to think McDonald's have lost the main idea of "fast food"

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:21

It's not even fast anymore. It takes at least 15 minutes on a good day to get food, and on a bad day even longer. The drive-thru is even worse, I was in there last weekend and there were three cars in front of me and took half an hour to get my food and go.

I haven't even seen McDonald's do anything particularly creative recently. They're just bringing back old things and the food really doesn't look anything like in there adverts (which we established years ago)

And don't start about the new Happy Meal toys!!!

McDonald's is basically where fast food started, and now I think it's lost it a bit.

It doesn't take anything like that in my local ones. Half an hour in the drive thru??!

blushroses6 · 02/04/2024 10:25

Our local one is so slow, they always ask you to park up and wait for your order, even when I ordered a single cheeseburger!

JMKid · 02/04/2024 10:25

I blame all the deliveries they do now, they all seem priority whilst actual walk in or drive through customers have to wait. I also think the new order method, as in using the touch screen takes a lot longer as well. They are most definitely not fast food anymore.

Namerchanger1 · 02/04/2024 10:25

I stopped going there because the food has become quite expensive but they always always get the orders wrong at the one near us

if you order through deliveroo something would always be missing, and in the end deliveroo said I couldn’t order anymore from there because I’d complained too many times basically

I’m sure they don’t care, but it doesn’t seem worth it imo anymore

Mummame2222 · 02/04/2024 10:26

Yes, it’s so annoying!! It’s not fast food anymore.

MississippiAF · 02/04/2024 10:27

The one near us is fast and everything is always hot. It’s a motorway junction though, so it’s always busy.

It’s not my idea of a treat, but it fulfils a purpose

dottymac · 02/04/2024 10:27

In the 3 near me, it's always slow, always cold food and always gross. I only go in an absolute emergency now.

I agree! Whenever I enter Mcds there filled with Just Eat & Uber Eats drivers. It’s ridiculous

2024theplot · 02/04/2024 10:28

We only go there when there's absolutely nothing else available as we have found the same, 15+ minutes wait for food.

MeinKraft · 02/04/2024 10:28

The Halloween squishmallows were a great toy. Wish they'd bring back tastes of the world.

urwildquoter24 · 02/04/2024 10:28

Did I mention that they charge 10p for the dips now! They used to be free!

Our local one is so slow and busy the queue stretches out of the car park and regularly blocks the roundabout to a main road. I have no idea how it hasn’t been closed down.

Tohaveandtohold · 02/04/2024 10:30

It’s the same in the one near me. I ordered a wrap of the day and drink in the drive through and was still asked to park and wait for my order.

The Squishmallows were really good. Just wish they'd bring back the plastic toys.

I've only seen them do board games in the Happy Meals recently (last year they did Dobble, Jenga, Connect 4 and this year and most recently Uno). A few years ago they did top trumps.

Great for a long car journey though.

Are you ordering a Filet? That's the only thing that takes any time in my experience (and DC hate it when I order one).

Everything else is reasonably fast but they're cooking it all to order these days (apart from fries) rather than piling food on the racks like they used to.

I find the thing that slows them down is the number of food deliveries they have to prepare.

SpeedyDrama · 02/04/2024 10:32

Have two within short distance to mine (one often sends out a bicycle delivery), I will not order from one of them because the food is always cold, late and they never give sauces unless I’ve paid ‘extra’ (so not the ones with the meal but the fancier big pots). Ironically it’s not the bicycle delivery one.

Have a KFC that’s far better at delivering but their food quality is poor. Only order from either place as a treat for the kids and my eldest loves KFC unfortunately.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 02/04/2024 10:33

used to love it when you see but as i've aged my tastes have changed. my kids like it but it's a big expense for something when they are often starving a few hours later

BreakfastAtMimis · 02/04/2024 10:35

No-one is forcing you to go to McDonald's so you could just... not?

DoYouSmokePaul · 02/04/2024 10:36

I hate the Russian roulette of whether the chips will be:

  • golden shards of god-like crispiness filled with hot potato fluff
  • chewy, slightly brown strips of sadness

It must be years since I went to McDonalds, but there’s one locally that you pass on the way to several supermarkets. Until recently, the queue used to be at least ten deep and frequently more. Over the last month or so, there’s rarely a queue at all. Is it price, quality, freshness, or something else?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/04/2024 10:37

You have to wait for all the Uber/Deliveroo orders now - they ignore the people waiting in person, so I’ve moreorless given up now.

MrsO3 · 02/04/2024 10:38

The wait times are ridiculous where I live too and the food has always been crap. I don’t ever complain though because at the end of the day if I don’t like then I shouldn’t go. I much prefer KFC but DH&DC prefer McDonald’s so I’m outnumbered 😫
