Aibu to ask if you have a famous DH

Does it bother you? I have a semi famous DH, he gets paid to gig and go on podcasts etc if we go out locally he does get asked for selfies so we tend to go away for weekends as a family.

I do find it slightly annoying but I guess it pays the bills 💃

Oh you definitely do! ( I was paid £1 for a letter published in Bunty though )

HOLD ON - YOU WERE PAID???!!

I only got a letter and probably a badge, can't remember.

They diddled me, the cheapskates 😡

My friend was on dick and dom in da bungalow (if anyone even remembers that 😂)

My nieces loved that show, I cursed it though. If I took them out they'd start shouting "bogies" 🙈

I live near a few famous people sometimes I don’t even recognise them til someone points them
out to me in Sainsbury’s I think they just blend in because they’re ordinary people! Even then I don’t look cos I’ve got to get on lol.

My kids TA her hubby is the local DJ you know does the school disco and Xmas light switch on. They seem to think they’re minor celebs. It’s a bit cringe.

Is OP your kids TA?

Even fat boy slim doesn’t feel the need to,leave his locale of a weekend.

maybe the op is just really impressed she has married the village dj and got a bit drunk and fantasised he was semi famous.

Oh dear!! 😳

Not murder or anything like that but infamous nonetheless 😂 I've always counted myself lucky that he's my ex...

No, thank goodness. My Dad was sell out stadium tour famous and that was awful (aside from my private education for which I am extremely grateful).

Threewheeler1 · 30/03/2024 09:20

Does your husband drive a bit of a banged out soft-top 'status vehicle', sporting the complex numberplate 'Big G', around the environs of coastal Dorset?
Just checking.

HelenHywater · 30/03/2024 09:21

I dated someone who was on Blockbusters once.

I recently dated someone else who was a tv presenter in the late 80s through to early 2000s. I don't think anyone would remember him though

I know someone who shagged Shane Warne (I think lots of people could claim this though).

I have been on tv lots of times, but don't think anyone outside my industry would recognise me

The bogie sketches will make me laugh until the end of time. Especially in the library 🤭

Dated one of the wealthiest men in the world on and off for ten years.

Amazing, lifestyle wise. Shameless sleazy type of women would literally throw themselves at him in front of me. It got to the point, that I couldn't put up with the constant disruption from this really low level behaviour. He was quite jaded from it. Never really felt anyone was his friend, just there for the perks. And 99% of the time this rang true. Such a shame, he was honestly one of the smartest, well read, funniest men I've ever met. Absolute victim of his success.

Because he's not famous like a movie star, these women had researched him to even know what he looked like (and his peers) and essentially stalked whoever was in their vicinity at the time. He tried having a butler once, who tried to blackmail him. He has very limited staff and does most things himself. It's fun for a month, but long term, it's no life.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 30/03/2024 09:28

We are both sort of well known in niche film circles. A film historian included us both in his thanks and dedications in a recent book. We’ve been recognised a couple of times from that at events we’ve attended when we’ve introduced ourselves to new people (are you the same X&Y that Z thanked in his book?), which is always funny as we are just film fans. Something to tell our kids about. No royalties though!

That level of fame takes careful management but we’ve so far been able to keep our feet on the ground.

I knew a micro-local radio DJ so I arranged a meeting with a retired HUGE (in the profession, not of physique) TV executive (who I had met dog walking) for his input. TV man asked DJ “Why are you doing this? Do you want to be famous?” and the DJ replied “I am famous.”

There was a silence and the meeting closed shortly afterwards. TV exec guy and I never spoke of it again.

Was going to add a useful reply to the thread until I realised it was started by a 12 year old

Does he earn gazillions from a scaffolding company and you live in West London, if nah then he’s not famous

Hoppinggreen · 30/03/2024 09:35

My friend (who I met on here but we have both NC) has a v famous comedian Husband. She messaged me as we had something in common and we discovered we live close to eachother and arranged to meet but as she uses her maiden name I had no idea. Before we met I looked her up on FB to make sure she wasnt an axe murderer and saw a photo of her with her H, googling confirmed who she was.
We then had an odd situation where I didnt ever refer to it but she dropped lots of hints when we met like "H lives mostly in London" and "H is in television" and I pretended not to have any idea who he was until eventually she asked if I had heard of X as he was her H and I was torn between acting surprised and admitted I had known all along - I actually admitted it and we had a good laugh about it.
They live somewhere quite unassuming as she has MH issues and needs to be near her family, sometimes there will be rumours on the local FB page that X was spotted in Sainsburys or whatever but most people just say thats ridiculous as what would he be doing round here. I have never met him but watch him on TV sometimes

WrenNatsworthy · 29/03/2024 22:38

I was on an episode of 80s TV show 'Why don't you?'

I was once on an episode of Beat the Teacher and I did! OMG! I'm famous and I didn't realise!

MyDHusedtobeanMP · 30/03/2024 09:37

My DH used to be an MP and his minor celebrity it was an inconvenience at the best of times and horrendous at others.

The inconvenience was some people fawning over him or awkward conversations when people were slagging him off. Being lectured by taxi drivers and others. Every time I bought and paid for tickets to something getting accused of freebies. I could never express my opinion online in case it ended up in the local paper as MP's wife says...

Horrendous varied from hate on social media through to rubbish being dumped in our garden, threats of violence, having to carry attack alarms, emergency plans with school for the children's safety. Having to install CCTV on the house and twice being told by special branch to leave our home for days for safety.

He's no longer one and enough time has passed for him to be lovely and obscure again.

I got £50 for a letter in Readers Digest around 10 years ago.
