The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

That's because the thieving bastards haven't built one single reservoir since privatisation.

Thats funny as there’s one being built in Hampshire……….

Hmmmm, would really love to see some evidence of that.

Well, just type “reservoir” “residents” “Abington” into Google and you’ll find plenty.

Well that will be the first. And it's only taken them 35 years.....

Whoop whoop keep posting anything that proves you’re doing better in the micro climate that is Bristol 😎

Well I was visiting Bristol on Sunday and it was windy as heck, and drizzly. Not fun. Local fields ankle deep in mud.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 09/04/2024 01:06

I've voted YANBU as it's absolutely pissing it down here, so much so the path outside resembles a river after only an hour of torrential rain 😳
Seems to be none stop rain lately, apart from one day that was nice and sunny and then that was it, that was our lot.
Doesn't help we've found out we've got a leaky roof dripping, FFS 😭

I've read several and and your very select googling will only show what you want.
Try this wider view that certainly doesn't support your assertion that residents are to blame for reservoirs not being built.

Lake or mistake? The row over water firms, drought and Abingdon’s new super-reservoir

A proposal for 150bn litres of storage in Oxfordshire is mired in controversy and distrust of a privatised water industry

Yes, it's shit.

I've been through many winters and this one seems to have been exceptionally, dark, damp and miserable.

I miss the sun, come back please.

Me too - I can’t get to sleep because of the wind and rain, and I think something just hit our upstairs window… I dread to think what I’ll see in the morning, it must be blowing from the sea as I don’t remember hearing so much noise before. We live in well insulated house that has thick walls and small windows.. but it still sounds as if they are going to blow in!

Our dog was straight back in after his evening wee, even he looked shocked 😂

It's a hella chunky wind! Granted I'm always awake at this time but still. The lights keep flickering too & I hate power cuts cos I'm a massive baby 😭

Much of the article is discussing stuff that relates to the way in which the planning system and residents’ vetoes make it really hard to build stuff in the UK.

I’m honestly not trying to defend the water companies as being marvelous organizations - they are not and they do bear a lot of the blame for the current mess.

But building reservoirs is going to be hard unless the UK starts having honest conversations about how NIMBYism and the current state of planning laws is making construction of infrastructure incredibly hard.

Bet a lot of the people who bought dogs in lockdown are currently regretting it. Muddy wet dog smell all over the house permanently sounds indescribably grim.

Topsyturvy78 · 09/04/2024 01:49

Growing up watching neighbours and home and away I always wanted to live in Australia. But honestly I don't think I could handle the constant heat as well as the wild fires and water shortages they have with no rain for months.

Also my children have SEN and a health condition. So highly likely we wouldn't get a visa. They see them as a burden. As well as the Aborigines are treated appallingly.

echt · 09/04/2024 02:16

But honestly I don't think I could handle the constant heat as well as the wild fires and water shortages they have with no rain for months the heat is not constant, nor are the wildfires, nor is "Australia" without rain for months and months. It is huge, a continent, so there are great variations.

Just wait for the hot weather, the moaners will be out saying can't wait until Autumn.

I don't mind the rain, but I hate hot weather.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 09/04/2024 02:31

I just got gas heating bill and double the usage from last year as usually do not have the heat on this time of year. Sick of shitty rain also and the mud. Haven't felt much like walking either but underactive thyroid and my energy zapped. March had so much rain. Need something to get me motivated.

AStepAtaTime · 09/04/2024 02:34

I totally hear you. Here I am at 2.30am in the fucking morning coughing my guts up with a chest infection, the worst I’ve ever had. Thankfully I’ve just started a course of antibiotics so I can feel them starting to work already but omg I’ve not felt this poorly for ages and I’ve been inside my house it feels for so long. I did go for a walk in the park last week but whilst I was there the wind suddenly turned arctic and I felt like we were back in January again. It triggered such a bad coughing fit I had to hurry home and came down with this a day later. Dreadful

I don’t know if they’re regretting it but I am. If I go into my local coffee shop - and all but costa allow dogs in my area - there’s wet dogs in there shaking rain off their fur and stinking the place up. I can smell wet dog as soon as I step inside the cafe. Hence I haven’t been to a local coffee shop for months 😆 at least I’ve saved some money!

My polytunnel loved scarpering yesterday. I can see it 2 houses up, but can't be arsed knocking -

Please Mister, can I have my polytunnel back please?

I'm lucky enough (!) to be disabled, so on the few nice bits of sunshine we have had I can shuffle in to the garden. It is a bit hokey cokey though. No shaking, I'd fall over.

We've all heard the lack of time excuse
We then heard the cost of healthy food excuse
Now we have the it's a bit wet out excuse....... sheesh
When are we going to admit I'm a lazy b and that is why I'm fed up and fat.

I see the thread has taken a shitty judgy turn. Hmm

Edited

Exactly , some people have zero empathy for the many valid reasons people have for struggling to lose weight or keep fit.

And it’s a fact for me and many others we are healthier, more active and happier in good weather.

I can almost guarantee I’ll come back from my ten day holiday in the sun at least a few pounds lighter.

I long to live somewhere warm and sunny . My mood is so affected by the weather. I'm convinced I'd be in better shape too. ...find it much easier to eat healthily and exercise in nice weather.

Yep, the more I read this thread the more I’m seriously thinking about putting plans in place to relocate at least for a few years and I can see how it goes.

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

I get this, I have 3! I feel for them and I'm sick of this bloody weather!!

Blackcats7 · 09/04/2024 03:13

@KoolKookaburra for a genuine horse person that is rather like suggesting I get rid of my child because they are a pain in the arse.

The cloud is so thick it feels as if the sky will hit your head when you step outdoors. I'm keeping up with my Vit D, the sun hasn't given me any.

First World Problem alert....My Easter week off was a constant dash between greenhouse, garage and house, dismal. Why was I so stupid to believe that a week off at Easter would be good to start the gardening season - it's never been so miserable! I made progress in spite of the weather.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 09/04/2024 05:03

I’m fat because I over eat and ill because I have a chronic condition. I’m still getting out and walking every day with the dogs thanks. You may be ill and fat because of the rain but don’t go assuming the rest of us don’t like exercise.
