Fedup with scratching and the treatments haven't worked so while I was hoovering the house I got so annoyed I held it to my head it felt really good 😂
Everyone else thinks it's very weird.

Did it work? Get your straightners out. Fry them

Seashor · 04/04/2024 13:01

I agree, straightners.

LameBorzoi · 04/04/2024 13:03

Yep, straighteners. And conditioner and lice comb. Comb, comb, comb.

EauNeu · 04/04/2024 13:03

Are you sure you still have nits? I felt like I had them for ages after theyd gone but my scalp was just irritated. Antihistamines helped

Dinnerlady12 · 04/04/2024 13:05

NitWits spray

NitWits spray

Best product name, ever.😋

I cleared it out of the kids and they came back and I'm sure it's me giving them back. We all have really thick curly hair and this is a nightmare 😫

You're not unreasonable because itching is a horrible thing and people will do extreme things for relief. I have eczema and I don't even want to share some of the stuff I've tried 😂

But I'd recommend trying the treatment again and just ignoring the time it tell you to leave it in for. I tried the 20 minute one and I was still combing live ones out of my children's hair an hour and a half later. Put it in overnight with a shower cap on and they will all be dead in the morning.

Oh same. Mixed race kids here with varying lengths of thick, curly hair. It was the absolute worst and I felt itchy afterwards for ages. Nitty Gritty comb and buckets of conditioner worked for us. God speed!

EnglishBluebell · 04/04/2024 13:10

Straighteners don't work as live eggs are too close to the scalp for straighteners to reach without burning your scalp. The eggs further down are dead egg shells. Also straighteners cement the actual bugs to the hair shaft and will make a huge mess. Plenty of YouTube vids explaining why straighteners are a hugely bad idea for lice

EnglishBluebell · 04/04/2024 13:12

Ah and the eggs take 2 weeks to hatch. So whilst you'll think you've cleared yourself of lice using straightening irons but as you'll miss the eggs next to your scalp, they'll hatch in about 10 days - 2 weeks

MonsteraMama · 04/04/2024 13:14

I mean that's what they do at those professional lice removal clinics so why not 😂bet it felt great!

Hope you get rid of them for good soon, head lice and thick curly hair is the devil's combination, you have my sympathies!

whatageareyou · 04/04/2024 13:16

If you haven't already lyclear is the only thing that's ever worked for me.

Zooeyzo · 04/04/2024 13:18

@MonsteraMama it really did!

Vamousse was the best thing we tried, but we also did lots of combing with conditioner and nitty gritty combing.

MonstrousSnob · 04/04/2024 13:22

I would shave my hair off

JMSA · 04/04/2024 13:28

Straighteners won't get rid unfortunately.

Sprinkles211 · 04/04/2024 14:08

How are you going to get them out of your vacuum filter?

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 04/04/2024 14:14

Hedrin Once is the only thing that has ever helped our household.

My dog looooves when I hoover him. 😆 Whenever I get the hoover out, he thinks it’s for him… gets all waggy tailed, sits in his spot obediently waiting for his massage. 😁

Vodka, cling film, conditioner and a nit comb. Seriously.

Souse your hair in the vodka- you literally want it to be dripping wet and then some. Cover your head with cling film and drink the rest of the vodka let it sit there for approx 2 hours. Then, without rinsing your hair, towel it dry and then apply loads and loads of conditioner. Use a nitty gritty comb and comb it all out in small sections.

The alcohol kills anything alive and dissolves the glue sticking the egg cases to your hair. Conditioner makes everything super greasy and easier to comb out. I've got arse length hair which is a pain to comb- doing it like this makes it easier.

ifonly4 · 04/04/2024 15:02

DD had head lice at the point our water was cut off following the 2007 floods - we didn't have enough incoming water for a few days to wash hair so could use anything on her hair as we couldn't wash it out. I literally got rid of the b....ers by coming her hair three times a day with a nit comb - it worked.

gamerchick · 04/04/2024 15:04

Are you combing them out every day or are you just sticking treatment on and hoping for the best? You need to do the long slog ime.

wilteddandelion · 04/04/2024 15:13

PinkJellyCat2023 · 04/04/2024 13:00

does that work? I don't even own straighteners but it sounds less faff than the insecticidal shampoo stuff or bug buster way

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 04/04/2024 15:20

Their eggs are cemented to the hair.

Chemicals don't work anymore - they've developed immunity to it.

You can comb them out daily until all the eggs have hatched and you remove the living bugs.

Or you can use a comb that will pull the eggs off the hair shafts - the spirals on the tines of the Nitty Gritty comb do that. You still have to repeat the process for a few days. Use a cheap conditioner to get the comb through the hair. Repeat a few days until you find nothing anymore. Do the entire family daily.

stayathomer · 04/04/2024 15:22

The magic comb and honestly just keep it up regularly. I don’t really believe in any of the treatments, I think the comb is the only way to go and apparently a bit of tea tree behind the ears every so often helps too but ds just broke out in a rash from it
