Will this trend ever end, does anyone think?
I don’t judge anyone getting surgery etc, heaven knows I need help with my lines…but the same as everyone else look is pretty weird.
Have just seen some videos from the 80’s & 90’s and just the variation in the way actors etc looked is incredible, so natural and beautiful

Also hoping all this ends by the time my Dd is a teen. I was a teen in the 90’s, yes we wore make up and cared how we looked, but nothing like these days

I work in central London and both my office and the tube are full of young women with very obvious lip filler.

I find it quite grotesque, it looks distorted and uncomfortable. I appreciate this is only my opinion and in RL i keep that to myself.

I also find it incredibly sad that women are so unhappy with their appearance as to want to do this.

I hate lip filers with a passion. weirdly I have tiny lips so if anyone should have them..

KimberleyClark · 29/03/2024 09:32

I’m 62, and have never had anything done. I dye my hair and use serum and cream and that’s it. I’m happy with how my face looks. My weight is another mater though……

Why has it been suddenly decided every face suits plump lips and high cheek bones (achieved by filler)? They don’t plus it eradicates all individuality.

SkyBloo · 29/03/2024 09:28

You can. It’s as simple as accepting that it’s a natural part of life’s process and refusing to worship at the altar of youth.

This. My mother is 70, she has never had:

  • botox
  • fillers
  • any cosmetic procedure of any kind

She eats healthily and exercises, has pretty consistently been a size 12/14 and she looks lovely, lines and all.

My mother in law is very slim and i think it has aged her a bit more around the face but she also looks fabulous.

I'm 38, i don't look the way I did at 25 and that's ok! I'm a mother and it shows in my body and probably my face. I don't look like a model but I'm happy in my own skin.

I’m not saying no older women look good! They do and can. Just that I’m yet to see an older woman who looks better than when she was young and line free etc.

Why does the standard have to be " better"
I'm late 50s and fine as I am thanks
Of course a younger woman will look lovely, youth, oestrogen etc
Who has decided older women need to compete with that?
Seriously fucked up

Bluevelvetsofa · 29/03/2024 09:38

I think people get carried away with it and have more and more procedures. The shiny look gives it away every time, aside from the artificial look it produces. I watched a really good series on TV recently, but found it difficult to suspend disbelief at the main character, because her face couldn’t show the expression and emotion she was supposed to be portraying. The acting was fine and she’s a beautiful woman, but the frozen expression is off putting.

I’ve seen some really badly applied false lashes too. I expect people thought the same when we applied them in years past, but they certainly weren’t the woolly caterpillar type that’s now in vogue.

puppylovely · 29/03/2024 09:39

I was looking at the cover of a magazine last week and thinking this exact thought. The woman on the front was so incredibly generic looking. She could have been anyone, Megan fox, Kim khardashian, soap star, 20 something you'd see on a night out. So boring.

LordPercyPercy · 29/03/2024 09:40

@biglipsdontcare Natural big lips look beautiful. The fillers fail to emulate that though, they look odd and distort lip function, for instance pushing forward the mucosa which then be one uncomfortably dry.

Personally I think Jamie Lee Curtis looks just as good now as she did when she was young. Her face is a lot more interesting now.

Watching MAFS UK, last year and two of the women with unnaturally looking plumped up lips, were constantly rubbing their tongue along their upper teeth! It was annoying to watch!

But do you look better than you were young? I’m talking about comparison with your younger self and women should be allowed to botox if they wish.

I’m not saying you have to compete and shouldn’t. I felt terribly sorry for Andrea on married at first sight Australia when her 62 year old husband ranked her below 20 somethings in attractiveness! Completely unnecessary for her to be compared.

I was just about to post this about the lips... I think a more natural look is definitely becoming more common!
I don't have Botox but I do love the smooth Botox forehead look!

I just have a fringe 😂

Well of course not. I am 53 and don’t look younger or ‘better’ than my gorgeous 19y old. But I don’t want to either. I had my time and it’s all as it should be.

It's none of your business what other people choose to do or not do to their faces. It doesn't affect you - nobody is forcing you to have it done.

Caterguin · 29/03/2024 09:52

I could have all the botox, but I still wouldn't look young. I'd need a full face pull up, but then I think I'd just look stretched. And my hands and knees would still look old. I do wonder what people like Kylie Minogue, Amanda holden look like on a bank holiday morning.

I looked my best in my late 30s. My face thinned out a bit and I got cheekbones. I look ok in my 20s, but better in 30s.

Now I'm just making the most of what I have, before menopause takes the rest, my eye bags become trenches and my nose gets even longer.

Nobody’s allowed an opinion then?

I don’t find her particularly attractive at either age so hard for me to say!

I do agree with this actually. As you get older, it's the turn of other people to be 25. Nobody can be eternally 25.

But if people want to get Botox that's their business 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dollenganger333 · 29/03/2024 09:55

@BIossomtoes saying you don't like it is one thing but saying it needs to be stopped is another.

Why on a BH morning? 🤣🤣

I’m at the menopausal age. Not only does the nose get longer but ears keep growing don’t they! Why does this happen? Can’t wait for my extra long lobes to reach my chin!

I am picking YABU because I agree with @EmilyTjP ... I am sick of this same thread coming up every week. Yes I think it's a shame these girls/women are doing this, (having fillers and botox and collagen and the like,) but I CBA to repeat myself over and over.

Edited

Do you feel the same about MIL threads or parking threads?

Crikeyalmighty · 29/03/2024 09:58

Maybe it's generational thing- I'm 62 and think they all look like they are in pantomime - not a good look

Juliansfunkyshoes · 29/03/2024 10:04

There’s a Tik Tokker whose lips are so big and bumpy they literally look like a baboons arse. They look painful!

That's the point though.
Why are you asking me if I look better?
Who has decided this is the standard
I look like me
Better doesn't come into it

Justwrong68 · 29/03/2024 10:06

I find it hard to look at someone with enhanced lips when I'm talking to them (often serving staff).
It seems body dysmorphia is no longer questioned/ looked at which is dangerous
