Is it seen to BU to go to the toilet at work?

Posting here for traffic. In the office this morning, there were 2 members of my team having a moan. Essentially, someone had gone to the toilet and had sprayed some of the provided air freshener. Staff member moans that the staff member in question should have waited until they got home before they "stink out the work toilets".

Staff members in question are mid 20s. It started a stupid debate in the office and basically, the older generation see no issue with going to the toilets at work. Younger generation claim they would be mortified and state they would not poop at work!

Is it a generational thing then? I'm of the mindset, if you have to go, you have to go!

YABU - Get a grip - poop away
YANBU - Gross! Hold it in until you get home!

@ForsythiaPlease I have this one at home

There is another brand called V.I.Poo.

LunaMay · 25/03/2024 16:11

I've found it's the opposite at my workplace, the younger generations love getting paid to pooh!
We have a disabled toilet which is kind of the designated toilet for that... sounds bad but its not used for anything else but storage currently.

Spraying air freshener 🤮

maddiemookins16mum · 25/03/2024 16:13

I’ve been working over 40 years, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had anything other than a pee at work. Those stall toilets aren’t the most private. I’ve been known to walk the 20 mins home at lunchtime if really needed.

Jessieshome · 25/03/2024 16:14

I had a friend who used to say, why wait to poo at home when you get paid to do it at work!

awitchoftroubleinelectricblue · 25/03/2024 16:14

I don't hold it in and go when I need to but my body seems to have trained itself to wait until I get home. I don't feel anything at all until I walk in the door and suddenly I'm busting for a poo.

This is a woman thing……both the judging of those who dare to poo, and the immature, squealing “oh I couldn’t possibly, what will people think” nonsense. It’s pathetic. Grow the fuck up.

No man would even give this headspace. Men don’t give a shit about shits.

As a man, I endorse this statement.

And also :

"Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That's why I poop, on company time!"

Ivee · 25/03/2024 16:15

They sound extremely ignorant. Some people poo once a day in the morning and think that everyone else is just like them. Some people poo 5-6 times a day because they are different people.

My DD has IBS and if anyone tried to stop her accessing the toilet I would have a great deal to say to them about it.

FamBae · 25/03/2024 16:15

@NC03 as I am shortly* *expecting some long term house guests, and with only one bathroom I've just placed an order for Poo-Pourri, thank you 😁

Deathraystare · 25/03/2024 16:15

I rarely need to go poo at work and try not to because the loos get blocked so many times (not me Govnor! Someone makes a nest of toilet paper and flushes great wodges of it down the pan!). I normally go in public lavs/coffee shops on the way to work. Going to loo at work is an issue because I am on reception and in theory we should call a porter to 'relieve' us. Of course they are too busy or wold come too late. I have a problem with my bladder so I just go when I can.

Roastiesarethebestbit · 25/03/2024 16:17

I can’t poo at work. I struggle to poo on holiday! My body just likes my own loo. Still I wouldn’t dream
of telling people that they can’t poo at work. Though it is grim when they leave skid marks. I once worked where there was one loo for the team of 10, men and women. One bloke would come straight in to work in the morning and do the smelliest shit that stank out the loo and the break room next to it. And left skid marks!! He could easily have gone and found a more private loo elsewhere in the building. I found that gross.

2023NEWMUM2023 · 25/03/2024 16:18

What have I just read! Lol people acting like their shit doesn't stink! Of course if you need to go to the toilet just go, it isn't healthy to hold it in and can cause health problems

leatherchaps · 25/03/2024 16:18

I love a good system dump at work 👍

Wetblanket78 · 25/03/2024 16:18

If I have to go I go. Sometimes I don't realise I need a number 2 until I'm sitting on the toilet. You can't stop it coming it just comes. It's unhealthy to hold on. I know some smell worse than others. That VIPOO spray is good. I always have it in the toilet. My son stinks the house out if we don't use the spray. It works if you spray it after as well as before.

KanyeJohnWestTuna · 25/03/2024 16:19

I’ve got IBS which means I poo several times a day. Luckily I don’t work anymore so I don’t have any Co-workers to offend for deigning to shit in the work toilet.

At a former place of employment one poor lad basically got the sack over this. As a baby he had to have an operation to cut out some of his bowel, which meant he had to poo several times a day and the poos were smelly and ponged the gents a bit. His manager took offence at this and basically bullied him out of a job. I could so easily have been bullied out of a job for the same reason at the same time.

LakeTiticaca · 25/03/2024 16:19

As a teenager I did. I had a phobia about taking a dump in public toilets. It's hard work trying to squeeze your bums cheeks together for hours, and not at all healthy. Nowadays I don't care, but rather go when nobody else is around

Fixerupper77 · 25/03/2024 16:20

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, thats why I poop on company time....

Your colleagues are fucking IDIOTS.

Gettingonmygoat · 25/03/2024 16:20

They are young and foolish, one day they will grow up.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 25/03/2024 16:20

I was at a work conference once when my boss came back from the toilet and complained hugely about someone who'd been for a poo and made a smell, she thought they should have done it before they arrived

I have never in my life been able to poo when I didn't need to or hold on for more than 20 minutes or so. Surely people can't just poo on demand?

Anyway I've never forgotten what that boss said and it made me self conscious about pooing at work for ages after. Always scout out the quietest/furthest away loo.

That's horrendous. Poor lad
The manger should have been sacked!

MarkWithaC · 25/03/2024 16:22

This is one of the many things that makes me grateful for working alone at home!

But when I worked in an office I was a frequent pooer. I would have a coffee and some breakfast when I got to work, and my very efficient and clockwork-like bowels meant I always had to go after that.
It was OK until we got new loos, in the individual all-in-one style, a row of four that faced onto a (narrow) corridor. Obviously people needing one would wait in the corridor, and you couldn't avoid opening the door and releasing a miasma. And of course there was no chance of ambiguity about whodunnit like there can be in a room with cubicles.
I'd sometimes go looking for a further-away one. Grin

AccountantMum · 25/03/2024 16:22

I don't think you could pay me enough to not use the toilet when I need to go!

Jovacknockowitch · 25/03/2024 16:22

Most "air fresheners" just add an acrid chemical smell to the smell of shit.

Toilets are for use as toilets.

Crunchymum · 25/03/2024 16:23

Let's all share shitting at work tales with a brand new poster who has zero history!

Hard pass from me.

Lilydolly1981 · 25/03/2024 16:23

If you need to go, you need to go. Not everybody is able to hold it in.

It's more about the way in which the toilet is left. Where I work, we've just bought one of those funny 'toilet rules' signs. Something to keep it lighthearted, but to remind a certain few not to leave it like a bomb site.

Air freshening spray and a reed diffuser is also in there.....😊

I get it when people don't want to go at work though. The kids won't go at school, as they hate the toilets.
