To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

The Tories repeatedly have acted in ways that go against the interests of far more than 50% of the population...

Absolutely. Most of the electorate are well aware of that, which is why single issue voting is becoming more and more of an irrelevance as far as most people are concerned.

JessS1990 · 31/03/2024 16:52

And you are comfortable with their leader trying to blackmail an MP today?

I know nothing about that and can't find anything about it in the news either.

When you do find out about it, will it change your opinion of Reform?

Username947531 · 31/03/2024 17:03

I've read the article and I'm still happy to vote reform.

Ah, good I am glad you have caught up with the Reform leader trying to blackmail an MP.
Its not the kind of behaviour I would want to be associated with.

Their policies are uncosted pipe dreams.

They sure are. Exempting every front line healthcare worker earning less than £50k from income tax. Where are they planning to get the money? It’s fantasy land.

Absolutely fine. I respect the fact you have different opinions to me. Unlike many people on this thread, especially on the left, I tolerate different opinions and am happy to listen to them and respond with respect.

You’d vote for a convicted animal abuser? Seriously?

That particular candidate is not in my constituency so no I will not be voting for him.

VimtoVimto · 31/03/2024 17:17

So do I understand this correctly, people don’t want to vote Labour because they haven’t committed to something but it’s ok to vote Tory who also haven’t committed to the same thing.

But you’ll vote for a party that makes them welcome. Shame on you.

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2024 17:19

If you vote Reform, make sure to check out your local candidate. They already had to drop 3 in 24 hours this month,
Beau Dade, Ginny H Ball and Roger Hoe.

Here is info on one of them

I'm not clear, does Beau Dade, or the other two know what a woman is?

If they do, then of course I would happily vote for them.

So here’s thing.

I’m not some sort of bot or from Tory spin central.

I don’t want another Tory government. I have never wanted one.

BUT any one with any perception - and I have been accused by many on these posts of not having any - needs to see that Labour pose a massive threat to women’s rights and freedom of speech.

I am appalled by some of the posts about how awful the Tories have been. Bad as I thought they are I was unaware about how awful.

So yes let’s not have 5 more years.

However, any woman not seeing Labour’s existential threat to women’s rights needs to take another look.

Please could someone come up with a better alternative than we’ll vote Labour because the Tories are so shit we’ll take restrictions on freedom of speech on the chin?

On some specific posts.

The one query quoted above. I think Kemi Badenoch’s school safety guidelines are very good. And whilst probably safeguarding both girls and boys, it would seem girls will benefit more. Anyone not read them then please do.

Also the government’s ban on the SNPs GRE bill seems a really great move.

The poster who told me I had my arse handed to me - right on - made laugh out loud.

The poster who suggested they threaten Labour candidates they’ll vote Tory unless they change their policies on women’s rights (but not actually ever voting Tory) spot on. This is the sort of creative dialogue we need.

To the poster who accused me of hyperbole on the Welsh 20 mph speed limit.
Cyclists can do way more than that.
Bolt had been recorded running in excess of 27 mph. Assuming there are some runners in Wales are 75% as quick then they could overtake a car doing 20. How embarrassing is that?

BTW I’m rubbish at apps. Those who asked why I didn’t enable voting - I didn’t know how. But I’ve read most of the posts and would have had very few yanbu ticks.

Also BTW have had lots of thanks from people who never posted.

Night all. Sleep well and Happy Easter!!

You say

"BUT any one with any perception - and I have been accused by many on these posts of not having any - needs to see that Labour pose a massive threat to women’s rights and freedom of speech.

What have you been doing for the last 15 years living under a rock????

You'd rather vote Tory because of "your freedom of speech being prevented under labour" sounds more and more like you're Katie Hopkins doing a research piece to be honest.

I really hope and pray you don't get a polling card from the rock you've been hiding under!

pointythings · 31/03/2024 17:35

Wow at that article on Beau Dade. I still remember in the days after the Brexit referendum, there was a poster on MN who was advocating deporting all foreigners and seizing their assets - they didn't get much support, but this is very much along the same. I remember a country that did this sort of thing, something to do with WW2, don't think the British liked them much, and here is someone seriously advocating that all over again.

As long as they know what a woman is...

Underthinker · 31/03/2024 18:02

As long as they know what a woman is...

I would no more vote for a politician who thought some women were male than I would have voted for the Indiana state legislature who attempted to pass a law stating pi = 3.2.

bombastix · 31/03/2024 18:05

Why is anyone surprised at Beau Dade.

Look at who donates to the Tory Party. A racist man who draws on old Nazi tropes for his comments in private.

Brexit has brought more immigration than ever to the UK. Some very naive people thought it would benefit them. They were wrong. Racism and dividing policies were liberated and this is all predictable.

The latest thing is national profiling of criminals as a Conservative policy.

Look at this squalid divided society the Conservatives what. That they will campaign on, lose and leave us to fix our society afterwards.

Women's concerns are nowhere. Drum bashing by a racially diverse cabinet who turn out to be as self serving as a non diverse one.

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2024 18:10

Or Paul Marshall, the owner of GB news where many Tory MPs are presenting shows

TooBigForMyBoots · 31/03/2024 18:10

Fuck me! I think I'll become a fortune teller on Only Fans! I could do spells for £200 a pop.🤯 🤔

JessS1990 · 31/03/2024 18:23

Brexit has brought more immigration than ever to the UK.

Its the will of the people.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 31/03/2024 18:23

Bluepetergarden · 31/03/2024 15:41

The Tories have had 14 years to do something - why haven’t they ?

No idea. But no point asking me, I’m not a Tory.

Why is it so hard for some people to grasp that being critical of one party doesn’t mean you support the other? It’s so childish.

It’s not a football match where you cheer on ‘your’ team regardless of how shit they’re playing.

Well, clearly it is for some, but it bloody well shouldn’t be. It’s about time we had something better.

Jumping in and going ‘well, what about your lot’ like a 7 year old in a playground really isn’t persuasive.

This really juvenile approach to politics and solving the big problems of the day is part of the reason why we’re so stuck. While politicos are playing ‘yah boo’ and enjoying the banter, the rest of us are suffering. It needs to change.

@thesangriapeople - what makes you so golden compared to your fellows, given you have described the UK as a cesspit and by proxy, called the inhabitants shit?
