to think McDonald's have lost the main idea of "fast food"

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:21

It's not even fast anymore. It takes at least 15 minutes on a good day to get food, and on a bad day even longer. The drive-thru is even worse, I was in there last weekend and there were three cars in front of me and took half an hour to get my food and go.

I haven't even seen McDonald's do anything particularly creative recently. They're just bringing back old things and the food really doesn't look anything like in there adverts (which we established years ago)

And don't start about the new Happy Meal toys!!!

McDonald's is basically where fast food started, and now I think it's lost it a bit.

Agree about the worsening service, but that is common to many so-called fast food places.

Though less sympathy if you use a drive-thru instead of parking and walking into the building.

Why??!

My belief is that we all have it within our power to make other people’s lives a bit better or a bit shitter. I prefer to do the former and think that if we all do that life would be better in general.

If you’re deliberately making life difficult for employees by refusing to let them do their job the way they’ve been told to do it and you’re slowing down the queue behind you in order to get your burger a few minutes quicker I’d say that’s going to make both groups of people’s lives a little shitter therefore increasing the enshittening of life.

I'm not deliberately making anyone's life more difficult. I'm just a customer in a queue wanting to be served before the person behind me - it's weird how these days that's seen by some as an unacceptable attitude to have.

Does anyone over the age of 20 go to McDonalds?

🙄

I bet you think 'nobody uses facebook anymore' either. And think sending greetings cards is out of date, and for saddoes. (Along with other patronising assumptions.)

Edited

Exactly. It pisses me off when I place an order, and several people who came in after me get served first. Of COURSE that is going to piss people off - because of the unfairness.

walkerscrispsarethenuts · 02/04/2024 17:55

And part of your order will be ready but not the rest.

By the time it's all ready the things that were cooked first are cold!

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 17:56

I don’t understand why they don’t use dark kitchens like many other restaurants do

Nothingandnobody · 02/04/2024 17:57

It's always pretty quick at the one near me. No issues. At peak times like Saturday night the drive through queue can be a bit long but it's quick to park up and order inside.

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 17:59

Everyone judges people who eat McDonalds, even if it’s secretly

no they don’t. H2h

141mum · 02/04/2024 18:00

My DD worked in macs for 2 years in between uni, only just left, the store never had enough staff, the owners wouldn’t pay for more, the hours were ridiculous, the fighting from school kids, the abuse they got, when it’s really hot, although front of house is Cool with air on, staff had to switch it off in staff room and behind counters
no wonder it’s slow

WhateverMate · 02/04/2024 18:07

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:50

I think McDonald's should have special kitchens/locations for delivery drivers, similar to Pizza Hut/Domino's Delivery to collect from, as they should have just takeaway outlets so we can actually enjoy the eat-in/drive-thru experience without waiting.

There's a delivery only Maccies near me (London).

What's a dark kitchen?

A dark kitchen is where a restaurant has a kitchen but nowhere for diners to sit. If you are a chain restaurant and 20% of your orders are for Deliveroo, instead of having five full-sized restaurants running at 80% occupancy you can have four at 100% occupancy and just a small kitchen to make the delivery orders.

This has actually got to the point now where there are lots of restaurants that don't exist except on Deliveroo etc. That is, they only have a dark kitchen. Welcome to the 21st century, I guess. (Although if you think about it, the classic Chinese takeaway is not far off this model.)

TheBestEverMouse · 02/04/2024 18:12

100% agree it's not fast anymore. Last 2 times it was 10 mins plus for a family of 4!

Does anyone over the age of 20 go to McDonalds?

I believe so. All the restaurants round me that serve ‘healthy’ food, and the wholefood shops, seem to be full of OAPs. I think it’s the dreary ‘60s ex-hippies plus some younger new ager fools.

Dentistlakes · 02/04/2024 18:20

I agree, it’s becoming a supply depot for places like Deliveroo and Just Eat. They don’t provide a good service for face to face customers any more. I guess it’s a sign of the times. People can’t even be arsed to leave their homes
any more it seems.

Ihearyousingingdownthewire · 02/04/2024 12:29

I took my kid for a quick Wagamamas (gross salt fest, but still) and despite there being next to no one in there, we waited ages and ages and ages. Because of the 20+ UberEats and Deliveroo drivers sitting on their phones in the waiting area.

I have never had a single item of food or drink take less than an outrageous time to arrive in any Wagamama - I don't go unless someone else insists now.

Auburngal · 02/04/2024 18:29

Don’t get this fascination with McDs at all. Mediocre food at the best of times.

When McDs first reopened their drive thrus in stages in late spring/early summer 2020. The nearest McDs on the first lot of reopening was 53 miles away.

A fellow womble found a McDs bag with receipt attached to it the day after this McDs reopened. Someone must be pretty sad and pathetic to drive 106 miles round trip and probably spent hours queuing to get a burger from the very limited menu.

I live 5 minutes walk from one (can see the Golden Arches sign from one of my windows) and there was a massive queue to go through the drive thru on Easter Sunday! Sometimes I have to drive an extra mile to go to my parents who live 10 mins walk away from me and quickest way is going past McDs.

FangsForTheMemory · 02/04/2024 18:31

BreakfastAtMimis · 02/04/2024 10:35

No-one is forcing you to go to McDonald's so you could just... not?

Nailed it!

Auburngal · 02/04/2024 18:33

ButterflyKu · 02/04/2024 10:27

I agree! Whenever I enter Mcds there filled with Just Eat & Uber Eats drivers. It’s ridiculous

There’s a McDs about five miles from me and the food courier drivers use a separate entrance to collect deliveries so don’t see them if a customer.

My friends are fussy eaters and have to go with the flow re eating.

Slow service in my local one to well was last time I went ages ago I think their to expensive now for what it is

EatSprayGlove · 02/04/2024 18:36

Not just McD. I've waited over 30 mins for KFC twice now in 2 different locations

Tubs11 · 02/04/2024 18:37

People actually get this delivered? Must be stone cold on arrival

Okbyethen · 02/04/2024 18:39

Yes! When I've been to McDonald's in the USA they're so efficient! By the time you've paid and driven round to the next window they immediately hand you your food, if only it was that quick here!

When I get it delivered, it's usually lukewarm.
