Botox, frozen faces and big lips

Will this trend ever end, does anyone think?
I don’t judge anyone getting surgery etc, heaven knows I need help with my lines…but the same as everyone else look is pretty weird.
Have just seen some videos from the 80’s & 90’s and just the variation in the way actors etc looked is incredible, so natural and beautiful

Also hoping all this ends by the time my Dd is a teen. I was a teen in the 90’s, yes we wore make up and cared how we looked, but nothing like these days

Everyone who gets botox/filler seems to say it's subtle and no one notices.

EVERYONE notices. But you're not going to call someone out when they're pretending to "never touch botox" as it's quite rude, particularly if someone's insecure with their looks.

IMO you look at celebs like the Jenners, Kardashian, models like Emily Ratakowski and in photos they look amazing with all that work done - then in videos/unedited they just look bizarre. People are trying to emulate them I think

I think most people on mumsnet think they can “always tell” but really they can tell when someone has got a ridiculous amount. A small bit it very unnoticeable to people you know let alone strangers

I think the opposite - I think most people who get tweakments think you “can’t tell” unless you have a ridiculous amount. However, in fact small amounts are obvious.

Personally I think surgery is better for being invisible, if done well, than Botox and fillers.

Exactly.

I have a colleague who thinks her lip filler is invisible. It’s very obvious and has really distorted her mouth.

Im not saying no older women look good! They do and can. Just that I’m yet to see an older woman who looks better than when she was young and line free etc.

I disagree. I think some women DO look better as they age. They might grow in confidence, and into their faces and features which perhaps they found less appealing when younger. I'm 58 and perfectly happy with the way I look. I think I look comparatively better than i did at 21 in many ways. i definitely look after myself better. I may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm content. And that's all the really matters to me.

I do struggle with the pressure my daughter's generation must be under to change their faces. Thankfully she doesnt seem interested. i hope it stays that way!

PutASpellOnYou · 29/03/2024 13:41

It doesn't appeal to me, but if others want to pretend they don't grow older it's up to them.
I'm 55 and more than happy with how l look, you need to feel good inside, no good butchering your face if you haven't addressed your inner self.

faffadoodledo · 29/03/2024 13:50

@PutASpellOnYou I agree. A race towards external youth isn't for me. I want to feel good and move well. I guess that's where I put my efforts. it's still no guarantee - illness and ill health can strike anyone at any time. But I'm doing all I can in that department.

Such a bitchy thread

It’s always the same. Most posters on mumsnet pretend to be feminists when really they’re anti-men AND anti-women.
If they are as happy in themselves as they say they are, they wouldn’t feel the need to put down other women so frequently.

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 29/03/2024 13:53

@honeylulu I suspect some people are going to cheaper places, where the staff are perhaps not medically qualified or trained to the same standard as where you had your treatment.

Some folk are being a bit rude, however expressing that you don't like a particular look isn't necessarily being bitchy or judgemental. It just means you don't like it, it doesn't mean you think any less (or more) of the person!

Noselikeabluetit · 29/03/2024 13:58

It’s not anti women to not like the look of a frozen face. I hate it on me. This is a public forum, it’s more anti women to say we can’t have our own opinions.

I also see it everywhere in cities. It's deeply unattractive and looks very painful. Such a shame these young girls do this to themselves.

As someone who has Botox and fillers I can assure you it’s not painful whatsoever.

We don’t need or care for your unsolicited comments.

FlissyPaps · 29/03/2024 14:15

Katemax82 · 29/03/2024 00:32

I'm well aware of that look. I instantly recoil in horror when I see it in the flesh

Sounds like you need some therapy if you’re recoiling in horror at other people’s appearances.

It’s not an unsolicited comment though is it, it’s not about you. It’s an opinion on a public forum.

BobbyBiscuits · 28/03/2024 22:45

I've only ever seen a few people in real life who look this way. I don't know anyone personally who's into this. I don't find it appealing but each to their own.

I live in the Essex borders, come out our way sometimes and gasp!

MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast · 29/03/2024 15:08

Totally agree OP. A lot of women just look the same now - varying levels of Kardashian.

Have you watched price of perfection on channel 4? (or itv??) I find it absolutely baffling. People getting filler like it's as normal as a hairwash.

BobbyBiscuits · 29/03/2024 15:11

@TotteringonGently haha. I honestly think it looks so painful, swollen lips and shiny frozen faces. I guess I'd get used to it but I'm glad I live in a very in-surgery ish area.

CammyChameleon · 29/03/2024 15:15

I wonder what having a mum with an obviously fake face does to a daughter's self-esteem.

If they get upset after being teased over their appearance, do they get told "you're beautiful how you are" by their mum (with no hint of irony) or do they get promised a boob/nose job and fillers once they're old enough?

Bizarre.

This is what bothers me most. Our girls need to grow up seeing women who are inwardly and outwardly at peace with themselves. I realise this is a pipe dream in today's climate. But it would be nice to try.

HairyToity · 29/03/2024 12:47

Yanbu. I can't watch anything with Michelle Keegan in, as I find her so icky looking. Much prefer the natural look.

She also springs to my mind too as a prime example of this look. She is naturally beautiful and now looks unnatural (imo).

CottonbudQueen · 29/03/2024 17:15

Agree OP. Why would anybody want to look like a blow up doll. Doesn't it just reinforce misogyny and that women are only good for one thing. 😐

She was such a natural beauty when she was in Corrie back in the day, sad that she didn't feel beautiful enough.

Not really. My mum was dead against me getting Botox until I pointed out I had already had it done and she hadn't noticed...

whirlingdevonish · 29/03/2024 17:20

@MurderousCheekbones I'm not sure I'd tell my daughter I thought she'd had work done. Knowing she'd probably had it done bc she was feeling insecure. No, I'd leave it.
