Aibu to ask if you have a famous DH

Does it bother you? I have a semi famous DH, he gets paid to gig and go on podcasts etc if we go out locally he does get asked for selfies so we tend to go away for weekends as a family.

I do find it slightly annoying but I guess it pays the bills 💃

I can’t comment - my DH is not even a household name in his own household!

I was friends with a famous comedian- he's dead now - but going out with him could go either way. He was famously quite miserable so if he was in the mood to put his head down he'd not be bothered or really even noticed. Our local pubs didn't pay him any extra attention. If, however, he was feeling extrovert he would court the attention and people (young women) would flock to him, which was annoying - but on his part, not their's. He would get blokes trying to out-wit him at the bar or tell him he wasn't funny which could go one of two ways.

It's complicated with someone who has a public and private persona which they struggle to manage.

RIP to him, complex, kind, loveable, pain in the arse.

SH?

Scribblydoo · 30/03/2024 12:30

I once dated a guy who was Britain's under 18 Subbuteo champion... And I did once get a picture I'd drawn show on the Broom cupboard (but lied about my age) so I suppose I'm semi famous too

Hélène79 · 30/03/2024 12:31

Judging by OP's posting, I think we're looking more along the lines of Alan Partridge than Judge Jules to be honest. 🙈

When you said "local", did you mean Norwich?

Dontcallmescarface · 30/03/2024 12:34

MeadowL · 30/03/2024 10:39

I do detect some envy though 🤔

Hardly....I have a relative who is considered famous (he's a comedian with his own T.V show), he's still a twat at times though.

SerafinasGoose · 30/03/2024 12:34

I'd abhor the idea of being known - much less publicly recognised - for my husband's profession.

😂😂 this made me laugh out loud. Poor DH.

JoanThursday1972 · 30/03/2024 12:40

I was going to say DJ Silly Boi but then realised he isn't real.

TeacherHarri · 30/03/2024 12:44

I wouldn’t know a DJ if they come up to me and introduced themselves, I’m sorry op.

I also don’t really envy the idea of scantily clad, beautiful young women hanging around the DJ box, hoping to catch my semi-famous husband’s eye to be honest.

I am more than content with my lovely husband, who cuddles up to me every night and makes me feel like the only beautiful woman in the world. I feel lucky to have him and wouldn’t trade him for all the DJs in the world.

Mulhollandmagoo · 30/03/2024 12:45

I can't get past an 'internationally famous DJ' who 'makes 4 figures per gig' and is 'booked to the end of next year' who would charge his kids school £200 for a year 6 leavers disco - whoever he is, that really is the height of arrogance!

AmethystSparkles · 30/03/2024 12:47

I’m friends with the cousin of Hugh in Detectorists. I don’t usually say for fear of causing envy.

TheIcecreamManCometh · 30/03/2024 12:47

I like Rumpelstiltskin threads but nobody ever confirms identities so y'all could be spinning! Easter Wink
I am old so haven't heard of any knob jockeys except Calvin Harris (married to Vick Hope), David Guetta (cringey TikTok) and Fatboy Slim (assume he's still going) and Chase and Status won a Brit (not sure if they DJ as well as produce).
So you could give me the name of your DH and I'd be clueless.

I would, like many parents, not want to pay £ for a "gig" though - year 6 won't care, you might get away with it in secondary, but many will think do one as opposed to getting a bargain here.
One parent in primary school (not UK) once did a group class photo for "mates rates". The idea was to present the teacher with a picture of all our crotch goblins (I have no idea whose idea it was but I was Easter Confused at the time why it was deemed a good idea). They then charged us all £££ for this and £££ for personal copies. All at a supposed reduction on their professional services. As a Brit, I was appalled. Teachers are non-grabby (a home made card's fine thanks) but why anyone was narc enough to think a photo of their Halo would make a good end-of-term gift, God knows.

Anyhoo, here are 100 famous international DJs OP.

So he's well known locally and in Europe or he's an international dj who headlines festivals? Which is it?

If he really is a big deal festival headliner isn't he pissed you're gossiping on MN about him? The well known people I'm acquainted with, wouldn't appreciate people using them to create attempted brag posts, especially their OHs.

Exactly!
If one really does know people well known in music or acting roles, or other high profile roles, the LAST thing one does is to start a Mumsnet thread about it.

Privacy , trust and discretion is so important in these circles.

I'd guess OP is insecure, hence the need to brag about her husband.

TheIcecreamManCometh · 30/03/2024 12:52

Oh and my DH is famously lazy.

Slightly annoying that he's famous yet you are complaining on the School Disco thread that the other mother is a cunt for stealing your husbands limelight?????...........

Either you are desperate for your DH to BE famous or (I strongly suspect) there is only a DH in your imagination.

B1rd · 30/03/2024 12:53

My exH was famous, mainly in Czechoslovakia. People would ask him for his autograph. He was also sponsored whilst racing for F1 but now only gets recognised by the other racers if he attends an event. There are plenty of videos of him on Youtube if you search for sidecars. 😂

I appeared on Twitter when I did a space hopper race with the lead singer of 911. I was the person at the back face planting. 😂

WholeMe · 30/03/2024 12:53

If this is genuine, I think OP’s DH is Darren Styles, I follow him on Instagram as used to like his and Ultrabeats stuff back in the day, I have browsed his wife’s Instagram before just to be nosey when he’d tagged her and got the impression she thought she was something she wasn’t so just went back to look again.
He does a lot of ‘events’ in Europe, very popular over there it would seem, not so much on the uk. And, their youngest daughter turns 11 in May, so is in yr. 6. 🤔

ThinWomansBrain · 30/03/2024 12:56

AH, yes, the famous school disco DJ with the groupie partner that insists he does a school disco for every possible occasion.
Cost of living, needs the cash, who cares if the kids would prefer to go to the cinema?

TheIcecreamManCometh · 30/03/2024 12:56

Ooh I named another one.
This would make an excellent Pointless round.
Name an international obscure DJ.
Mine would be DJ Vuish whose name I just looked up because the guy irl was in our halls of residence but had some gigs in Berlin.

Maxus · 30/03/2024 12:57

This is so funny. He was s supposedly famous let you are worried another parent hosting a cinema trip will steal his limelight 😆 you live on a different planet don't you?

If it is her she was a wannabe before reality shows really took off. And looks like Meghan Markle.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 30/03/2024 12:57

MeadowL · 30/03/2024 11:52

I'm not going to name him.

He's a very well known and international DJ, and has been since the 90's. He started on pirate radio stations and illegal raves and now gets to headline festivals worldwide. He is already booked through to the end of next year.

💃

So why's he charging £200 to play the school disco??

Behave.

I’ve got a really fucking annoying husband.
So annoying he could be famous for it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

AcrossthePond55 · 30/03/2024 13:02

It's sort of an odd one. One of my sons is extremely well known in a certain field of entertainment. But he's not well known to the public, he's well known to performers and other 'names' in his field. So members of the public don't randomly walk up to him, but if he's out and about in certain places/cities 'famous' people will stop him to say hi or chat for a bit (and we have to stand there like we don't know who they are if we're with him, lol). And he does have well known friends, some of whom we've met at his home. And all of whom are really nice people.
