Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

Another grey and windy day in Bristol today.

I want to, but my wheelchair isn't waterproof and the rain would mess up the battery. If I get wet, I get ill. Not all of us can just go out.

@WalkingonWheels that sounds tough. Must be hugely frustrating when you can't go out even if you want to

Ill and fat? Speak for yourself

I'm out in all weathers every day and I'm fit and healthy and I've never been fat.

Instead of moaning, but wet weather gear and get outside and get moving.

Smug.

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

Couldn't agree more! My field is full of mud and the horses are covered in mud.
Spring should be the reward to horse owners for getting through a tough winter.
I'm dreaming of rolled fields, clean horses and evening hacks in the sunshine

Fizbosshoes · 09/04/2024 08:13

I'm a bit Hmm when people are denying the weathers been shit when it's not just people "feel" it's been gloomy - several have stated more than a months average rain in a week and the wettest period for over 100 years! It's not made up or people whinging for the sake of it!

And people saying get outside anyway - lots of people are due to necessity or just because its boring to stay in ....but you can't run or play sport in wellies and a mac! DS is going to a sports camp this week. He'll likely get soaked today. He'll get over it but it will be pretty unenjoyable to go and get soaked 4 days in a row. Plus we'll need to dry out his trainers to wear again tomorrow. (My own running trainers are stinking out the porch because they are constantly damp)

And that's just optional fun stuff, lots of people rely on people being out and about for their livelihoods or farms etc need some dry weather and sun for crops.

What a load of old tosh. Some people do have small worlds (so what? you might have one some day due to illness, injury, circumstances etc) and some people have busy or outdoorsy lives. The rain really has been THAT bad this winter. Relentless and much of the UK land is wrecked. Not many people get pissed off with some rain in Winter in the UK. It's to be expected but its been something quite different this time.

PollyPeachum · 09/04/2024 08:14

@NeedToChangeName , Yes you are right. I tried to Google for a photograph showing the backs of a row of terraced with stark white snow and icicles. Last year of WW2 I think. Dad had a collection of Picture Post and similar.

No idea where you live, but here in the SE UK,it was 18c today, shorts and t shirt.

SE here too and if I had seen you out and about I would have been thinking that you were one of those ridiculous people that as soon as the temp goes up slightly, the arms and legs come out! It’s April - not late spring, Summer.

It didn't last I ut washing out and within a couple of hours it started raining

I guess when the summer haters start their moaning, we can tell them that there is no such thing as bad weather and they just have an attitude and clothes problem.

I want to be sitting outside in the sun reading, eating food with friends in a pub garden and going for picnics etc. I don't think any type of clothing would currently make those activities fun to do in this weather.

I agree. I actually like rain and find it refreshing but even I am bloody sick of it now- it's been relentless. I crave some sun and it really affects my mental health. Its not wrong or bad to want to feel the sun on your skin and to be able to do outdoor activities without getting drenched to the bone and covered in mud FGS.

Gosh. What is it like to be so smug?
My "waterproof" jacket got soaked through in a downpour last July and I ended up nipping into Seasalt to buy a new one.

It’s not actually that smug. You can buy a better, breathable waterproof for the price you pay for a seasalt one.

I AM a summer hater (well, in the sense that I find anything upwards of 25c too hot), and I'm telling you the weather at the moment is horrible even from my perspective. I like a lovely crisp cold day, not endless mild grey windy drizzle.

Be perfectly happy with 20 degrees and dry right now!

It's blowing a gale here this morning. Rain is hurling itself at the window. All I can see on bbc weather for the next 2 weeks is a mixture of 1 and 2 rain drop clouds. Think there are 2 days with sunny showers.

BBC has been called out for being pessimistic with the forecasts (which can actually affect businesses, especially in tourist areas). In our area, BBC was showing rain for the whole of last week. Other than a few showers and rain in the evenings, we were out every day. If you look closely, it often says rain but its not until the evening. Definately not the app to use for accurate weather.

Another one that belongs in the smug pile.

It’s not all about frolicking in the rain. Sometimes it’s about the damage it can do to your property or your crops. It can be about flooded roads and thick mushy mud up to your ankles that you don’t want to walk through. It can be about how it affects your mental health and mood.

What is it about people who think they’re something special because to them relentless bad weather is just a state of mind.

gannett · 09/04/2024 08:21

God the "just put on waterproofs and Get Out There" brigade are insufferable.

I don't mind being inside. Yet sadly life does necessitate me leaving the house at times, including exercise. What I mind is that every single bloody second of being outside is deeply unpleasant. What I miss is enjoying being outside.

Mummyratbag · 09/04/2024 08:22

I presume those who say it's not that bad are not living on the west coast where the Atlantic is seemingly dumped on a continuous regular basis.
The fields are drenched here and the run off floods the country roads, the crap that comes with it causes potholes of which we have many now.
Last night as I posted further up we had howling winds just to add to the fun. A local river has burst it's banks and the beach huts at Falmouth have been washed away.
For the poster saying it could be worse ...didn't we just lose hundreds of thousands of people in a pandemic? It seems a low bar ... "at least we don't have..* *mmmm checks notes... the Black Death"

If you are a teacher I can totally see why people don’t appreciate you.

Meadowfinch · 09/04/2024 08:24

Since the clocks went forward, I've been running three times in a week, and spent a day in the garden. I feel so much better.

The evenings are light, our heating is off, although still using the log burner for damp evenings.

You're nearly there OP. Hang on another week or so. 🙂

BatteryPoweredPeacock · 09/04/2024 08:24

I love walking and take the dog out at least twice a day, every day - regardless of weather. My wardrobe looks like an outdoors hiking shop, I have so many clothes to cope with all weathers.

Anyone trying to say walking in the wet with the right clothes on is anywhere near as nice as a warm, dry, clear walk is having a laugh. It's just not. The most breathable cold/wet weather gear still gets sweaty and is, inevitably, bulkier than clothes for fine weather. The most waterproof walking boots still eventually let water in - I've never found a pair that can cope with long, wet grass or constant liquid mud - so that means walking in something rubbery to be really water proof. Even then, slipping in mud is far tricker and less preferable than good grip on dry ground.

Getting back home means a half hour clear up job, drying the dog, cleaning my shoes, getting all the gear off and drying it out.

I do the wet weather walking, I live in the UK and mostly just get on with it. But these last two winters - this one especially - have been a bloody nightmare.

And that's not to even start on the garden.... I love gardening but haven't not been able to start on the garden (pun int.) because walking on the sodden ground is too damaging to it and gardening in wet mud is a pita.

All this rain but the thieving bastard water companies will still say we need a fucking hosepipe ban in June!
