to think McDonald's have lost the main idea of "fast food"

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:21

It's not even fast anymore. It takes at least 15 minutes on a good day to get food, and on a bad day even longer. The drive-thru is even worse, I was in there last weekend and there were three cars in front of me and took half an hour to get my food and go.

I haven't even seen McDonald's do anything particularly creative recently. They're just bringing back old things and the food really doesn't look anything like in there adverts (which we established years ago)

And don't start about the new Happy Meal toys!!!

McDonald's is basically where fast food started, and now I think it's lost it a bit.

People actually get this delivered? Must be stone cold on arrival

I mean, it's only the same if I go to the drive thru and drive it home myself.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 02/04/2024 18:42

Don't eat McDs 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, it’s so annoying!! It’s not fast food anymore.

TBH, it's not even food. Never has been. YA all BU for even going to McD's in the first place!

Totally agree.

Did I mention that they charge 10p for the dips now! They used to be free!

The normal sauces? They just hand them to me when I ask for them.

BunniesRUs · 02/04/2024 18:47

I'm boycotting McDonalds as they're supporting soldiers who are committing war crimes by giving out free meals to all the soldiers.

Don’t get this fascination with McDs at all. Mediocre food at the best of times.

When McDs first reopened their drive thrus in stages in late spring/early summer 2020. The nearest McDs on the first lot of reopening was 53 miles away.

A fellow womble found a McDs bag with receipt attached to it the day after this McDs reopened. Someone must be pretty sad and pathetic to drive 106 miles round trip and probably spent hours queuing to get a burger from the very limited menu.

I live 5 minutes walk from one (can see the Golden Arches sign from one of my windows) and there was a massive queue to go through the drive thru on Easter Sunday! Sometimes I have to drive an extra mile to go to my parents who live 10 mins walk away from me and quickest way is going past McDs.

Hang on there Inspector Morse, finding a receipt from 53 miles away doesn't prove anyone made a round trip there.

Found the day after the McDs reopened the first 60-70 drive thrus 53 miles away - smacks a saddo imo

xyz111 · 02/04/2024 19:19

It's because they're so focused on Deliveroo/ just eat orders. The customer standing in front of them isn't important anymore. Have noticed this in loads of places.

How do you know the person wasn't passing by anyway?

Is it not "pretty sad and pathetic" to drive the long way to your parents' when they live a 10 minute walk away?

It smacks a saddo imo to sit in judgement because someone found a McDonald's receipt and assumes the person who ate it drove 106 miles to get it when you don't know if they did!!

And how do you know it's "mediocre" if you don't eat there?

I don't like it anymore but that's based on personal experience!

@WhatsTheUseOfWorrying "the dreary ‘60s ex-hippies plus some younger new ager fools"??? What?!

S’true. The ‘healthy’ restaurants and organic food shops round me are full of chunky sweater-wearing ex-hippies and smelly looking new age types. There are some younger mums with small children in those places; but they always grow out of it (or their children do) soon enough.

There not it was an April fools joke. Not a funny one 😡😭

Moonlightdust · 02/04/2024 21:22

I have to jump on the moanfest wagon and add:

  1. The cardboard knife & fork for their salads fills me with rage. Utterly useless and leave me feeling as sad as their salad looks…
  2. The milkshake/mcflurry machine never seems to be working (I hear this is often a ruse as they can’t be bothered to clean it?)
GG1986 · 02/04/2024 22:50

I think the issue is uber eats! They can't keep up with drive thru, deliveries and sit in customers all at once. Our local one is really slow and their systems also go down a lot! I've waited in the drive thru for 20 mins before and inside for 30 mins.

SabreIsMyFave · 02/04/2024 22:57

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 18:40

When I get it delivered, it's usually lukewarm.

Oh FFS. I was on your side @urwildquoter24 But now you have just admitted you have Maccies food DELIVERED! YOU are part of the reason that the service is so slow in the restaurant! 😫

The irony is deafening!

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 22:58

To be fair, I'd have wanted there to be separate "ghost kitchens" for McDonald's, and for the restaurants to go back to how they were around 7/8 years, before they started offering delivery.

I can understand that McDonald's restaurants are juggling eat-in, drive-through and delivery, but they can't just prioritise delivery and think everything else doesn't matter.

But I haven't had a McDonald's delivered in over three/four years. I rest my case.

@urwildquoter24

Oh come on! 😆 That's a VERY poor attempt at back-peddling 1/10!

You have started a thread whining about McDonalds being slow at serving in the restaurant, and drive-thru (which they often are now because of the delivery service they now provide,) and then gone on to admit you have deliveries!

You said at 18.40 today

"When I get it delivered, it's usually lukewarm."

Present tense... 'WHEN I GET IT DELIVERED.' You did not say 'when I USED to get it delivered 3-4 years ago!' 😆

As I said, poor attempt at back peddling!

Like I said before - you complain about slow service in the restaurant and the drive-thru, and yet YOU are part of the problem with the slow service. Don't try and pretend you haven't had a delivery for 3-4 years now, to try and back out of what you said. 😂

You have dropped yourself right in it mate. Wink You have not 'rested any case.' Just proven yourself to be a massive hypocrite!

It's a PITA isn't it? There are soooo many people these days, who can't be fucked to get off their arse and walk (or drive) to the fucking place. Yes I know there may be a few exceptions of people who can't get there, but they are few and far between, compared to the people who are just bone idle. Angry

You should try it - being bone idle fucking rocks!

Not with Mickey D's though. The food is always cold and tastes of nothing.

user1477391263 · 03/04/2024 01:45

Random digression: when did "park" become "park up"?

McD in here in Japan is generally agreed to be much better - although I don't go often enough to really judge. I did have some french fries recently and they were hot and fresh.

Drive through is a thing in the suburbs and rural areas, you won't see it in the central urban areas though. We do get the annoying Uber Eats people hanging around, although at least they use bikes to deliver.

Mountainhowl · 03/04/2024 02:29

No issue with either of the ones by us in terms of time, was in our most local one at the weekend and it took 5-10 minutes for a large order for 5 people including mcflurries, which seems reasonable

Occasionally we have a missed item, most often when we use the drive thru, but we always park up to eat anyway so we just pop in or go round again if the drive thru is quiet and they always sort it (and don't even ask for proof which is surprising)

AnxietyLevelMax · 03/04/2024 03:36

I remember when i was a kid, a trip to macdonald back then was a big thing, still have some happy meal toys! The one in the pic is my favourite, comparing to what you get now? Ridiculous.
