To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

WTF are you on about @Aj485?

oakleaffy · 29/03/2024 20:58

I'll NEVER vote Tory either.

I’m probably being a bit dim but could you please let me know which specific laws that have been enacted in the last 14 years which back up your assertion that the Tories are the party that defends the rights of women.

Changingnameagain · 29/03/2024 21:03

I'd rather scoop out my own eyeballs with a rusty spoon than vote Tory.

Whu · 29/03/2024 21:04

Not a hope in hell. Never have, never will.

izimbra · 29/03/2024 21:05

The absolute insanity of asking women to vote for the government whose policies have resulted in women experiencing

  • higher rates of homelessness
  • reduced access to healthcare
  • higher rates of severe poverty
  • less access to the criminal justice system
  • stalling growth in life expectancy.

... because you object to 0.2% of the population getting rights you don't think they should have.

BIossomtoes · 29/03/2024 21:05

I love the things we’d all rather do than vote Tory.

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 21:07

Aj485 · 29/03/2024 20:54

Are you sure that's not teachers you're talking about ?

You mean the teachers who are feeding kids and washing their clothes because parents are struggling to do so?

ilovesooty · 29/03/2024 21:08

BIWI · 29/03/2024 20:58

WTF are you on about @Aj485?

She's got an agenda evidently and thinks that comment is big and clever.

Sapphire387 · 29/03/2024 21:11

Howling with laughter at the notion that the Conservatives care about women.

Notreat · 29/03/2024 21:13

LaurieFairyCake · 29/03/2024 18:05

The Tories hate women way more than any other party

A stopped clock is right twice a day - that's the fucking Tories over this issue

They force women into poverty, they don't enforce child maintenance payments. The make childcare practically unaffordable forcing women to compromise their careers. They restrict HRT and fuck the NHS.

They're FUCKING SCUM who got one thing right ! Hmm

This.
The Tories have completely destroyed our country, schools are falling down, teachers are more disaffected than ever before, and nurseries and child care providers are closing down, and there is a teenage mental health crisis.
The Tory party is becoming more and more right wing and extreme. 'sensible one nation Tories are leaving the Party. And sadly a once great Party is now a party of people like Rees Mogg, Guilles, Andrea Jenkin and Robert Jenrick, people without compassion.
So yes OP you are being very unreasonable

Totally agree with you OP
without free speech we have nothing
without ability to state what a woman is we can’t fight sex discrimination
i don’t trust labour to fix this but at least the Tories seem to be taking note.
that’s not to say we won’t be fighting the Tories for women’s rights down the line but at least if we can define ourselves then we have a chance

bakewellbride · 29/03/2024 21:20

@blubberyboo what good is 'free speech' and all the other stuff in your post if god forbid anything terrible happened to you but an ambulance couldn't come because the nhs is in such bad crisis? The tories are a disaster and people are literally dying as a result of their policies.

whiteroseredrose · 29/03/2024 21:20

@CoatRack I'm focusing more on things like banning nicotinamides, action against farmers and businesses polluting rivers; stopping the badger cull, construction on greenfield sites etc.

I know climate change international and as a small island we won't have much impact but the fact remains that if we poison and mess up the planet it's irrelevant who calls who what, if and how we educate our children and how we manage economies.

Manopadmanaban · 29/03/2024 21:23

I have two disabled children and I don't think fucking Tories are helping my situation. You can fuck off with your stupid principles OP.

I’m new here so if I upset anyone, sorry! Long post but dying for feedback as I seem to be looking at politics different to most.
yes I’ll vote for conservatives ……,, shock horror!
I’m not bothered about who said what or did what we are human, we make mistakes we are all guilty. I look at what each party does. What it does for us all. What it is doing to our country. Labour consistently for as long as I can remember have always bankrupted the country, leaving the incoming party to sort it out….. your probably screaming Toni Blair sun shone from his arse, really? He came into power with a massive chest of money built up by the conservatives, which he spent ….. god it must’ve felt like Christmas! He went to war based on lies, his wife bless her, opened the flood gates on human rights to the point no one can say anything without being sued, plus every illegal immigrant has permission to claim ‘rights’ to stay even if the are rapists, or murderers, ect . rather than put them straight on a plane home! The unions pulled the strings of the party to the point of crippling businesses, growth and investment, don’t forget we need these for the taxes that pay for most areas being governed. Gordon bless him, left a note after raiding pensions saying sorry piggy banks empty! This time we will be dragged into Europe, under European rules which will stifle growth for everyone and we will have more rules and control thrown at us, but we will be given a carrot of being able to live abroad so that’s ok!
Conservatives for all there faults have dealt with a couple of really shit years, and we were helped through them, thanks to Boris, yes he’s a shit but he was good when we needed him, unfortunately the bbc, who hate the conservatives, the Labour Party and every other jealous vindictive person rubbed there hands with glee and made sure every minor thing he did or didn’t do was blown up to be a best seller! compared to Europe we are now doing better than all of them. Interest will fall this year, inflation has dropped, pensioners are being helped, as are workers ect, they are trying to push through Rwanda but the lords not the government is stopping it happening, the EEC is also against it but send there own there?????? throwing money at the NHS won’t cure its problems it needs restructuring from the top, too many chiefs not enough Indians! More free child care - labour wont commit - everyone thinks labour will transform the Uk…… I for one see higher taxes if you dare put in the work! Businesses being clobbered, not just large ones but little ones too, higher rates, more pen pushers on pumped up salaries pushing through idiotic laws which don’t actually help the country but cost a fortune. The unions tightening there hold, let’s face it they are the paymasters of Labour! This is fine but, whilst some poor bastard is waving his board for a thousand pound pay rise, the actual leaders will be living in there 1 million pound house eating steak With a salary of 200,000 plus a year ect supposedly supporting the worker. Yeah right. Arthur S jumps to mind. What does everyone think?

JockTamsonsBairns · 29/03/2024 21:25

midgetastic · 29/03/2024 18:09

Can you explain to me why you consider the snp morally bankrupt but not the tories ?

This.
I'm quite interested in that assertion.

Notonthestairs · 29/03/2024 21:26

If donors (unions) own the Labour party, who owns the Conservatives?

BIWI · 29/03/2024 21:27

What do I think? I think @PinkBumblebee that you don't have a fucking clue.

happychops · 29/03/2024 21:29

SiriAlexa · 29/03/2024 18:08

I have always voted conservative but just can’t this time. The harm to the economy and to public services over the past few years is unforgivable. They gave us Luz Truss - I can’t forgive what her recklessness dod to interest rates. Suella Braverman and the Rwanda policy- I can’t support it. I would rather have Kier Starmer and Angela Rayner, and a new direction.

This.

pointythings · 29/03/2024 21:30

@PinkBumblebee are you interning for the Conservative Party? Because that was a mishmash of lies and misrepresentation that would get you a job there if not. Also paragraphs are helpful in order to make long posts more legible.

The Tories "seem to be taking note" about women's rights and free speech?

Are we living in some sort of parallel universe?

JimmyGrimble · 29/03/2024 21:32

I will never, ever vote Tory. I would rather eat my own hair. I believe that Labour is turning on the trans issue.
To AJ you have absolutely no clue what teachers and schools are now having to provide due to Tory mismanagement. If you think that’s funny you’re a twisted individual.
