Accidental crime...

ChinChinDarlings · 27/03/2024 21:30

NC, because I have become an inadvertent criminal.

This sounds unlikely but it true and I would like some advice and insight.

I was out today with a friend, lunch, galleries, bit of shopping. Tapping away merrily with my card.

My husband met me at the station to pick me up and I said I needed to go to the supermarket to get something and he asked what I'd been paying with all day because he had my card in his pocket.

We'd been away at the weekend and he'd been using my card because that was the card we had on us, I have a premium banking product and my card is very distinctive. I'd checked that I had my card in my holder before I went out today because I knew We'd both been using it at the weekend. Saw it was in my holder and have been tapping away all day.

The card I had in my holder and have been merrily using all day, is not my card. It belongs to a man I've never heard of. The only solution I can see is that I picked his identical card up that he left on a table and I assumed it was my card.

I have been spending a stranger's money all day. Shall I just phone the bank? Won't I look like a criminal?

TL;DR. I have accidentally spent some blokes money all day. I don't know what to do!

OP you have handled the vipers BEAUTIFULLY.

Chefs kiss to you. Bravo!

Ffs! Some people are so very easily entertained.

Insidelaurashead · 28/03/2024 11:56

I used to log fraud claims for a credit card company. millions of customers so could've seen this scenario happening, accidentally using someone else's card. I wouldn't have known what to do with the OP calling to say hey, weird story, this happened, can I pay please, but we would've all been impressed at her being a decent person and just fixing the mistake like she did

I don’t think we need to be giving the OP any medals here. I’d hope that most people would fix this sort of mistake as soon as they realise it. The OP has been really reluctant to resolve this - if it’s even real. My money is on it being a made-up story by a bored and sad little person sat somewhere with nothing better to do.

The fact they weren't open was a massive inhibitor.

I have 24 hour service on premium banking. If you called up the bank, presuming it is the same bank as you indicate, you'd get through. even if it were 3am.

Betterbuckleupbarbara · 28/03/2024 12:14

OP is mysteriously quiet so I assume her bag has been well and truly emptied after last night and this morning, and she fast asleep somewhere.

Once more.

For those at the back.

I have a card that not many people have. It's a premium banking product. I made no claims other than that. I can only tell you that I don't pay much attention to people's cards. I obviously picked up a bloke's card assuming it was mine.

You know sometimes you get your children confused? It was a bit like that. But money was involved.

My bank didn't open until 8am.

I have transferred all spent funds to the undoubtedly very confused man who is wondering a) why his cards doesn't work any more.

And b) when he investigates; there's a transaction from a woman he's never met entitled, 'sorry'.

Retrospectively, I hope it causes him no grief...

Glad that has all worked out well and I like that you chose the ref "Sorry"

All's Well that Ends Well as they used to say

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 28/03/2024 12:20

Wow, what an attention-seeking Drama Lllama you are. Well you got your wish.

Zone2NorthLondon · 28/03/2024 12:45

How gauche.

Rhoticity · 28/03/2024 12:53

Christ, too many comments, anyone got any idea on what the "It's a premium banking card" is?

MorningSunshineSparkles · 28/03/2024 12:56

I think you’ve had such a rough time here because so many of us know or can imagine how gut wrenching it is to suddenly lose the last of the money we have had to take care of our bills. To see someone be so blasé with another persons money is a bit of a kick in the teeth when the vast majority are struggling to put food on the table. Had you posted this on a forum full of the wealthy you’d probably have got a much different response. But as it is you’ve posted it on a forum full of people struggling with the COL crisis and completely missed the mark with understanding how the majority of people feel about money and finances. Perhaps an education in humbleness would serve you better than your finances.

Betterbuckleupbarbara · 28/03/2024 12:57

@Rhoticity I’m going with one of the free upgrades at a high street bank as she mentioned product. Dime a dozen really.

It's a bank account for people who think paying for banking services makes them more important than other people.

Zone2NorthLondon · 28/03/2024 13:09

I actually thought the thread was clearly fake, but humorous
it did elicit some very indignant responses from posters
i mean op said Feds, and waiting until bank call centre opens…come the fuck on…wakey wakey
finally premium banking

Betterbuckleupbarbara · 28/03/2024 13:11

@Zone2NorthLondon I see they do actually charge, my bad, that on top of the outsourced concierge travel service.

Who pays attention I suppose.

Fabricwitch · 28/03/2024 13:12

What premo bank card doesn't come with 24 hour customer service?

pizzaHeart · 28/03/2024 13:12

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/03/2024 11:31

@pizzaHeart - @ChinChinDarlings contacted the bank before 8.20 this morning, transferred the money to the account holder and sorted the whole thing out.

If you go to settings (click on the v next to where it says Talk, at the top of the thread) you can choose to highlight all the OP's posts in any thread by changing their background colour - this makes it much easier to spot any updates.

Thank you I haven’t realised that she contacted bank , I thought she just transferred money, I was curious about bank response.

kindlyensure · 28/03/2024 13:15

OP is getting flack because she originally asked for "some advice and insight". And finished up with "I don't know what to do".

Posters who responded to this initial request - and were actually quite reasonable and good natured in their replies - quickly realised that actually, she didn't want any insight - and knew exactly what she was going to do. The vibe of which transpired to be:
"what am I like and I am lols (and vair rich) and you lot are all like so basic, hundy p."

So yes, a v classic wind 'em up and keep refreshing through the night for the rofls .

Zone2NorthLondon · 28/03/2024 13:17

@ChinChinDarlings must have good stimulants to have been posting all night. it actually was quite funny.

Betterbuckleupbarbara · 28/03/2024 13:18

@Rhoticity some people get excited about concierge services, which you don’t actually need a bank account for but they are standard with some.

Stravaig · 28/03/2024 13:19

Tl;dr: 'premium banking product' = colossal twattery
