To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

All this trans nonsense has started under a Tory government so I have no idea why you would base your vote on this issue.

Feel free to minimise "All this trans nonsense". I think that's a shame. It's is a big deal to many people.

I wish it were nonsense.

That could be a whole new thread, but for starters I would rather:

Walk over a thousand pieces of lego
Stand on an upturned plug barefoot
Crawl over broken glass

All of the above would be less painful than another term of these corrupt, immoral, heartless bastards.

I like this game! Things I'd rather do than vote Tory...

I'd rather drink a pint of river water which, thanks to our Government, will almost certainly be full of literal shit and might well result in me spending 72 hours lying on the floor of a corridor in A&E because there are no fucking beds.

I'd rather go on I'm a Celebrity and share a plate-full of Kangaroo testicles with Matt Hancock while he tells me all about how he's really just a nice guy who fell in love. Ant and Dec had better be ready with the sick bucket.

I'd rather get on a one way flight to Rwanda (it's a lovely safe place to live afterall) where prior to take-off Suella Braverman recites Enoch Powells 'rivers of blood' speech in lieu of the usual safety announcement, and the in-flight entertainment is just Nadine Dorries Tik Tok rap about the Online Safety Bill playing on a continuous loop.

I'd rather bear Boris Johnson's 7th child. Or would it be his 8th, 10th, 12th...who the fuck knows??

Actually not sure about that last one, might be too far.

Agree I have many friends who are carers earning that, if everyone just stopped doing low paid jobs our economy would grind to a halt

I'm a senior carer and get just above the NMW.

transformandriseup · 29/03/2024 22:35

I'm disabled. The Tories want me dead. I'll give it a miss.

I'm not disabled but my mum became severely disabled for many years before her death. I won't vote Tory as I don't think they think in the best interests of disabled. Tory voters who insist that everyone is capable of work should have met my mum.

....err, work smarter and harder to earn more ?

You're just being inflammatory.

CatsAreBetterThanPpl · 29/03/2024 22:56

Tories the anti abortion anti gay marriage pay their mates during the pandemic for invisible PPE party (speaking of pandemics - oh yes reminder of parties they had a few while many of us couldn't see our loved ones, were struggling financially and mentally) the idea of them being a "party for women" is laughable.. 😆they've ruined this country for the last 15 years.

Ok let's add trying to destroy our health service, police service, education and local services through cuts. Creating an economic and cost of living crisis many are still going through and enduring....

hmmmm would I vote for them as a feminist let alone a human being who cares about the well being and justice for others?

I can't fathom exactly what you think Tories will do better for women exactly continue to cut benefits? Bursaries for qualifications? (Cut!) A lack of social housing? Cut higher tax rates so them and their mates and cronies continue to benefit? 😡How EXACTLY does that benefit women??

IMO they seem to want to keep people down...

Not to mention many Tory MPs voting AGAINST a stalking and domestic violence bill previously and a story recently approx a month ago about a TORY MP being the perpetrator of DV and rape....@Hurrydash

I'm appalled at the idea of another 5 years of them in government. Also relieved there as so many others out there who clearly feel the same way too I was a bit alarmed when I saw this thread and the original thread!!!!

As for other devolved nations within the UK tbh I think I'd rather live in Scotland (I don't understand how & why the SNP are "morally bankrupt"??? you speak of "morally bankrupt" I think my description of Tories aptly covers this - they will NEVER EVER have my vote!

I could say more re Wales and NI (having previously studied Irish history) FYI Tories and unionists (a party in NI) were actually in a coalition maybe look up how many of their leaders are anti giving women choice???? And read or watch the news today about their leader ... Hmmmmmm it's a no brainer for me

We need to applaud those who "work" for the NHS for its continued demise. They're doing us a great favour in steering it towards the much needed privatisation.

Then and only then will the entitled deadwood cease to be the burden of the taxpayer.

Fear not @Aj485 the electorate has woken up to the entitled deadwood and there is a greater than 20/1 chance they will be evicted at the next election.

@pointythings

See my post. I have all those things too.
Most people have choices to make.

I can not vote for a party that throws women under the bus.

Don't vote Tory then, and probably do vote for the party in your constituency that will ensure the Tories don't win the seat.

newnamethanks · 30/03/2024 06:32

1000+ posts on last thread and now 11 pages into this one. Yet you haven't enabled voting OP, whyever could that be?

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/03/2024 18:07

Hell would have to freeze over, before I vote Tories. Never have and never will same as Labour never voted them either.

Same here. I would never vote Tory or Labour.

MiffedandMiserable · 30/03/2024 06:40

I personally think the trans debate is too complex for any one party to please everyone.

I don’t even know where I stand to be honest.

I want to protect female spaces.
I also want trans women to feel safe and respected.
I don’t really mind if they want to refer to themselves as women.
I don’t want women to lose any rights or powers we have currently.

Not sure what the solution is, but voting Tory (a party who do not represent women or seem to like them much at all) ain’t it.

To be honest, the trans debate is so far down on my list of issues it doesn’t even compute to me.

I’m concerned about things like:
Healthcare (inc dentistry)
Education
Childcare
The cost of public transport
The cost of mortgages and rent
Fixing roads

We won’t really know labour’s policies until an election is called and debates start. I don’t see the point in banging on about it constantly now.

Bluepetergarden · 30/03/2024 07:36

So what exactly have the Tories done to protect the status of women ? This happened on their watch and they’ve had 14 years, what have they done ?

DrunkenElephant · 30/03/2024 08:13

PinkBumblebee · 29/03/2024 22:29

Actually my aunt was in intensive on a ventilator for 8 days before dying! We didn’t get to say goodbye either

And all the while, the people who made those rules were ignoring them and doing what the fuck they liked. They were having PARTIES.

I am so so sorry about your aunt, genuinely, but can you really not see why people are so angry? This government have fucked us over for FOURTEEN years. The country is on its arse, and most of that is because it has been ran into the ground by this corrupt, immoral government. Child porverty is at a record high, in England in 2024. All of our vital services; the police, education, the NHS, social care, all of it is barely functioning. We are in a cost of living crisis after austerity nearly crippled some of us while gas and electricity companies are recording massive profits, people are dying and the Tories do not give a single shit. You do not matter to them unless you are one of their pals so unless you are a high earner, if you vote for them you are literally a Turkey voting for Christmas.

Even if you are a high earner, I would hope you would vote in the interests of those more vulnerable than you, but I accept that a lot of people don’t and that’s up to them but please do not come on here and defend the most disgusting government we’ve had for a long, long time.

VimtoVimto · 30/03/2024 08:50

Aj485 · 29/03/2024 22:24

....err, work smarter and harder to earn more ?

So it’s so simple. What about people who are doing essential jobs that are not well paid?. Surely everyone whatever their job should be able to live in affordable housing and have a reasonable standard of living. I’m not talking about flash cars or luxury holidays but being able to pay the bills, buy food and have enough left for some leisure.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 30/03/2024 08:54

Congrats on the new job at Tory HQ @Aj485, although you might want to complete the induction material before posting again as your deflection tactics aren't up to standard yet.

As for the subject of the thread.

If I was given sole power to choose the next government but had to choose between another term of the tories or a chicken that randomly selected policy by pecking at a set of tiles then I'd have to go with the chicken every time.

I'm not saying the chicken would be a great leader but at the very least having it restricted to picking policy from a set of tiles would introduce a level of consistence this current government can only dream of.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 30/03/2024 08:55

They've treat working single parents terribly.

I used to get some help from Child Tax Credits.

I was forcibly moved onto Universal Credit with the promise of "transition protection". In reality I get nothing from Universal Credit.

In a time when the cost of living has dramatically increased prices for everything, I've found it hard coping with the loss of income from tax credits.

I like the sound of this chicken. I assume also the chicken would get on with those policies and not ignore most of the tiles altogether while bickering endlessly with other chickens over who is most likely to offer the slightest chance of extending chicken rule, change chicken tile responsibilities so often that no chicken understands where the tiles are, and spend most of its time concocting a vastly expensive plan to send some less fortunate chickens into a fox hole it has deemed 100% safe while public services collapse through lack of funding?

BIWI · 30/03/2024 10:50

And also, the chickens would produce eggs, so we'd get an extra benefit.

rooftopbird · 30/03/2024 11:12

This is absurd. Anyone who votes Tory is an uneducated fool in my opinion and I will stand and fight this nonsense until my dying day.

Basing your entire political opinion on the GC argument is so insular it makes you sound very scary.

Zyq · 30/03/2024 11:17

blubberyboo · 29/03/2024 21:17

Totally agree with you OP
without free speech we have nothing
without ability to state what a woman is we can’t fight sex discrimination
i don’t trust labour to fix this but at least the Tories seem to be taking note.
that’s not to say we won’t be fighting the Tories for women’s rights down the line but at least if we can define ourselves then we have a chance

In what way are we deprived of free speech on the GC issue? You're speaking out freely on a public forum, after all.

You think people within the NHS aren't working? Try proclaiming that next time you have to go into an NHS hospital because you or yours are seriously ill or injured. When a cardiac surgeon did a five hour operation on my brother to save his life, he and his colleagues seemed to us to be working pretty damned hard.

SunshinDay · 30/03/2024 11:24

I'm a swing voter with 2 young daughters, which way do you think I'm going

Bluepetergarden · 30/03/2024 11:28

As previously asked - can any Tory voters tell me what this government has done in the last 14 years to safeguard women ? No one has answered me
