19

The toxic positivity types are worse than the weather. As are the "be grateful you don't have more to worry about, X person is DYING".

Without wanting to be callous, someone's always dying. Someone ALWAYS has it worse than you do. It doesn't mean you can't ever complain or you're not aware of that.

Also if everyone was only ever grateful for what they have all the time how would progress ever happen?!

Oakstreet · 09/04/2024 12:44

ByUmberViewer · 08/04/2024 18:35

I agree with you OP.

You are going to get loads of people come on here now say "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing". But we all know we can wear a mac for walking from the car to the door in the rain. It's all the other stuff we can't do that makes it depressing.

Global warming I think is to blame. We are having more "monsoon" like seasons, where we have a hot summer and a rainy rest of the year.

Yeah it was boiling last summer 🤣🙄,maybe 1 week in September, a few hot days in June, and alot of rain for the rest.

adviceneeded1990 · 09/04/2024 12:44

NoisySnail · 09/04/2024 12:33

@adviceneeded1990 So you are just walking along pavements and paths? If not how do you cope with the mud? Do you not get fed up of constantly washing the dog before it comes inside again?
Everything is water logged here. Today is typical. Grey skies, wind, and intermittent rain.

We do a mixture of paved walks and forest trails etc, we also live beside a nature reserve and ten mins from beach. These things do annoy me like cleaning dog, trying to get wet clothes dry, but for me they annoy me less than being stuck inside. Not everyone will feel like that though.

IsThePopeCatholic · 09/04/2024 12:44

Apparently, there is likely to be a hosepipe ban this summer even though it has rained so much. The water companies are not storing the water properly. 😡So, not even a silver lining.

willWillSmithsmith · 09/04/2024 12:45

SabreIsMyFave · 09/04/2024 12:27

Exactly. It's daft! Just because people are pissed off with the weather (and I genuinely believe everyone is, and don't believe anyone who says they're not,) that doesn't mean they don't care about sick, or dying people, and the wars going on around the world.

People spouting this kind of shit is so pathetic and tedious. I have never known it actually come out of anyone's mouth in real life. If someone said something like this to me (in person,) they would get a bloody short shrift from me, and a few not-so-nice 4 letter words. I have got ZERO tolerance for nonsense like this.

These are the same people who say stuff like 'at least you have GOT a mother' when a poster says they are having big problems with a toxic mother.

The thing is they would never say this to people in real life. They’d nod along to a friend or neighbour and agree about the awful weather. Why? Because they know in real life it would be deemed obnoxious if they responded the way they do on here.

Gymnoob · 09/04/2024 12:45

If it makes you feel any better I’m a gardener and also been perpetually ill this year. It’s been a bad winter for bugs!

But you really should go outside. Even if it’s undercover just to get fresh air. The headaches and grogginess I get if I don’t go out every hour or so is unreal. We are designed to be outside. Cold or warm. Luckily at home I have a porch and just sit there for a cuppa and mumsnet for 10 mins every few hours. Currently there. It’s spitting and cold. But my head feels clear, my eyes have remoisturised.

Try it out.

I have not seen ANYONE say they never go out FGS. 'Try it out..' Could you be actually BE more patronising? 🙄

I just don’t know who moaning about it helps? If it genuinely makes you feel better then that’s fine. But personally I always feel more negative and worse if I’m complaining.

You’re doing it wrong then 😁

RanSolar · 09/04/2024 10:23

We are all “allowed” to swear, but it’s mostly ugly and unnecessary- and it’s not compulsory.

Stop swearing, stop WHINING about the shitty weather. Are you listening ladies?? Why can't you just all #BEKIND? 😆

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 09/04/2024 12:50

I always think there's a big divide depending on where you live - I'm in Scotland but we were in London over Easter and honestly the difference was unbelievable. Even on a "cold" or "drizzly" London day it was still warm enough to sit outside in the playpark with the kids for a bit.

Also the people posting "helpful solutions" are clearly being obtuse aren't they? I mean we have a tumble dryer, decent shoes and coats and are fortunate enough to have a bit of a budget for indoor activities, and live in a city with a few free museums etc. But it's still miserable entertaining young kids throughout 2 weeks of Easter holidays where it has rained heavily every single day bar 2. And on one of those days there was an amber wind warning and the adventure playground we'd planned to go to closed. I mean I'm not a total wimp, we obviously still go out in the rain, but bike rides, days in the park, the zoo, walks along the beach are all much more fun without rain, floods and wind warnings? Or having to carry armfuls of raincoats round the museum that every other family has descended upon to avoid the rain!

😂😂 I must be! I do hear people say a good rant makes them feel better! My husband is a very pessimistic, worries if the sun will rise type, so I think I’m always the eternal optimist to balance us out!

Edited

Major overreaction 🤣

I haven’t read the whole thread as there’s a million pages but in the first couple I did read - yes there’s a poster who’s saying they haven’t been out since February.

Sure I’m not saying they have not gone outside AT ALL. But I also don’t believe 90% of this thread are getting ten minutes outside every hour or so. For some that would take a lot of effort if they lived in flats without balcony and for others it’s something they probably never considered.

I don’t know why you’re so upset. There’s probably very few posters on here who spend more time outside than in. I’m one of them and so I’m throwing in my two cents that yes indoors does make you feel shit. Most people are so used to it they probably have no idea. 🤣

mirtyy · 09/04/2024 12:55

I totally agree OP. We live in rural somerset where it has flooded constantly and DD school has shut 7 times since Sep.
We are on hol in Devon at the mo and our caravan was rocking with the wind so much last night the bed with both me and DH was shifting along the floor.
Two years ago the same school hol, we were slapping on the sun screen.
We moved back from abroad and I regret it so so much, we will look again at moving abroad (both teachers).

Nannyfannybanny · 09/04/2024 12:57

We collected the puppy in September, but we visited the litter regularly, first seeing her at 2 weeks old, farm in Surrey, near where we used to live (there I might add,we frequently had low mist which would last until midday) we chatted and had videos, farmer was complaining about lack of rain
Dr Hannah Roke, water expert Reading University, says low water levels during dry spells in the UK are concerning.

WaltzingWaters · 09/04/2024 12:57

Yep. This rain is really boring now! I don’t mind a bit now and then, and will still take Ds out for a drizzly walk. But non-stop rain with loads of wind is just miserable.

My partner also has a business that relies on decent weather. He’s not been able to open business at all yet this season.

susansaucepan · 09/04/2024 10:36

My Solutions :

  1. I got a tumble dryer . No more wet clothes everywhere and no mould and mildew .

  2. Got a nice warm coat , not a flimsy fashion coat . This included trading my pretty wool peacoats for long sensible rain proof coats with hoods and zips .

  3. Got decent leather boots so that my feet are toasty all year round and I don't have to walk around in soggy trainers . Avoid suede boots they are a nightmare to keep clean in the rain .

  4. don't worry about going out everyday, we have indoor days , shopping mall days , soft play / trampoline centre days . But atleast couple times a week we go out in nature to local parks , nature parks , woods etc

  5. if need be just drive everywhere but anything is better than being stuck indoors by yourself or with young kids.

I like being indoors 🤷‍♀️

RedDuffle · 09/04/2024 12:57

I hear you OP.

I have an allotment and was hoping to do better this year (after being on maternity leave and unable to go much last year) but between work, baby and the weather have not had many chances to go at all yet to get it started off for the year.

We went away with DP's family last week for a few days and the weather was just grim. One day started with drizzle and then just got colder and windier until we ended up giving up and going back to our hotel. The other days were cold and grey.

I don't mind so much when I'm working as I quite enjoy the sound of the rain while I'm indoors, but it really hampers being able to take my baby out and about for anything fun.

I understand it's only April so hopefully things will improve, but they didn't last year really 🙈
