Accidental crime...

ChinChinDarlings · 27/03/2024 21:30

NC, because I have become an inadvertent criminal.

This sounds unlikely but it true and I would like some advice and insight.

I was out today with a friend, lunch, galleries, bit of shopping. Tapping away merrily with my card.

My husband met me at the station to pick me up and I said I needed to go to the supermarket to get something and he asked what I'd been paying with all day because he had my card in his pocket.

We'd been away at the weekend and he'd been using my card because that was the card we had on us, I have a premium banking product and my card is very distinctive. I'd checked that I had my card in my holder before I went out today because I knew We'd both been using it at the weekend. Saw it was in my holder and have been tapping away all day.

The card I had in my holder and have been merrily using all day, is not my card. It belongs to a man I've never heard of. The only solution I can see is that I picked his identical card up that he left on a table and I assumed it was my card.

I have been spending a stranger's money all day. Shall I just phone the bank? Won't I look like a criminal?

TL;DR. I have accidentally spent some blokes money all day. I don't know what to do!

I’m intrigued by this ‘Premium Banking Product’. Has it been mentioned what it is yet? Amex centuriun by any chance? 🤔

ChinChinDarlings. I have two questions;

WHAT were you on last night, because I would dearly love to get my hands on some!

Are you REALLY as awful as you made yourself sound?

Hope you've managed to get some sleep now, I admire the stamina for keeping on for that long!

It seems if you google OP's MN name off MN most people are thinking it was a bit of a joke (I think so too), half term obvs come early.

Who knows if she really is as unpleasant as she is here IRL or whether this was just a Hyacinth Bouquet type put on character?

Betterbuckleupbarbara · 28/03/2024 15:50

@TheNinjaWife I believe OP has a premiere bank account which is a little different to Centurion but who knows.

OP, come back we have questions!!

@Ramalangadingdong the £200 went up to £300 later.

Yeh, but tbf she did say £200-ish. When you’re wealthy that is loose change I guess.

I don't think I've ever seen a long thread where such a high percentage of the posts were from the OP. Five pages of OP posts in the time it took for the thread to get to 20 pages. Amazing stamina.

yeah - I got bored going through them all

Yes, come back! We love you really (although we have a very strange (bitchy-MN) way of showing it.

I was intrigued that the card is black. When a card is black you know it’s important.

Not necessarily for the right reason. (Changes the storyline midway through!)

QOD · 28/03/2024 18:35

@ChinChinDarlings
why the contradiction when you said bank details not on the card and then you had them on the card …

Yah rally 😂

I was in a bad mood last night anyway and not up to tales of identifiable cards, gold plated or whatever.

OP stated they had bank details so it was a debit card. This rules out the Cent. My money is on HSBC Premier or Barclays Premier for entry level which I suspect OP has due to how they’ve written about this, or it’s a fantasy. Especially as neither are uncommon. Unless we’re actually talking Coutts, Weatherbys etc.?

She initially said the bank details weren't on it, so mangled her story a little!

Quiet and also the bank opens at 8am. If this is legit, I think it’s HSBC Premier which isn’t that uncommon. Poor OP, unable to keep a straight story and is getting rumbled.

Your morals are gutter level but your confidence is sky high

Posters like you are what's wrong with MN. You don't bother to read, or understand, what the OP has been saying from her initial post but denigrate her character because she's been having a bit of fun.

This is the essence of what the OP has been saying all day:

She used the card for several transactions before noticing it wasn't her own. (She could only use it because the card's owner had not noticed it was missing. Otherwise, it would have been cancelled).

She said, she'll call the bank in the morning and refund the money.

That's it. The rest is typical AIBU frothing at its best. Including being insulted for having a wicked sense of humour.

Errr. What the OP actually said was

She used the card unknowingly, realised the mistake when she got home, recognised the bank as her own account holder & decided that she would wait to sort it out as it was "too much hassle" & that "you cant make instant transfers" + shes "not overly concerned about it as it was a accident she cant be blamed for" & that "the actual owner should have known/cancelled the card if they were worried about losing it" & presumably based on the piss poor history of dealing with theft & bank fraud - "the police won't be interested anyway" regardless of wether she comes clean....

Honestly. cheeky fucker would have been equally acceptable to say about the OP

Anybody who's ever lost something knows the first port of call is to wait for it to turn up even if theyre searching their house/car/clothes every few minutes & the stress & bullshittery that goes into cancelling a card regardless of whether it's for work/banking/ID is a pain in the arse only compounded by finding it days or weeks later
So wouldnt be Anybody's first thought unless they've been robbed before.

All she had to do was call >HER OWN BANK< Tell them what had happen to another one of their customers & offer to fix it up now or tomorrow & the matter would have been sorted in minutes!
