Aibu to ask if you have a famous DH

Does it bother you? I have a semi famous DH, he gets paid to gig and go on podcasts etc if we go out locally he does get asked for selfies so we tend to go away for weekends as a family.

I do find it slightly annoying but I guess it pays the bills 💃

This thread is hilarious!

True stories:
My great-grandparents would have been 'locally semi-famous' but nobody found out their secret until many years after they'd died.

My aunt was locally famous as a county council political party leader for years.

A friend married the son of a locally semi-famous Greengrocer.

jengachampion · 30/03/2024 08:36

Does anyone remember the troll post about the girl who got an Alice in Wonderland book for her birthday? I liked that one, it was imaginative.

Jenasaurus · 30/03/2024 08:37

Is it Gordon Skeggs, he is semi famous on a local level

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 30/03/2024 08:41

My friend’s DH is famous and it causes them zero issues. Perhaps it’s because he’s older and it’s more related to politics.

My DF's name is in a book!

P.S. It's one of those local history, self-published books . . . . .

You reminded me that my name is on the cover of a book, as I provided the cover photos (from my holiday).
It was a weird self published book by an ex-colleague.

Luckily my DP is more famous than me so I don't have to hide from my fans too often.

XelaM · 30/03/2024 08:47

My ex-husband was in the news because he committed a crime that was widely publicised 🙈does that count?

One of my classmates was on the popular quiz show Blockbusters in the 80s. But by then he was in sixth form and the school I had decided I wasn't staying on so I didn't get to bask in any reflected glory.

I wasn't bitter though because it soon became apparent that fate had other plans for me. One of my brothers went on Going for Gold with Henry Kelly! He only lasted 3 rounds, but did get a screenshot his picture in the local paper.

Sometimes people ask if I miss those heady days of fame by association, but I always tell them I have no regrets - I like the person I've become, and wouldn't want it to have changed me 🤷‍♂️

@baroqueandblue I loved “Going for Gold”! Reminds me of being home from school ill, getting no I watch “Neighbours” before it was aired again at tea time and then “Going for Gold”. PS can I have your brother’s autograph?

KimberleyClark · 30/03/2024 08:52

My DH is very well known in the fairly niche area of law he specialises in and gets quoted in journals and articles. But famous? No.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 30/03/2024 08:52

Surely this thread is just begging for the Daily Mail to pick it up and run a breathless story about parents being outraged that anyone - never mind somebody who's already "semi-famous" - would have the audacity to charge £200 for their "time and expenses" to DJ for a couple of hours at their own child's primary school leaving party?!

Everythinggreen · 30/03/2024 08:53

You've all reminded me, I was on the radio back in the early 90s. Radio 1 Roadshow, I won Bits & Pieces and was pretty well known in my school for a while or should I say "semi famous" 😂

ghostyslovesheets · 30/03/2024 08:54

I once had a letter read out on Tiswas, Ex was in a commercial for The British Beer Council- way back in the 70’s when he was a punk and my DD was on The Great British School Swap. That’s about it unless you count my stint in the Young Generation Youth Theatre in the local church hall?

DD won a local radio competition for the “best joke” when we were on holiday in Devon 8 years ago. She won a bag of “Starbursts”. I told her the joke so technically I’m the famous one.

LilFoxes · 29/03/2024 21:58

DH was a child actor. No one recognises him except a a couple of questionably die hard fans, but it's getting to the point the films are aging out of recognition. So technically yes, I've married someone who could have briefly been considered internationally famous long before I met him.

It's tough sometimes but I try really hard not to base my entire identity around it.

Oliver or The Railway Children?

JJathome · 30/03/2024 08:59

Imagine charging your kids school 200 to do a couple of hours djing though. I understand the op and her husband will be struggling, but having to charge petrol money for something which will be so local and for your time is embarrassing, I’d have declined. Send them off to the cinema

Edited

😂 oh now I need the joke!

I don't think OP was expecting there would be so many of us semi- famous people here.

The one and only child friendly joke I know (and everyone else): “why are pirates called pirates? They just aaaarrrrr!”

So, if anyone has used that joke post 2015, You owe us royalties.

tulipdoo · 30/03/2024 09:02

My friend was on dick and dom in da bungalow (if anyone even remembers that 😂)

UsualLurker · 30/03/2024 09:05

I once got accused of having 'style and flair' by an actor who was looking to use my employers design services. They didn't employ us in the end...but I think I might get those words tattooed on...

idontlikealdi · 30/03/2024 09:05

Famous no. But married a teacher. We shop in the next town over to avoid the kids at the weekend.

ButterflyTable · 30/03/2024 09:09

I live near a few famous people sometimes I don’t even recognise them til someone points them
out to me in Sainsbury’s I think they just blend in because they’re ordinary people! Even then I don’t look cos I’ve got to get on lol.

My kids TA her hubby is the local DJ you know does the school disco and Xmas light switch on. They seem to think they’re minor celebs. It’s a bit cringe.

🤣🤣🤣

I'm surprised you haven't had a sponsorship deal with Pirates Adventure for that. I mean if OPs Ray Von can get sponser deals, it's only fair!

LemonOrca · 30/03/2024 09:11

@Neodymium Which, the 1964 original? Wikipedia says Garber died of haemorrhagic necrotising pancreatitis after contracting hepatitis in India.

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 30/03/2024 09:13

Not mine but friend's DH is a professional sportsman. People often come up to him when we are out socially and fawn over him which we find hilarious because he's just her gawky husband to us
