Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

I’m in Australia, and it’s raining here too. Days of constant low level drizzle that makes roads and paths dangerous.

I am also in Oz (Perth) and we have only had 21.8 mm of rain since October, the lowest on record. I can't say I've missed the UK rain, especially after reading this thread.

Ihateslugs · 09/04/2024 11:27

Well, it’s pouring down here again, south Manchester, my back garden is flooded and I need to have the lights on as it’s so gloomy! My heating has gone off so it must be over 19 degrees in the house but it does not feel it and I might have to put it on higher this afternoon when I sit down - currently doing some baking so got the oven on!

Coldupnorth87 · 09/04/2024 11:28

Woken up to water coming in through the back windows...puddles everywhere.

But to be fair, it's been Spring and Summer in Australia! And whilst we are pretty much all sick of the rain over here, it's has been mostly Autumn and Winter that we have had it. Your sunny, dry/hardly any rain past 6 months has been Spring and Summer where you are. The two situations are incomparable.

And we do often get nice Springs. And sometimes get nice Summers. I would say 1 in 3 Summers are a bit shit, 1 in 3 are OK (50-50 sun and drizzle,) and 1 in 3 are great.

Anyway, despite the shitty weather over the past 6 months, I would take living in the UK over Australia any day of the week.

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

We used to have a horse and I’m so glad we don’t anymore with the weather. Our back garden is poached enough with 3 dogs, dread to think what the fields are like, feel for horse owners in the current climate 🤦‍♀️

Yesimtheproblemitsme · 09/04/2024 11:44

I’m with you OP. I’m a gardener in Cumbria. The weather has caused loads of issues- I’ve been altering drainage to stop houses flooding for months. Currently sat at home waiting for my house to flood again 😑😑😑

My 4 year old despises soft play and I’m sick of mud in my house. I’m too skint to fly anywhere sunny 🙄

fightingthedogforadonut · 09/04/2024 11:44

I think Climate Change has made most people forget what British weather is meant to be like... it was always normal to have changeable, windy, rainy weather in March and April. And it's better for a lot of our native flora and fauna. Seasons have been so mixed up in recent years....

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/04/2024 11:47

@Nannyfannybanny

We got a puppy last year born on 1st July,we had rain in September she didn't want to go out in the garden,it freaked her out because she hadn't seen it.

The fact that your puppy freaked at the rain doesn't necessarily mean she hadn't seen it before though . (And if she was born 1st July you shouldn't have taken her home with you until the end of August). My dog is 7 and still sits under a bush and cries if I drag him out in the rain.

The only thing I hate about this weather is the whining about it. I mean it's not ideal weather, but for Pete's sake get over it and get on with it.
My husband constantly whins about the poxy weather and I ignore him until he changes the subject.
There's enough stuff that bothers me in life that I can work towards changing for the better without whining about something like the weather that I can't do anything about. Its such a waste of energy and headspace.

shhhh just let people have their say...

DopeyS · 09/04/2024 11:48

I have all the kit for walking in the rain. But it's still all a bit miserable. I also work outdoors about 50% of the time and was on site a few weeks ago. I was wearing my waterproofs (including over trousers) and was still wet through to my knickers. My dog on walks is absolutely miserable. I did a walk on Friday as I had some TOIL and so did a longer one. It rained a bit and then was sunny. It was lovely in the sun but I was so worried about slipping over because it was horrendously muddy so I spent a lot of the walk watching where my feet went and worrying about injuring myself.

menopause59 · 09/04/2024 11:51

I am in the northwest and I don't think we have had 1 dry day since Christmas even over Easter it was sunny went for a walk it went grey and lashed it down unexpectedly, so we were soaked.

And you are right it's bloody depressing.

Everything is damp and grimy in the U.K.
Dog shit everywhere
Human shit in the rivers and sea
Litter all over the place
Run down
its crap

Whereabouts do you live? I don't recognise that description of my part of the UK.

This amount of rain is not normal. I am getting on a bit and this is the worst weather in terms of rainfall that I have known for a long time.

suki1964 · 09/04/2024 11:55

Ive just lit the fire , its blowing a hooley out there, cant even open the back door the wind is that strong and its lashing it. Think Kathleen is doing a return visit only this time she has brought the cold air with her

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/04/2024 11:55

Could I also add that a lot of the 'solutions' proposed by posters such as tumble dryers, proper waterproof coats and leather boots, and indoor sports are quite expensive and beyond a lot of people's means?

peakygold · 09/04/2024 11:51

Well aren’t you a treat.
Yes, everybody who has a horse is exactly the same. I’ve often noticed it. Down here in the New Forest with a huge community of horse owners you can barely tell one of us from another. It’s a big problem.

AliasGrape · 09/04/2024 11:57

It's miserable isn't it? Also in South Manchester area and it's particularly grim today. Our tiny little garden is like an actual bog at this point, and yes I long to be able to dry washing outside - there was one afternoon so far I managed it, but when I got cocky and tried the next day I inevitably ended up having to dash out and fetch it all in due to downpours.

I'm sorry to the pp who doesn't like the whining about it, but all I want to do at the moment is bloody whine about it. It's really affected my mood, far more so than I can remember in previous years. I'm used to rain, always had dogs to walk in the past although we lost our boy a few years ago, and as an Early Years teacher for many years was a big proponent of just having the 'right clothes' and getting out there anyway. But this year I'm just sick of it and utterly fed up.

I'm sick of trying to find ways to entertain 3 year old DD, sick of her clothes/ coats/ boots (and mine) being constantly covered in mud and having to clean them all the time, plus it inevitably getting traipsed through the house. Or we end up spending a fortune looking for indoor fun. These Easter holidays have been pretty miserable honestly. Even the playground bit of the parks are just kind of covered in a layer of filth due to the constant rain. I put a brave face on it and make out how jolly it all is to jump in the puddles and throw sticks in the fast-running stream etc but even DD is getting a bit over it all now and asks if we can go to the soft play instead.

It’s nearly mid April 😭. I have SAD and I literally have to take medication just to get through 6 months of the year. Half my life of misery! I’m still having to use my SAD lamp every day too.

I do have to get out in it twice a day because I have a Labrador but there’s a huge difference between popping your trainers on, grabbing some poo bags and heading out for a sunny walk through the fields and finding your coat, wellies, hat and gloves, trudging through fields so muddy that you feel like you’re walking up a mountain and then having to wipe the dog, the floor and the walls every time you get home.

DS has also just taken up golf and most days I get an email to say the course is closed, so that’s another day in the Easter holidays that he’s sat at home doing nothing (I’m working).

The wind sounds awful today too 😭😭😭.

I feel your pain! 😔 I have SAD too and I am on meds, have the special light bulbs in all rooms and I'm now taking extra meds to try and help! Nothings really helping and I spend most days feeling like a zombie as so dosed up! Need the natural light to boost our vitamin d levels xx

Totally and utterly agree.

I love a good moany post OP, makes me feel so much better. What I don't enjoy is all the toxic positivity they also invoke. Its rainy and miserable out there, let's not pretend otherwise.

Totally agree. I hate this attitude where you can’t ever have a moan about something. Sometimes you just want to complain!! I’d like to add ‘toxic positivity’ to the list of complaints I have. Bloody hate it. 😁

Elebag · 09/04/2024 12:04

corinth the 10k might be a random number but it's enough to keep fairly healthy. Able bodied people need to walk more to keep fit. I walk most places, it's not fun, I hate this weather but in the long term it does me good. Better to be rained on now than be ill in my 50's.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/04/2024 12:04

I like a moany post too. I don’t want to walk round in puddle suits and wellies.

l want to sit in my garden and hang washing out. Throwing it down again here and the weather still looks shit for the next 10 days.

Quite a few parks as well which have not been tarmacked properly those paths are flooded

A park near us has a large lake which has been flooded for weeks if not months...
That means half the paths are ankle deep with water and the surrounding grass is like a swamp or bog.
It's happened on this scale once before that I remember (possibly 2013) but it doesn't flood on this level regularly.
