to think McDonald's have lost the main idea of "fast food"

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:21

It's not even fast anymore. It takes at least 15 minutes on a good day to get food, and on a bad day even longer. The drive-thru is even worse, I was in there last weekend and there were three cars in front of me and took half an hour to get my food and go.

I haven't even seen McDonald's do anything particularly creative recently. They're just bringing back old things and the food really doesn't look anything like in there adverts (which we established years ago)

And don't start about the new Happy Meal toys!!!

McDonald's is basically where fast food started, and now I think it's lost it a bit.

It doesn't take anything like that in my local ones. Half an hour in the drive thru??!

Half an hour sat in car park waiting for drive through delivery is quick around here.

Hence why we no longer go! It's not a meal. It was fast food.

Now it's just food - pretty slow - and not really that filling 😂

Imagine this was all the time! 😂

It was an experience.
The megaphone girl was brilliant. They had a barrier up blocking the counter, she controlled the people easily.

DP once timed his local bakery making him ham and cheese salad for lunch. 12mins from order to payment. He said if it was his business he'd be making changes to speed up the process and in turn increasing revenue and profits.
Saying that I don't think we Brits are particularly speedy at anything.

Sartre · 02/04/2024 16:43

We stopped going because the two closest to us always, without fail, ask us to park up then just don’t turn up with the food so we have to go in. It’s often cold so we then have to go back in a second time to complain. Just isn’t worth the hassle. They also never have milkshakes.

Dp sends it back if it's cold or the order is wrong.

If I've been waiting in the drive thru and it's a simple order then I just politely decline if they ask me if I mind parking up. It occasionally meets with an incredulous look from the person serving, but they then seem to find the food quite quickly. I'm in a queue and this is the UK after all.

That seems a bit cunty, you’ve got people working their arses off to get things done and they are frequently abused if something isn’t the way a customer wants and you quite smugly declare that you’re happy to mess up the whole system just so you get your order a couple of minutes quicker? There’s not setting yourself on fire to keep others warm and there’s being difficult just because you can.

Where did she say she didn’t like it…? I think you need to read the post again.

I need to change my classes! I swear I read it 3 times as it didn't make any sense to me either. I read, 'the one near me is slow and the food is always hot!' GrinGrin. Sorry.

WhatIsHeThinking · 02/04/2024 17:00

Totally agree. I feel like a failure as a parent when I take my children there. There are so many quicker and healthier options - it’s just convenience that keeps me going back. I don’t think the DC really enjoy it either. It’s the sign I’ve had a really low mental health week if we end up there. When I’m coping with life, the idea of going makes me fill a bit sick.
Everyone judges people who eat McDonalds, even if it’s secretly.

It had never occurred to me to do this but I'd hardly describe it as cunty.

How are things ever going to get better if we just bend over and take the increasing enshittification of life without kicking back? Why should I feel guilty about being served in a queue in the right order? And when did I become responsible for how other people treat retail employees?

Saying no isn't cunty nor is requesting an order to be correct.
The idea behind macdeees is fast and if that isn't happening, then.....
Is this back to the UK being shit at service again?

Obviously being threatened is not on.

JudgeJ · 02/04/2024 17:15

Are you ordering a Filet? That's the only thing that takes any time in my experience (and DC hate it when I order one).

And it's been my experience in lots of other countries too, I've never been able to understand it.

I so agree. The local kebab place is soo much quicker. And there’s loads of salad on the doner ‘babs (with double tomato garlic sauce) that we get!

ChocBanana · 02/04/2024 17:21

SaffronSpice · 02/04/2024 16:29

I don’t get why anyone would order a McDonalds to be delivered. They are only edible when they are hot so by the time they been sat in a cool bag and delivered they must be cold and disgusting.

Genuinely? A lot of people are fucking lazy, under the guise of being “busy”. Some people are too busy to get food unless it is cooked for them and delivered.
But for every one of them, there’s about 57,000 who can’t be arsed and have got used to everything being instantly delivered.

WeightoftheWorld · 02/04/2024 17:23

I agree with everything on this thread. I do really like a well cooked, hot McPlant meal, my kids love the veggie happy meals and we all like a McFlurry. However the quality of the meals seems to decline and decline (whichever one we go to - many, because it's just an occasional tea for us on a day trip/travelling etc) and the wait is longer and longer and the mistakes made more and the unavailability of items increases. We haven't been for months now. I actually prefer a greggs I think with the kids now but in winter there's often not anywhere to sit in with them is the only issue.

LlynTegid · 02/04/2024 17:36

Agree about the worsening service, but that is common to many so-called fast food places.

Though less sympathy if you use a drive-thru instead of parking and walking into the building.

Mushroomwalls · 02/04/2024 17:36

Our drive thru always forgets to put the straws in, so annoying.
Its a rare treat but I still love it on occasion.
At the height of the pandemic I really craved a McDonald’s ! I also remember having morning sickness and thinking I’d die if I didn’t have a mcchicken sandwich.
But yes, deliveroo people really slow it down these days. 9 times out of ten they ask you to park in the bay and wait.

cerisepanther73 · 02/04/2024 17:39

#Macdonalds happy meal toys 🧸 plastic tat crap for envoriment,

McDonald's food not even much better too

Ice creams and milkshakes that's it are OK in taste...

Haven't seen the appeal for ages really..

I've stopped going since I saw videos of IOF soldiers being gifted food by McDonalds. I'm not funding the genocide of a population. Free 🇵🇸

Maybe people in your area are boycotting as well.

Have a day off, eh?

anniegun · 02/04/2024 17:41

Does anyone over the age of 20 go to McDonalds?

My belief is that we all have it within our power to make other people’s lives a bit better or a bit shitter. I prefer to do the former and think that if we all do that life would be better in general.

If you’re deliberately making life difficult for employees by refusing to let them do their job the way they’ve been told to do it and you’re slowing down the queue behind you in order to get your burger a few minutes quicker I’d say that’s going to make both groups of people’s lives a little shitter therefore increasing the enshittening of life.

ALongHardWinter · 02/04/2024 17:46

It's all the Deliveroo and Uber delivery drivers that's holding everything up. It's the same story everywhere I go nowadays, whether it's Subway, McDonald's or Burger King. There's always quite a few delivery drivers waiting for their order. I think the restaurants must give them priority.

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 17:48

I love their food and the brand but, yes, it takes 20-30mins to get round the drive through and I gave up ordering delivery as it was taking up to 2 hours. So I dont eat it that often as a result

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 02/04/2024 17:49

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:51

But you can't really do anything with the new paper ones. Most of the time they just get chucked in the bin.

I seem to recall around 12/13 years ago McDonald's doing a set of toys that played different pop songs.

Those singing things were the most annoying toy ever created. Fuck me I was glad when they broke.

It's a PITA isn't it? There are soooo many people these days, who can't be fucked to get off their arse and walk (or drive) to the fucking place. Yes I know there may be a few exceptions of people who can't get there, but they are few and far between, compared to the people who are just bone idle. Angry
