To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

@DrunkenElephant @ilovesooty @blossomtoes

I'm not saying we are representative.

I'm not saying that we are not. We certainly exist.

What I AM saying is that the Conservative Party has done a very poor job of running the country, and Labour should be a dead cert as a vote for most people,

But they are not, for me, because Kier Starmer is a weak leader who cannot or will not say publically that a woman is an adult, human female. He is not supporting adult, human females, and I am one.

And therefore, I cannot in good conscious, vote for a party with that belief,

Have not met ONE person who is prioritising the trans issue in their voting. Not one.

Because with the state the country is in and the crisis our world is facing that would be utter madness!

Nor me. I do, however, know quite a few people who are planning to vote for parties other than the Tories for the first time in their lives.

CantFindTheBeat · 29/03/2024 22:07

@pointythings

See my post. I have all those things too.
Most people have choices to make.

I can not vote for a party that throws women under the bus.

I think anti-LGBT hate crime should be taken bloody seriously.

"anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up" is scaremongering.

There is shit loads of transphobia and homophobia in our society, and the people with those attitudes are fuelled by hatred and intolerance of difference and people who don't adhere to gender stereotypes.

Do you not understand this?

I've seen it in my kids' secondary school, where my DS was verbally and physically assaulted for being perceived as trans, which he's not, but he has long hair and apparently that is a problem and 'disgusting'. People (mainly men) with those attitudes and a propensity to violence need to be taken seriously, it's dangerous and horrible.

I am quite comfortable saying that whilst also having challenged the school on aspects of their trans-inclusive policies that were impacting on girls. I know there are issues that need hashing out more, but we can fight about that whilst also recognising trans people do face a lot of shit and deserve protection from that.

MotherOfRatios · 29/03/2024 22:09

Have they delivered ANYTHING from the manifesto they were elected on?

As a young woman the housing crisis is CRIPPLING me, they said they would bring in renters rights they've watered it down from lobbying from landlords, the leasehold bill yet again watered down.

Wage stagnation! House prices exceed wages hugely! Low wages aren't helping us get on the ladder either.

Yet they find the money to give triple lock pensions? Something my generation probably won't have well work till we die.

Oh and I'm Black it may be the most 'diverse' cabinet but it hasn't helped marginalised people I've seen more hatred towards my community.

If we don't get a grip on the housing crisis and other issues fertility rates which are dropping will drop further and an ageing population is expensive.

It is a trans issue. But it's also a sign of weak leader who is influenced to say things that he may or may not agree with.

Note that I have not said I am voting conservative.

I have said that I cannot vote for a party whose leader is weak on this. And in my circle I am not the only one.

If you don't earn enough to get on the housing ladder, that isn't the governments fault.

When will people start taking responsibility for their own actions and failures instead of blaming the government. It's almost as though once someone's found someone else to blame then they're comfortable wallowing in their own misery .... "It's not my fault, it's the government" 😂

Except private renting is unaffordable, we have a lack of social housing.

What do you want young people to do? We can't afford buying, renting or have access to social housing?

Manifesto?

Sunak can't even deliver his 5 pledges or his 'integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level'

Just ignore them - they're making goady comments to have an argument.

Thanks everyone now I’ve been told, I can’t spell, off my head, lead a charmed life, read the mail, must have private insurance, should apply to work for the tory party and I’m old to boot ..,…being on this site is a real eye opener!

ouchyoubiteybugger · 29/03/2024 22:24

I'll give you the same answer I gave a man at work who tried to tell me how much the tories do for my family

Don't shit in my hand and tell me it tastes like chocolate!

He said it didn't make sense, I said neither does telling a northern born, southern living, working class, average wage earning, menopausal woman to vote those fuckers !

Give me 1 reason why I should because I have 14 years worth of why I shouldn't

....err, work smarter and harder to earn more ?

Whitesapphire · 29/03/2024 22:26

All this trans nonsense has started under a Tory government so I have no idea why you would base your vote on this issue.

You do realise that's just not possible for everyone? What about single parents? People earning the minimum wage?

PinkBumblebee · 29/03/2024 22:29

DrunkenElephant · 29/03/2024 22:02

I bet she missed the part where people were dying alone because their families couldn’t visit while he was having (illegal) parties.

Good old Boris hey?

Actually my aunt was in intensive on a ventilator for 8 days before dying! We didn’t get to say goodbye either

Agree I have many friends who are carers earning that, if everyone just stopped doing low paid jobs our economy would grind to a halt
