Ds won’t sit at the table

Has one mouthful of food jumps down and just runs round. It’s doing my head in. He doesn’t seem to notice he’s hungry but must be … help.

Still struggling with this at 7 but stopped stressing around 5. Since starting school its become apparent that he may have adhd and now the not sitting for meals makes sense. He runs up and down between bites and what I saw as bad behaviour is actually how he regulates.

So I think it’s important to encourage them to sit but it’s also important to not turn it into a battle. Just keep trying things. I’ve had success playing games or colouring while we eat but it’s by no means something that works every time. Just keep trying things and dont stress.

I don't trust mine to stay at the table. Therefore DC is still strapped in to the booster seat.

We ended up taking DS' chair away and he stood at the table for years. He was just too fidgety to sit still and then so much focus was on getting him to sit still and there were so many negative messages around that before we even got onto the food. At one stage, he was allowed to run to the end of the kitchen and back after every five mouthfuls.
He grew out of it eventually but he only went back to having a chair when he was about 9.
He's now at secondary school and is fine in class (as he was at primary school in general) but I've noticed he generally does his homework standing up.
