Aibu to ask if you have a famous DH

Does it bother you? I have a semi famous DH, he gets paid to gig and go on podcasts etc if we go out locally he does get asked for selfies so we tend to go away for weekends as a family.

I do find it slightly annoying but I guess it pays the bills 💃

Judging by OP's posting, I think we're looking more along the lines of Alan Partridge than Judge Jules to be honest. 🙈

When you said "local", did you mean Norwich?

That's him!

If this is genuine, I think OP’s DH is Darren Styles, I follow him on Instagram as used to like his and Ultrabeats stuff back in the day, I have browsed his wife’s Instagram before just to be nosey when he’d tagged her and got the impression she thought she was something she wasn’t so just went back to look again.
He does a lot of ‘events’ in Europe, very popular over there it would seem, not so much on the uk. And, their youngest daughter turns 11 in May, so is in yr. 6. 🤔

I’ve never heard of Darren styles

listsandbudgets · 30/03/2024 13:04

@whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher Primark has some good make up ranges if you fancy a change... and you won't even need to hook up with an international DJ

Waitingfordoggo · 30/03/2024 13:04

This fella might be ‘well known’ but I can guarantee I won’t have heard of him as I can’t name any DJs*.

‘Famous in DJ land’ is not the same thing as ‘famous’. An old school acquaintance is married to a ‘famous DJ’. He travels frequently and earns very good money but the majority of people wouldn’t know who he is.

*Apart from Fatboy Slim and Carl Cox. Maybe it’s one of those two?

ghostyslovesheets · 30/03/2024 13:07

Lots of 'DJ's' play festivals - most are way down the set list - like carnations - fillers.

I can't think of anything worse - having been married to a guitar player in a band - every bloody weekend taken up with travel, gigs (including festivals), playing in New York 5 weeks after I had our first via c section, endless rehearsals - no envy here - it's quiet a lonely life I was happy to give up!

Iknowitsyou · 30/03/2024 13:08

MeadowL · 30/03/2024 11:52

I'm not going to name him.

He's a very well known and international DJ, and has been since the 90's. He started on pirate radio stations and illegal raves and now gets to headline festivals worldwide. He is already booked through to the end of next year.

💃

If this is the case could well be once of my husbands friends who is as humble as anything and certainly wouldn’t describe himself as famous despite being a headliner. I’d actually be pretty embarrassed if it turned out to be you R!

Me neither but he has a long wiki.
I'd be more impressed if it was Darren Sampson. Grin

Scalby · 30/03/2024 13:11

Have you ever looked up the definition of famous? I don't think it means what you think it does.
P.S. DB is famous. I don't live vicariously through his achievements.

It is indeed a lonely life for the wives of band members.
Especially when children come along.
Kids can't go on tour for weeks on end.

Also the fear of infidelity.

It might be good money - but the lifestyle is lonely.

AngelQuartz · 30/03/2024 13:12

@MeadowL

But is your superstar famous sponsored booked up international DDJ going to be doing the year 6 leavers disco? Have you called the other mum a cunt in the WhatsApp group yet?

Thats what we all want to know. We don’t care about any of the other stuff.

My DH is so famous he has to go out with a paper bag over his head. When it's windy like today he has to stay home in case it blows off and he gets pestered for selfies.

I agree with this. I was not married to him, but when young I lived with my boyfriend who performed at festivals like Glastonbury. I got into a lot of festivals for free, But its not really compatible with a family or with having a job yourself. I did work full time, so at times we did not see each other that much. But it was fine as a young twenty year old with no children.

I don’t think it’s Fiona Merry (just checked her insta) but even if it is. Jesus how bloody sad to start this thread! I’d never heard of her DH by the way let alone would recognise him.

listsandbudgets · 30/03/2024 13:20

It must have been hellish for him when his well known face appeared to the 'hoi polloi'

Can you not sellotape a chin strap made of elastic to stop the paper bag from ascending like a paper lantern in the wind?

MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique · 30/03/2024 13:23

I know who OP's DH was - and I can confirm that he was at stratospheric fame-level in the 80s.

All I'm going to say is 'Ralph Dring's Mobile Discotheque' - and if you know, you know.

FlissyPaps · 30/03/2024 13:23

That would be hilarious if the OP’s husband was Darren Styles.

Only getting paid 4 figures for international events? Tragic. Tell him he needs to up his prices pronto Fiona OP!
