Is it seen to BU to go to the toilet at work?

Posting here for traffic. In the office this morning, there were 2 members of my team having a moan. Essentially, someone had gone to the toilet and had sprayed some of the provided air freshener. Staff member moans that the staff member in question should have waited until they got home before they "stink out the work toilets".

Staff members in question are mid 20s. It started a stupid debate in the office and basically, the older generation see no issue with going to the toilets at work. Younger generation claim they would be mortified and state they would not poop at work!

Is it a generational thing then? I'm of the mindset, if you have to go, you have to go!

YABU - Get a grip - poop away
YANBU - Gross! Hold it in until you get home!

Somebody at my work does massive dumps that regularly block the toilet. Whoever goes next risks whatever they’ve done floating up on a sea of water. Very embarrassing if you’ve wiped blood and then have to call out the janitors.

I’ve now realised that if I see greasy pop stains on the toilet, I flush to check it’s clear before I go.

I think if you’re going to take a huge poo, you should at least make sure the loo is clean and unblocked at the end of it. Personally, I think the greasy loo clogger should have the decency to walk to the slightly out of the way loo, and not gunk up the one just by our classrooms.

Rant over, but it felt good to vent!

YABU What do they think a toilet is for??

I avoid it if possible because someone commenting on smell when I was a teenager and used a public toilet (she said that's disgusting and pulled a face at me) has given me a lifelong issue with it
We have poo pourri sprays at work in all the toilets which work really well without being as "gas you out" as air freshener

Poo Pourri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Howling !!!! fabulous!!!!😂

Last time I went at the office, I gave fair warning to "give the toilet a miss for a week or two".

shearwater2 · 25/03/2024 15:41

Holding it in causes problems. TABVU.

I used to work in an office of poo-shamers and it was awful.

idontlikealdi · 25/03/2024 15:41

I have IBS, I shit when i can can and need to.

CrikeyMajikey · 25/03/2024 15:42

It’s because kids don’t poop at school. Apparently the toilets are just too grim.

B1anche · 25/03/2024 15:48

She probably made a fuss so that people didn't think it was her who'd stunk the loo out. I hate going in after someone who has emptied their bowels in case the next person who comes in thinks it was me. I don't poo at work but appreciate that those with bowel disorders do.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2024 15:52

I'd say it's massively unreasonable of anyone to try to police other peoples bowels. Confused

or bum tish!

Twokittycats · 25/03/2024 15:55

I like going to the toilet at work, I feel like I’m being paid to poop 😂

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/03/2024 16:02

It's bad for your bowels to hold it in all day. HTH.

MyPurpleHeart · 25/03/2024 16:03

I get about ten minutes warning before I need a poo, and that's on a good day. I always like pooping at work, I'm getting paid for it! I poo more at work than I do at home

Elephantswillnever · 25/03/2024 16:06

I think the polite thing is to go to the least used loo for a poo. Wee in any loo. I’d go at work though.

TennisLady · 25/03/2024 16:06

I've worked in offices for years and always been amazed at people who are disgusted that people use the toilet for a poo. Even people making childish comments about how long someone had been in toilet so must have been doing that etc.
I wonder how some people come to think that using a toilet as it's given function as being disgusting!

FamBae · 25/03/2024 16:06

The office debate as old as time, particularly during quiet periods, just insidious bullying in my opinion.

5128gap · 25/03/2024 16:08

I'm 54 and I have never gone at work and can't imagine short of illness I ever would, so its definitely not generational. The women's toilet almost never smells in our office, but I'm told that the cubicles are well used and the smell is unbearable in the men's.

SiriAlexa · 25/03/2024 16:08

When you need to go then just get on with it! But no excuses for leaving a messy loo behind.

CharlotteBog · 25/03/2024 16:09

Staff member moans that the staff member in question should have waited until they got home before they "stink out the work toilets".

This comment is far worse than any actual bad smell. How unprofessional.

IClaudine · 25/03/2024 16:09

Interesting first post OP.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 25/03/2024 16:10

It is not remotely unreasonable to use the toilet at work. That's what they're for.

It is only unreasonable not to tidy up after yourself, if necessary.

Deebee90 · 25/03/2024 16:11

I have bowel disease so when I need to go I have to go. We’re all adults and we all poo. It doesn’t smell like roses and we have to live with it . Get over it.

PostItInABook · 25/03/2024 16:11

This is a woman thing……both the judging of those who dare to poo, and the immature, squealing “oh I couldn’t possibly, what will people think” nonsense. It’s pathetic. Grow the fuck up.

No man would even give this headspace. Men don’t give a shit about shits.
