To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

I will be voting Tory

VimtoVimto · 01/04/2024 15:28

Surely it would be better to vote for a party that backed a legal system that prosecuted sex offenders than worry about the off chance they will become legally female.

BIWI · 01/04/2024 16:25

Why @roarrfeckingroar?

pointythings · 01/04/2024 16:26

@BIWI she's a dyed in the wool Tory loyalist who will never vote anything else. Some people just are like that.

Exactly. She's consistent in her support of them.

DuncinToffee · 01/04/2024 15:19

"Suspect"

or more an attention grabbing headline, that doesn't reflect the reality of that debate

Well I said 'suspect' because while it's based on what Annalise Dodds has already said the plan is, presumably that plan could change before Labour reach govt. Currently to get a GRC, the applicant has to convince a panel they have gender dysphoria, under Labour plans it will be a single GP, who won't therefore be an expert on the condition. But even if GPs do filter out non genuine sufferers, clearly there's nothing that means they aren't or wont become predatory. None of us know if Isla Bryson or Karen White suffer with gender dysphoria or not. And having a dysphoria clearly isn't any guarantee of good character in any way. And once given to the wrong person, a GRC will be impossible to revoke.

DuncinToffee · 01/04/2024 17:14

Hopefully under Labour we actually can get a GP appointment

That’d be nice. I suspect Truss’ reduction of the fee to a fiver made getting a GRC much easier than Labour’s proposed changes. And of course Theresa May’s bill would have meant no medical input at all.

So you agree that was a terrible idea then?

I do. That’s why I’m glad no political party is proposing it.

JessS1990 · 01/04/2024 17:55

Underthinker · 01/04/2024 15:14

Or in my case, avoiding voting for any party who I suspect will make it easier for male sex offenders to become legally female.

So despite the OP's urgings you won't be voting Tory then, they will be disappointed.

Sadly, for you, you'll find the vast majority of those voting Tory in Scotland are Scottish-based English-born voters.

Therefore, I would say Scottish = not Tory as a general rule.

I'd hazard a guess the same applies in Wales.

You’re talking pish!. What nonsense are you spouting about English born. Where did you get that data from?

I didn't say English-born are the sole source of Tory votes in Scotland, simply they are the majority.

The Orange Order urge their members to vote Tory too, mostly in order to prevent independence, but also in line with their delusions of social superiority.

Fortunately, OO numbers are very much in decline but their numbers are balanced out by more English-born people relocating to Scotland and bringing their political views with them.

The other group which is inclined to vote Tory in Scotland is farmers/fishermen.

So, there you have it. The Tory vote in Scotland consists of:

  • Foreigners (English-born)
  • Fuckwits (OO deluded superiority complex type)
  • Farmers/fishermen (old school superiority complex type)

Every Scot I know, who does not fall into the above groups, would rather die, or offer up their first born, than vote Tory.

As s woman of some four decades, yes baby! What have the Tories ever done for us for anyone. Only dumb or rich and privileged people buy what they're selling.

Whytoodee · 02/04/2024 01:41

That was supposed to say yabu not yes baby! 😳

You must be from West Central Scotland cause where I’m from, nobody (very few)has those strong views. It’s very Tory/Labour here and oh the really rich folks here fly their SNP flags every election time. Anyway to each their own.

I'm not from West Central Scotland, and in my experience what Trez1510 says is a fairly accurate reflection of my over fifty years here.

DeeCeeCherry · 02/04/2024 12:46

The Tories are in now and have done sweet f.a. for women.

2 of my friends, aged 54 and 57 respectively, died of Covid alone in hospital during the pandemic. Whilst Boris & co were living it up, travelling across the country etc.

You are spectacularly singular-minded and doing a great job of putting women off your brand of women's rights, which doesnt appear to have any room for other human rights that matter at all.

Okay we definitely live in very different circles. 😃

Absolutely.

JimmyGrimble · 02/04/2024 13:38

You are allowing yourself to be weaponised by a morally corrupt and increasingly desperate Tory party. I would describe myself as GC but no way could I vote Tory. Labour will have to turn on women’s spaces, they will be forced to as the evidence starts to stack up. It will happen, it’s only going one way now. The Tories do not now and never did remotely care about women. Or children. Or the poor. Or the disabled.

Couldn't agree more.

FFSNorman · 02/04/2024 23:03

The Tories’ main tactic is Othering. Whether it is brown people on boats, disabled people, unwell people, or indeed trans people. They’re Other. And there’s nothing better than appealing to people who live to Other. Not so long ago, David Cameron made it clear he was a staunch churchgoer who held conservative and ‘Christian’ views on not only same sex marriage, but same sex anything. And he also promised the referendum which broke the nation. Bigots gonna bigot, and the fact they’re prepared to vote (or not) on the basis of one issue proves the bigotry. Absolutely no different to the ‘stop the illegals’ argument, which is ‘but some of them are criminals’. No different.

Trez1510 · 03/04/2024 01:45

@FFSNorman they have resorted to dog whistle politics to attract the hard of thinking.

Following the lead (pun intended!) of such great thinkers/politicos of our time: Farage and Trump.

That's the sewer in which they swim.
