To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

@Bluepetergarden
I have never voted Tory before, I supported Tony Blair's Labour, I just feel this issue is so important and the Tory party align more with my views on this issue that I feel so strongly about

Bluepetergarden · 31/03/2024 13:11

snowbird21 · 31/03/2024 13:07

Labour's position on the gender critical issue goes against my beliefs, I am not saying I think the Tory's are fantastic but on this issue they align more with my views and this issue to me is fundamental for me.

And if this issue is so fundamental to you maybe you can give me a list of the measures they’ve already put in place to safeguard women ?

BorisIsACuntWaffle · 31/03/2024 13:13

Odfod

Fucks sake.

I don't really think saying "I turned up in 2010" and I've given my tuppence is quite comparable to those of us who have lived and invested in the UK for generations.

I have zero political allegiance or political rights, as I already said, I am not a "Tory". From only the personal perspective, I'd be sad to see leftists win, I think it will be a start of a very bad period for the country that I have quite a lot of tender feelings for. My children are half English, but thankfully have also options elsewhere due to being multilingual and well exposed to other cultures, so it indeed does not affect us so much, so we won't be picking up the costs of any decline.

Why would you be sad to see leftists win when you are a leftist yourself?

Nay nay and thrice nay.

@Bluepetergarden
I have never voted Tory before, I supported Tony Blair's Labour, I just feel this issue is so important and the Tory party align more with my views on this issue that I feel so strongly about

So you don't care about the levels of poverty that the Tories have, and continue to, inflict upon the country - which affects huge swathes of women?

Or you don't care about the dismal state of the NHS, inflicted upon it by the Tories - who are very deliberately and insidiously moving to privatisation which affects huge swathes of women?

Or you don't care about the impact of Brexit, pushed through by the hard right Tories, which affects huge swathes of women?

Or you don't care about the environmental impact of the Tories' failure to keep the water companies in check (as long as they make a profit) which affects huge swathes of women?

etc, etc.

Yet the GC issue is the political hill you are prepared to die on? Narrow-minded beyond belief.

transplantplant · 31/03/2024 13:20

YABU Op, don't subject us to another five years of Tory cruelty and crapness. The country is in a worse state than I can ever remember.

Sorry @IClaudine but that article is behind a paywall.

pointythings · 31/03/2024 13:05

That would be because the answer is 'fuck all', and the single issue voters know it.

Not quite fuck all.

After all it was PM Theresa May who first put Self ID on the table.

The Tories wrote genderwoo into our legistlation, including a Maternity Bill.Shock

They paid out a lot of money to Stonewall, to Stonewall our institutions and legistlation. The Stonewall CEO was a Tory Party donor obviously.Hmm
Tory MPs reported UK women to their employers and the police for retweeting JKR.
They repeatedly made TWAW believers head of Education.

They are the first party in the world to have a Trans MP.

The Tories are full of TRAs, MRAs and haters of women. Those who don't actively hate us, don't give a shit about us.

I'll be voting conservative.
I say this as someone who used to be an LP member.

I'd rather take several more years of shite than end up like Spain.

The safeguarding of my daughter and vulnerable girls and women is more important than anything else to me.

Read @TooBigForMyBoots post

BIWI · 31/03/2024 13:25

And actually @snowbird21 and @jeaux90 if you read the Conservatives 2024 manifesto there is absolutely nothing stated there about women, women's rights or the whole gender ideology issue.

Food for thought, eh?

A strong economy

With the Conservatives we’ve seen our economy grow, with rising wages and unemployment at a historic low.

Oh, I got into it as I think you are allowed one free read a month before it puts the paywall up.

BIWI · 31/03/2024 13:32

In fact, there's not one single mention of 'women' in the Conservative manifesto.

Unlike Labour, who include the following:

Tackling violence against women and girls.
Labour will halve levels of violence against women and girls within a decade because everyone has the right to live free from fear.

We will introduce new specialist domestic abuse workers in 999 control rooms and put specialist rape investigation units in every force across England and Wales - so that early opportunities for prevention and protection are not missed.

and

Fast-track rape cases through the courts and provide legal advocates for rape victims. Rape units in each police force, specialists in every 999 control room paid for by cutting police waste...

... for a start.

user8800 · 31/03/2024 13:33

This has all happened on the tories watch

All of it

Don't be fooled the tories care about anyone but themselves and lining theirs and their friends pockets

The safeguarding of my daughter and vulnerable girls and women is more important than anything else to me.

I have read some of the things that are happening in Spain, and it is awful. But:

a) It is a handful of cases of abusive, violent men abusing the system; and
b) Labour has it will protect women only spaces.

So to me, what is happening in Spain is no justification for voting for a party which, for example, has shut 43% of the courts in England and Wales, resulting in the median time for the completion of a rape trial reaching more than two and a half years from the date the rape was committed.

snowbird21 · 31/03/2024 13:41

@BIWI I take issue with called 'narrow minded' - I understand you disagree with my view and I respect yours but please don't mud sling. I am not happy that I am likely to vote Tory as I am not a natural Tory voter. I also live in constituency which is on Labour's target list and have asked about asked both parties about this issue. The responses I received showed me that the Tory candidate was aligned with my view and labour was not.

BIWI · 31/03/2024 13:42

So you don't care about the other things then?

snowbird21 · 31/03/2024 13:48

I do care about many other things but to me this issue is so basic and fundamental - I feel that it will destroy the fabric of society. Of course there are many other issues I am concerned about, economic growth, cost of living and poverty, the state of education, crime levels, the NHS provision, the countries infrastructure etc etc

Warmwoolytights · 31/03/2024 13:49

I have friends who are or recently have been Conservative Party members who are in despair over what the party currently is. Bankrupt of ideas, lacking in delivery in most areas, playing for the relatively small number of votes that come from the populist right, with Ministers of astonishingly poor calibre. The number of people under 50 planning to vote Tory on recent polls is tiny. The party as it was is dying. The best thing for it is to leave government and rebuild. Maybe this is the end for the Conservative Party altogether.

Their position on trans issues is designed only to play to the men in the corner of the pub shaking their heads over the world today. The country is not those people. It is not an intelligent defence of women’s rights or safeguarding of vulnerable teens, or anything like that. It is ‘what weirdos those trans people are’. And the next weirdos could easily be those feminists with their silly ideas.

BIWI · 31/03/2024 13:51

Sorry, but if you really do care about those things @snowbird21 then there's no way on this earth that you (or anybody else who cares about them) would be voting Tory.
