have just rung police, young couple up the road, known drug users, so pissed/stoned sitting on bench near shops, guy has wet himself, she actually can't focus or speak, lo in buggy crying eyes out.

it's wet and raining, cold etc. BUT i couldn't trust them in my home, soooo, instead of inviting them in and seeing to lo, i have called police in hope that social services will become involved etc. am now worried i have put lo in more strife!

oh my goodness that sounds terrible. You have so done the right thing.

meemar · 28/03/2008 16:13

You have done the right thing. The child could not have been looked after properly with them in that state.

tiredemma · 28/03/2008 16:13

That is the right thing to do. How old is the LO about?

You've done exactly the right thing. That LO needs to be looked after long term by someone, and that someone (at this point) is not his parents.

Hope the police are sending someone straight away.

alicet · 28/03/2008 16:14

You have ABSOLUTELY done the right thing

WanderingTrolley · 28/03/2008 16:14

Oh dear. I think you did the right thing.

scorpio1 · 28/03/2008 16:14

Where police interested?

meep · 28/03/2008 16:14

definitely the right thing - how old is the wee one?

scorpio1 · 28/03/2008 16:14

Sorry, were.

cocolepew · 28/03/2008 16:14

You've done the right thing.

lennygrrr · 28/03/2008 16:14

don't feel a shit. at all.

tiredemma · 28/03/2008 16:15

JWN- I contacted SS a couple of years ago about a family member who sounds similar to these pair. The child is in care now and I dont regret for one second what I did.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2008 16:15

good for you

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 28/03/2008 16:16

You did the right thing - they will be in the hands of those who are better able to help them ...

Sparkler · 28/03/2008 16:16

You ANBU. In fact I think you are fab!. So many people would have walked straight past and ignored them.

Miggsie · 28/03/2008 16:16

..you did a good thing.
Someone needs to take control and sort them out, and I can see why you did not invite them into your home, it could have been deeply unpleasant.
Not all of us are Mother Theresa, in fact 99.9% of us aren't.
You did not ignore them, you helped them in a way you could and made sure someone should now take it in hand.
You are not qualified to deal with drug users I think you made a good choice.

What if no one had done ANYTHING?
That would have been worse.

I don't see how lo stuation could get worse than the scene you have just described.

tiredemma · 28/03/2008 16:16

(Chances are- they will already be known to SS)

TurkeyLurkey · 28/03/2008 16:17

Yes, you have done the right thing. You shouldn't feel rubbish about it, the 2 adults are old enough to know better but the poor little one isn't.

coastalmum · 28/03/2008 16:18

I think you did the best thing possible for that child.

eternalstudent · 28/03/2008 16:19

Totally done the right thing.

jesuswhatnext · 28/03/2008 16:20

lo is about 2, i know this couple are 'known' faces to the police and yes, they were interested, thank god!

i do feel shitty though, this girl (mother) is a really troubled person and for quite a time the baby seemed to be the making of her.

i would hate for her to loose the child now for the sake of a stupid 'lost' afternoon iyswim.

btw - i do recognise that baby is the most important person here!

lennygrrr · 28/03/2008 16:22

so maybe ss will realise she needs a bit more support?

Harrybee · 28/03/2008 16:22

Definatly done the right thing. Well done, lets hope the LO will be in a safer & warmer place.

jesuswhatnext · 28/03/2008 16:22

ohhh thanks you lot - i don't feel like such a 'nosy-beak' now
