Reporting someone about having no TV LIcence?

WhiteDragon66 · 06/04/2024 21:39

At the moment I am living in an HMO. I have lived here for coming up to three years now.
I have a licence. However I have noticed that two of the residents within the household have been receiving letters from TV LIcensing for quite a long time now.
There are six of us all together living here. I think that I am the only one who is licensed though?
Would I be right in reporting just these two individuals, do you think, or should I just simply ignore this??
Any feedback would be really very helpful. Thank you.

Your OP doesn't even make sense! If they are receiving letters then the licencing people already know they dont have one.
Mind your own business!

It would be a very mean, pointless thing to do. Focus on something else

No it didn't. At all.

it demonstrated that women are disproportionately effected, it didn't demonstrate that women are targeted.

Do you not understand how society works?

Do you not realise correlation is very different to causation?.

And what targeted means?

And what sexism means.

Please, please explain how you think what you said provides evidence that women are targeted by TV licencing prosecutions and how that is evidence of sexism because it isn't.

And I didn't claim that the BBC or the government would solve it or be particularly invested in doing so, just that they identified it was a complex issue which really isn't about what you're saying which is a nonsense idea that the BBC licencing system is deliberately targeting women because of sexism against women

That's just daft and apparently that's what you think?

But please provide me with evidence that the TV licencing system is targeting women because it isn't.

It doesn't GAF about who is fined, they just care about the money.

Actually given women take on the greater burden of caring work, and are therefore more likely to be working part time and at home during the day, the inspectors going round during the day are targeting women and disabled people

That doesn't necesarrily mean that they are deliberately targetting women and disabled people but it could be seen as indirect discrimination.

Moreover one of the other reasons cited for more women being prosecuted is because apparently when men do answer the door they are more likely to direct the inspector to their female partner to answer the questions, and then she ends up being prosecuted, even when a man lives there, also watches televison and therefore has an equal responsibility to ensure the licence is brought.

I’m wondering if I should cancel my TVL now!

I was told when I didn’t pay it, that if I had any devices that could access BBCiplayer (even if I didn’t watch it or have the app downloaded?) I would have to pay.

Its certainly outdated and perhaps the BBC should use advertising and sponsorship to fund themselves or lock it down and offer a pay to view subscription like every other tv platform.

If you don't watch any live tv just cancel it and save yourself money. Just don't answer the door to anyone claiming to be from tv licensing, they have no legal authority and are not police. You don't have to let them in and if you do answer the door by accident just stay silent and close it.

I’m hoping it’s a TV Licensing market research bot and they’ll use this feedback to scrap the TVL entirely!
